🚨BREAKING--🚨 LANGSTON TO MEET HERRERA IN LIGHTWEIGHT BOUT AT NEF 47

 [NEF PRESS RELEASE]

Auburn, Maine (April 27, 2022) – New England Fights (NEF) returns with its next mixed-martial-arts (MMA) event “NEF 47: The Battle of L/A” on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at the Norway Savings Bank Arena in Auburn, Maine.  Earlier today, the fight promotion announced the addition of a professional lightweight bout to the card.  Carl Langston (1-6) is scheduled to face Zenon Herrera (1-8) at a fight weight of 155 pounds.

Carl Langston is coming off the long sought-after first win of his professional career last February at “NEF 46.”  Langston accepted a fight on short notice with Zac Richard (1-2) after Richard’s original opponent pulled out the week before the event.  It took Langston a mere 1:21 to submit Richard in the first round and score the upset.  That fight was a rematch of a November 2021 meeting that saw Richard defeat Langston via first round technical knockout.  The win put an end to a six-fight skid for Langston that started with his pro debut in the spring of 2018.  Langston will now look for his second win as a professional on May 14 against Herrera.

“I want to thank NEF for this fight,” said Langston. “They do a good job getting me opponents. Everyone knows that I’m way better than my record. It was a matter of showing up mentally and I did that in my last fight against Zac. I know the mindset I need to get in to go out there and perform the way everyone knows I can. Zenon is just another guy on the hit list and I’ll be getting my hand raised at all cost come May 14th.”

Zenon “K-Bar” Herrera is a longtime veteran of the NEF cage having made his debut with the promotion in the spring of 2015.  Like Langston, Herrera’s professional career began with a six-fight losing streak before he was able to upset Nate Charles (0-1) at “NEF 32” in February 2018 by unanimous decision.  He lost his next two, and has not competed since April 2019.  Herrera says that his return to the NEF cage is based on a family promise.

“I think it’s been two, or maybe even three long years since last I competed actively,” noted Herrera.  “It’s a long time to reflect on the things that have happened in my life. My youngest niece reminded me, ‘Uncle Z, you promised me I could watch you fight one time.’ Seeing the look on her face, I knew I had to face all of the doubts I’ve had about being a fighter. This match with Langston is about more than just stepping back into the sport I’ve loved for so long. It’s about facing my inner demons and rising above any and all doubts. Most of all, it’s about an uncle keeping his promise, and delivering his niece a win.”
