CAGE TITANS 21 11/1/2014 TEASER

Cage Titans is back this Saturday to close out the year with a bang!  Polvere and company have put together once again a stellar card.  There is a whopping 18 fights total in which 3 of them are title fights.  When you get done eating your Halloween candy make sure you come on down to see what Cage Titans is all about.  Tickets are still available at their website here for just $45 to see spectacular fights.  Also Prime Athletics will be having a booth there with Bellator's Douglas Lima and Douglas Mima will be there taking photos and signing autographs.  There isn't a bad seat in the hall and the food/beer prices are very decent as well.  The doors will open at 6pm and the fights will start at approximately 7:05pm. Let me break down the card for you.  Keep in mind this most likely won't be the exact fight order.

170lb AM – Nick Kappes (0-0, Upstate BJJ) vs Sean Newell (1-0, Rivera Athletics)

At 170lbs Nick Kappes takes on Sean Newell for the first fight of the evening.  Nick will be making his amateur debut and trains with Upstate BJJ.  His opponent Sean trains out of Rivera Athletics and has a 1-0 record.  Sean fought at the last Cage Titans event and won against Myles Reid by ko/tko in Rd 1.  He would love nothing more than another quick finish in front of the Titan fans this weekend.  This will be a great fight to kick off the evening.

150lb AM – Joe Giannetti (1-0, SSSF) vs Angel Rodriguez (0-0, Boston Combat)

In the second fight Joe Giannetti challenges Angel Rodriguez at a catch weight of 150lbs.  Joe trains out of SSSF and has a 1-0 record.  He won by submission at the last Cage Titans against Derek Peterson in Rd 3.  His opponent Angel Rodriguez trains with Boston Combat and will be making his amateur debut.  Once again another close match up which means another action packed fight for the fans.

165lb AM – Chris Taylor (0-0, Victory Combat) vs Asi Somburu (1-4, Upstate BJJ)

At 165lbs Chris Taylor faces off against Asi Somburu.  Chris trains out of Victory Combat and will be making his amateur debut.  Victory Combat always gets their guys ready so you know Taylor will be up for anything.  His opponent Asi trains with Upstate BJJ and has a 1-4 record.  He lost the majority of his fights by ko/tko.  He won his sole win by submission against Drew Nolan at Cage Wars 24.  As you can see Asi has the 5 fight experience in this one so Taylor will have his work cut out for him.

195lb AM - Pat McCrohan (2-0, Gillett’s) vs Yorgan De Castro (2-0, Lauzon)

At a catch weight of 195lbs Pat McCrohan takes on Yorgan De Castro.  Pat trains with Gillett's MMA and has a 2-0 record.  He won both of this fights at Cage Titans by ko/tko in Round 2.  He looked to be very well rounded and confident in the cage.    Yorgan trains out of Lauzon MMA and also has a 2-0 record.  Yorgan has a ko/tko and a decision so far in his amateur career.  This will be both fighters toughest opponents to date and will be a big showdown.  The winner will most likely break the top 10 in their weight class so they know what is on the line.

125lb AM - Jessie Pires (1-5, Team BKJA) vs Rich Santiago (0-3, Rivera Athletics)

At 125lbs Jessie Pires challenges Rich Santiago.  Jessie trains with BKJA and has a 1-5 record.  He lost 3 by ko/tko, 1 by sub and 1 by decision.  In his last fight he recieved his first taste of victory as an amateur with an armbar win over Brendon Stephenson.  He will be looking to carry over the positive energy into this fight and bring home the W.  His opponent Rich trains out of Rivera Athletics and has an 0-3 record.  Rich lost 1 by decision and his last 2 by submission.  Now don't let the records here fool you, both of these fighters have fought some tough fighters their entire amateur career.  This fight will be fast paced and I see it being a good back and forth battle.

155lb AM - Matt Tullos (6-0, Connors MMA) vs Aslan Otciev (2-0 K Dojo)

Matt Tullos takes on Aslan Otciev at 155lbs.  Both fighters appear to be stepping up a weight class to fight each other.  Tullos is quite arguably the #1 145lber amateur in New England and has a 6-0 record.  He fights out of Connor's MMA and always seems to dominate no matter how tough the fight is.  In his last fight against Aaron Lacey he took Lacey down with ease and controlled the entire fight for the decision.  Aslan trains out of K Dojo and has a 2-0 record.  Aslan also usually dominates his opponents but this one is going to be his toughest to date.  I give the slight edge to Tullos as I see him taking this by decision.  I wouldn't rule Aslan out either as he is slick on the ground and could very well win this by submission.

125lb AM – Dave Baxter (1-1, USMMA) vs Mike Brown (3-2, Boston Combat)

In another 125lb battle Dave Baxter squares off against Mike Brown.  Baxter trains out of USMMA and has a 1-1 record.  He has one loss by submisison and won his last fight by ko/tko against Buun Tengamnuay.  He has the heart and the tenacity to never be ruled out of a fight.  This is his 3rd fight for Cage Titans and he plans on making it a memorable one for the fans.  His opponent Mike Brown trains with Boston Combat and has a 3-2 record.  He has won 2 fights by submission and one by split decision.  His only two losses came by submission against Norman Fox for both.  Well he isn't fighting Norman Fox this fight so it should be a good one.  Both of these fighters can scrap and this one will be an exciting one for the fans for sure.

145lb AM - Grant Mosley (2-1, Florian) vs Nico Byrd (2-0, Boston Combat)

At 145lbs Grant Mosley is facing off against Nico Byrd.  Mosley has a 2-1 record and fights out of Florian MMA.  I am going to go out on a limb here and let you all know that Grant will have THE best tattoos of the night.  He won his first fight against Manny Bermudez by submission and then lost a dec to Dan Dubuque.  In his last fight he fought for WNXFA and won an unanimous decision against McLynne Cadiente.  He controlled the fight the entire time and looked very comfortable on the ground.  His opponent is Nico Byrd and has a 2-0 record.  He trains out of Boston Combat and unfortunately I wasn't able to find any information on him.  I predict this fight will be a ground battle.

155lb AM - Stephen Langlais (1-7, Team BKJA) vs Devin Carrier (0-1, Lauzon)

At 155lbs Stephen Langlais takes on Devin Carrier.  Langlais has a 1-6 record and fights out of Team BKJA.  He lost 6 of his 7 fights by decision.  He won his first fight against Keenan Raymond.  Langlais has fought beasts his entire amateur career.  Unfortunately it hasn't helped his record but he is gaining a vast amount of experience.  He just needs to find a way to turn it around with some wins.  His opponent is Devin Carrier and fights out of Lauzon MMA.  He comes into this fight with an 0-1 record with one decision loss to Stephanos Kampouris.  I see this fight coming down to a decision.

130b AM – Phil Sargente (1-0, USMMA) vs Jake Kasperowski (1-1, Redline)

Phil Sargente will be challenging Jake Kasperowski at a catch weight of 130 lbs.  Phil trains with USMMA and has a 1-0 record.  He won his first fight by ko/tko in Rd 1 at a previous AFO show back in 2011.  His opponent Jake fights out of Redline and has a 1-1-1 record.  He lost one by decision and won one by decision.  In his last fight it resulted in a Draw.  No one wants to fight to a draw and Jake will not make that mistake again.

140lb AM – Andres Rodriguez (1-0, Sityodtong) vs Robbie Fraser (0-0, SSSF)

For the last fight on the undercard Andres Rodriguez take son Robbie Fraser.  Andres trains out of Sityodtong and has a 1-0 record.  Andres fought a a previous Cage Titans and won by ko/tko in Rd 2 against Chris Suarez.  He looked very comfortable in the cage and ready for the battle to go anywhere.  Robbie trains out of SSSF and will be making his amateur debut.  Two fighters from solid schools in the area going head to head.  This will be a good one for sure.

135 AM Title Fight Kris Moutinho (Rivera Athletics 4-1) vs. Manny Bermudez (SSSF 5-1)

In the first fight on the main card Kris Moutinho moves up a weight class to challenge Manny Bermudez for the 135lb amateur title.  Yes you read that right.  One belt is not enough for Kris, he wants two!  Kris trains out of Rivera Athletics and comes into this fight with a 4-1 record.  Kris has 2 wins by submission, 1 decision and one by ko/tko.  His only loss was a decision to Marquis Brewster.  Bermudez trains out of SSSF and is sitting pretty with a 5-1 record.  He has all 5 wins by submission and would love to have a 6th over Kris.  His only loss came by submission to who??  I already told you in a previous fight, pay attention!  These fighters will not let this go to a decision so don't blink on this one and thank you to both fighters for accepting such an awesome fight for the fans.  Much Respect to both of you.

135 PRO Scott Gorgone ( 0-0 Mass BJJ) vs. Carlos Hernandez (Sityodtong 1-1)

Then at 135lbs Scott Gorgone will make his pro debut against Carlos Hernandez.  Gorgone trains out of Mass BJJ with the likes of Peggy Morgan and Jimmy Quinlan.  He had a great amateur career with a 4-0 record with 3 out of his 4 wins by submission.  He is certainly ready to make his pro debut after the great amateur career he had.  Hernandez trains out of Sityodtong and has a 1-1 record.  He won his first pro fight by ko/tko  back in 2011.  In his last fight he fought against Soap Am at a previous CES and lost by submission in Rd 3.  I see this fight heading to the ground real quick and I don't see it going to a decision with both of these caliber of fighters.

185 PRO Stephen Stengel (5-11 Indepedent) vs. Mike Rodriguez ( 1-0 Trifecta)

At 185lbs Stephen Stengel takes on Mike Rodriguez.  It is the veteran versus the up and coming rising star.  Stengel is an independent fighter with a 5-11 record.  Stengel started out his career in 2006 and fought for WCF.  He lost the majority of his 11 losses by submissions.  In his wins he has defeated Joe Cronin and Mike Zichelle to name a few.  In his last fight he fought for Premier FC against Gustavo Kuhn and lost by ko/tko in Rd 1.  The veteran will be ready for his next challenge this Saturday.  Rodriguez trains out of Trifecta and has a 1-0 record.  Rodriguez had an awesome amateur career with a 4-1 record.  His only loss came by submission to Buck Pineau.  In his pro debut he defeated the veteran Ralph Johnson ko/tko in Rd 1.  Now he has his sights set on another veteran and when the cage doors are locked both fighters will put on a show!

155 PRO Sean Nichols (1-2 Sityodtong) vs. Alex Dunworth (1-1 Rivera Atheltics)

At 155lbs Sean Nichols challenges Alex Dunworth in a professional battle.  Nichols trains out of Sityodtong and has a 1-2 record.  Sean has one win by submission against Keegan Hornstra so far in his pro career.  He has an awesome nickname The Ginger Ninja too. For his losses he lost one by submission and one by decision.  His opponent, Dunworth trains out of Rivera Athletics and comes into this battle with a 1-1 record.  He lost one fight by ko/tko and won one by decision against Josh Parker back in 2009.  We will have to see if cage rust is a factor in this fight.  As you can see their records are very close and in return this should be another solid battle for Cage Titans.

150 PRO Louis Torres (1-2 Iron House MMA) vs. Peter Barrett (2-0 CCFA)

Next up is a catch weight of 150lbs between Louis Torres and Peter Barrett.  Torres trains out of Iron House MMA and has a 1-2 record.  I wasn't able to find his win online in the record books but he lost both by ko/tko at AFO.  I was there for both of those and don't let Louis's record fool you.  He has some good Muay Thai and a solid ground game.  His opponent Barrett trains out of CCFA and has a 2-0 record.  Barrett will be the fan favorite in this one and he loves to put on a show.  With two wins both by ko/tko he does not like to let it go to the judges.  A slow paced fight is not in Barrett's vocabulary.  Fight of the night candidate right here.

135 PRO TITLE Juan Puerta (8-3 ATT ) vs. Johnny Campbell (8-5 SSSF)

For the 135lbs professional belt Juan Perta will take on Johnny Campbell.  Puerta trains out of American Top Team and has an 8-3 record.  He has 6 wins by submission and two decision victories so far in his pro career.  For his losses he lost 2 by decision and one by submission.  Campbell trains out of SSSF and comes into this fight with an 8-5 record.  Campbell has been on a tear with 3 straight victories in which all of them were won by split decision!  He will be looking to continue his streak this Saturday.  Campbell does a good job at staying out of trouble and works his strikes.  In return he gets the nod by the judges.  I see this fight coming to a decision again and man its going to be close.

125 PRO TITLE Remo Cardarelli (4-0 Rivera Athletics) vs. Billy Giovanella (7-2 Connor's MMA)

For the main event Remo Cardarelli defends his 125lb pro title against Billy Giovanella.  Remo has a perfect 4-0 record and trains out of Rivera Athletics.  He has won all 4 of his pro fights by way of submission.  This will be his toughest fight to date in my opinion and its going to be real fun to watch.  Giovanella trains out of Connor's MMA and has a 7-2 record.  He has 3 sub, 2 ko/tko and 2 wins by decision.  His only two losses were by ko/tko by the hands of Darren Mima (who will be in the house) and one by sub to Robbie Slade.  Giovanella is a ground specialist and takes people down at will.  The only fighter I have ever seen him have trouble with was Darren Mima.  This fight is going to be settled on the ground and in my opinion has major potential to be the fight of the night.  Do Not leave early fight fans!  You don't want to miss this one.

I hope you all enjoyed our write up and we hope we 'teased' you enough to want to come out and check out what Cage Titans has to offer.  WesternMassMMA.com will have a crew heading out east to cover the show for you all.  The Artist will be taking photos and I will be doing the live updates.  We probably won't have a live play by play but there will be a full write up later.  Special thanks to Cage Titans for putting this remarkable show together and sharing with us the most up to date fight card.  Hope to see you all there!
