Cage Titans 7/26/2013 Teaser

Cage Titans returns this Friday, the 26th at Plymouth Memorial Hall. The Cage Titans card is filled with local talent which will be sure to make for an exciting night in Cage Titans fashion.  The seating in Plymouth Memorial is fantastic and there isn't a bad seat in the house.  The doors open at 6pm and the fights start at 7:05pm.  Tickets are still available here starting at just $45.  There are 3 pro fights and 3 title fights with a total of 18 fights if my math is correct.  Please note this show is Friday not a Saturday as Cage Titans are usually scheduled on.. The main event against Tateki Matsuda and Ruben Rey was unfortunately scrapped due to injury.  However Michael Polvere will be grappling Tateki during intermission!  There are many brothers featured on this fight and I have to believe it is the record for most brothers on one card which should make for a memorable evening.  Let me break down the card for you and as usual keep in mind this may not be the exact fight order.

125lb AM - Johnny Melo (0-0, Wai Kru) vs Jessie Pires (0-3, Team BKJA)

First fight of the evening is between Johnny Melo and Jessie Pires at 125lbs.  Johnny is from Wai Kru and will be making his amateur debut.  Jessie is from BKJA and has an 0-3 record.  Don't let his record fool you, he is a tough fighter and is always ready to scrap.  One fight that he lost was to a decision and the other to were in the 3rd round so he can go the distance if needed.  Wai Kru is a great school and no doubt will have Johnny ready to fight so this should be a good one.

160lb AM - Derek Peterson (0-0, Team JKD) vs Kevin Schneider (0-0, SSSF)

Next up is Derek Peterson against Kevin Schneider at a catchweight of 160lbs.  Derek is from Team JKD and will be making his amateur debut.  Kevin is from SSSF and will also be making his amateur debut.  Not much insight I can give you on this one with two fresh fighters.

150lb AM - Charlie Clark (0-2, Independant) vs David Espino (0-1, Team Trifecta)

Then Titans has Charlie Clark against David Espino at a catchweight of 150lbs.  Charlie is an independent fighter with an 0-2 record.  He has two first round stoppages to strikes and is still hungry for his first taste of mma victory.  David is from Team Trifecta and has an 0-1 record.  He has a unanimous decision loss to Mark Cardarelli.  David is also looking for his first mma victory.  Both fighters know what they need to do and one of them will be leaving Friday night with their first mma victory of their careers.

125lb AM – Sheridan Decristoforo (0-0, TriForce) vs Nate Russell (0-0, FAA)

Sheridan Decristoforo will meet Nate Russell at 125lbs in the cage.  Sheridan is from TriForce and is the twin brother of Shane Decristoforo who is fight on the main card.  He will be making his amateur debut.  Nate is from Fighting Arts Academy and will also be making his amateur debut.  Both fighters are from two solid schools so expect them to be very well prepared for a battle.

Hvy AM – Floran Kacaku (0-1, Doomsday) vs Corey Silva (0-0, Lakeville MMA)

Next up is Floran Kacaku against Corey Silva for a heavyweight showdown.  Floran is from Doomsday MMA and has an 0-1 record.  He lost his first fight in the first round by rear naked choke against Anthony Pepdjonovic.  Corey is from Lakeville MMA and will be making his amateur debut.  I would expect these guys to be swinging right from the get go and looking for the knockout so don't blink folks.

140lb AM - Scott Decristoforo (0-0, TriForce) vs Jimmy MacDonald (0-0, FightZone)

Then Scott Decristoforo takes on Jimmy MacDonald at 140lbs.  Scott is the older brother of Sheridan and Shane and is from team Triforce.  He will be making his amateur debut.  Jimmy is from FightZone MMA and will also be making his amateur debut.  I love two fresh amateurs going at it because as a fan it is exciting due to the nature of the unexpected.  Let's see what these amateurs got.

155lb AM - Kyle Bochniak (2-1, Broadway JJ) vs Jason Helger (1-1, Gillett’s MMA)

Kyle Bochniak will face off in the cage against Jason Helger at 155lbs.  Kyle is from Broadway JJ and has a 2-1 record.  He has a decision and a ref stoppage to strikes victory in his career.  For his sole loss he lost a unanimous decision.  Jason is from Gillett's MMA and comes into this fight with a 1-1 record.  He has a decision victory and a split decision loss so far in his career.  This is an excellent match up and should make for a good fight.  I expect this one to go to a decision.

145lb AM - Max Barrett (1-1, MAXX Training) vs Ken Bailey (1-0, Florian MMA)

Next up is Max Barrett against Ken Bailey at 145lbs.  Max is the brother of Peter Barrett who is also fighting on this card and trains with Maxx Training.  He comes into this fight with a 1-1 record.  He lost a ref stoppage to strike for his first fight and then bounced back with a decision win back in January.  Ken is from Florian MMA and has a record of 1-0.  He won his first bout early in the first round by ref stoppage to strikes at a previous Cage Titans show against Charlie Clark.  This is going to be an exciting fight and I suspect it to be a good stand up fight.

135lb AM - Chris Suarez (1-2, Allaire) vs JP White (2-1, Lauzon)

Chris Suarez takes on JP White at 135lbs.  Chris is from Allaire MMA and comes into this fight with a 1-2 record.  He has a KO win and lost by decision and armbar.  He loves to take tough fights and this one is no exception.  JP is from Lauzon's MMa and has a 2-1 record.  He has a submission and ref stoppage to strikes for his victories.  His sole loss by decision to Ruben Rey back in 2010.  Not only that he has an awesome nickname Johnny Poo Bear.  I would love to hear the story behind that one.  This fight is going to be a grinder and this fight can really go anywhere.

185lb AM – Edwin Flores (1-0, Team Anubis) vs Shane Mulligan (0-0, CCFA)

Edwin Flores will face off against Shane Mulligan at 185lbs.  Edwin is from Team Anubis and comes into this fight with a 1-0 record.  Edwin wasn't able to answer the bell at GFL 12 in the second round for his only loss.  Shane is from CCFA and will be making his amateur debut.  Shane is a fresh just turned 18 year old and is ready for his first taste of mma victory.  He has done numerous amounts of grappling tournaments so the experience is there.  With Loco Lobo and Michael Mulligan in his corner, he can't go wrong.  This is going to be a good one.

170lb AM – Dan Phelps (2-0, TriForce) vs Richard Hunter (2-1, DCNU)

At 170lbs Dan Phelps takes on Richard Hunter.  Dan is from Triforce MMA and has a 2-0 record.  He has a submission win and a ref stoppage to strikes victory so far in his ammy career.  Richard is from DCNU and has a 2-1 record.  He won one fight for Premier FC due to ref stoppage to strikes and I wasn't able to find the other one.  His only loss came to newly turned pro Addison O'Neil which was a knockout.  Both fighters have fought some tough fighters in their career and this should be a good one.  I think it will turn out to be a good stand up battle.

170lb AM - James Manning (2-1, Team Xcel) vs Felix Gomez (1-1, Florian MMA)

James Manning will take on Felix Gomez at 170lbs for the last fight on the undercard.  James is from Team Xcel and has a 2-1 record.  He has a decision and a ref stoppage to strikes so far in his career.  His only loss came to Tommy Venticinque by decision.  Felix is from Florian MMA and has a 1-1 record.  He has won a decision and lost a decision so far in his career.  This is another close fight and I feel it will go to decision.  Now onto the main card!

125lb AM Title Fight Jesse Gutierrez (Connor's MMA 2-1) vs. Kenny Murphy (Link NH 4-0)

For the 125lb amateur title fight Jesse Gutierrez takes on Ken Murphy.  Jesse is from Connor's MMA and has a 2-1 record.  Jesse won with an omaplata over Jordan Smith at a previous CFX show.  Ken is from Team Link and has a perfect record of 4-0.  Kenny has the belt and has won 4 decisions.  This is going to be a ground battle and definitely could go all 5 rounds.

145lb AM Title Fight Ruso Khubechov (Connor's MMA 5-0)  vs. Peter Barrett (Maxx 3-2)

Next up is the 145lbs amateur Title fight between Ruso Khubechov and Peter Barrett.  Ruso is from Connor's MMA and has a 5-0 record.  He is tough as hell and has one any way possible in fights.  I have seen him knockout John Healey and win some decisions.  He doesn't seem to have any holes in his game.  Peter is from Maxx MMA and comes into this fight with a 3-2 record.  He has lost a decision and a submission so far in his career to very tough fighters.  He has won a decision and two ref stoppages to strikes.  This fight has all the ingredients to an awesome stand and bang fight.  Do not go to the bathroom and miss this fight.  This is definitely fight of the night potential!

Heavyweight AM Title Fight Ed Gillis (Doomsday MMA 2-1) vs. Mario Gonzalez (Team United 2-1)

Then for the heavyweight amateur title Ed Gillis takes on Mario Gonzalez.  Ed is from Doomsday MMA and has a 2-1 record.  He has a ko and a submission victory for his wins.  His only loss came to Javier Velasquez by decision at an AFO show.  Mario is from Team United and hasn't fought in a while but has always been active in the mma community.  He also comes into this fight with a 2-1 record.  He has two wins via ref stoppages to strikes and you will never guess who he lost to.  Yep a decision to Javier Velasquez.  This one will most likely be a bloody stand up battle.  Definitely a potential for fight of the night!

160lb Pro Keegan Hornstra (Kaos 0-7) vs. Chris Paolini (Mendes Martial Arts 0-2)

At a catch weight of 160lbs Keegan Hornstra takes on Chris Paolini.  Keegan trains with team Kaos and has an 0-7 record.  He is hungry for his first pro victory.  He lost most of his fights to submission and ref stoppages to strikes.  His opponent Chris is from Mendes Martial Arts and has an 0-2 record.  He lost by submission and by knockout so far in his pro career.  He is also looking for his first pro victory.  One thing is for certain.  One of these guys will get their first taste of pro victory this Friday.

175lb Pro Tim Silva (Rage MMA 1-1) Jesse Merrit (Anubis 0-1)

Next up is Tim Silva fighting Jesse Merrit at a 175lb pro fight.  Tim is from Rage MMA and has a 1-1 record.  He has won a decision and lost a decision.  He hasn't fought since 2009 so we will have to see if cage rust plays a factor in this fight.  Jesse is from Team Anubis and has an 0-1 record.  He has a decision loss to Shawn Baker.  Sounds to me like this fight will most likely result in a decision.

125lb Pro Shane Decristoforo (Triforce 0-0) vs. Remo Cardarelli (USMMA 0-0)

For the last fight of the evening is between two newly turned pro fighters.  At 125lbs Shane Decristoforo takes on Remo Cardarelli.  Shane is from Triforce and he has had many fights as an amateur.  He has lost to Remo by submission in rd 1 back in July of 2012.  Shane won his last amateur bout against Jessie Pires by submission.  He always comes ready to scrap.  Remo is from USMMA and is a finisher.  He has a submission, ref stoppage to strikes and a decision victory in his amateur career.  I am excited about this fight because I want to see how each fighter has progressed and should be exciting to see them use some elbows.  Shane will want to be avenging his previous loss to Remo and Remo will want to show that his submission victory over Shane was no fluke.
