at The ICENTER, Salem, New Hampshire

Stacked card headlined by MMA Veterans

where stardom hangs close for some, retirement looms for others

Salem, NH – February 8th – Mixed Martial Arts action returns to the ICENTER in Salem, New Hampshire for the first time in over 2 years with a card packed with excitement, from top to bottom. With co-Main Events in place that feature seasoned and skilled veterans of the sport, fans will have the rare opportunity to see some well-known stars of MMA compete close to home.

The Main Event pits 15-time UFC veteran Marcus “The Irish Hand Grenade” Davis versus 2-time Bellator fighter Matt Sung Lee. With a combined 54 bouts on the two warriors’ resumes, both have indicated that this very well could be the final fight of their respective careers. Lee is coming off of an impressive “Fight of the Night” performance in November over well-respected journeyman Tiawan Howard. Lee has a notable war on his resume in a title bout with former Bellator champion Eddie Alverez in a fight that went the distance, and also handed local rising star Brett Oteri his first career loss. Davis, meanwhile, rattled off 3 wins in a row after being released from the UFC last year including a victory over Pete Spratt, before dropping a close split decision to The Ultimate Fighter 13 cast member Chuck O’Neil in October. Both New England fighters, Lee and Davis have long indicated a desire to fight each other and this bout shapes up to be a war that could punctuate a career.

The Co-Main Event features Dan "The Upgrade" Lauzon taking on Don Carlo Clauss. A member of New York’s Team BombSquad, Clauss is a veteran of 14 fights including a 2011 appearance on the undercard of ‘Strikeforce: Fedor vs Silva’. He holds a win over M1 fighter Joshua Thorpe and was the last person to hand 12-2 New England prospect Calvin Kattar a defeat. Don is coming off of a dominate 2nd round TKO win over John Ortoloni in January that left some local fans with an ill taste in their mouth after a perceive taunting celebration over the fallen fighter. Stepping up for the fans clamoring to see revenge for Ortoloni, the youngest UFC fighter in history Dan Lauzon looks to use Clauss as a brick in his road back to the big time. At just 23 years old, the 20 fight veteran Lauzon has rattled off 4 wins in a row since his release from the UFC, including first round stoppages in his last 3 bout. With a record of 16-4 and only allowing one fight to make it to the judges, Lauzon could very well be returning to the big stage with a decisive victory.

The Co-Featured Local fight of the night has quickly become one of the most anticipate bouts in the region. (6-2) Cody Lightfoot will take on (6-3) Mike Stewart in a fight that is marked as a shot at redemption for Lightfoot. The New Hampshire native is coming off of a September loss to Bellator/TUF fighter Greg Rebello, in a bout that was stopped in the second round due to a cut suffered by Cody. That fight served up to be the biggest test of his young career and many at ringside felt that Lightfoot was dominating the match. Unable to secure a rematch, the 28 year old Lightfoot was forced to watch from the stands as Rebello was handed his ‘only 2nd loss’ in over 6 years, when he was submitted by Mike Stewart on February 3 of this year. Believing he had what it takes to claim that same win, Lightfoot immediately asked for a fight with the New York native Stewart, in an effort to prove who the better fighter is at 205 in the region. A tall task stand in front of him with Stewart, as the Team BombSquad fighter’s only losses in the last three years came at the hand of two undefeated fighters, including the UFC’s Chris Weidman. Mike has also not had a bout make it to the judges, with 4 submission and 2 (T)KO wins on his record.

The other Co-Featured Local fight of the night is a rematch with one local champion looking to erase another blemish on his resume. 12 fight veteran Pedro Gonzalez will clash with 16 fight vet Aguilano Brandao, in a rematch of their 2010 bout. That fight ended just over a minute in to the first round when a proclaimed error by Pedro landed him in an arm bar submission and a loss. After already avenging an early 2010 loss to Matt Smith, Gonzalez looks to prove the loss was a fluke. Brandao, who’s fought only once since the Gonzalez bout, has notable wins over Chris Grandmaison and 2x Bellator winner Josh LaBerge.

Also on the card local amateur Champion Joe Cloutier is set to make his professional debut. Fellow Team Doomsday fighter Mike Matrinko debuts against UFC veteran Jorge Rivera student Dan Bardellini. rising star Ben Peak will clash with the always exciting CageStrikers fighter Mike Materkowski. Many other bouts are still in the works.

Tickets are on sale with general admission tickets starting at $25 dollars. You can purchase tickets online at centuryfighting.eventbrite.com or at The ICENTER box office in Salem, New Hampshire. The event will be available for PPV viewing on GoFightLive.
