📰 NEWS--📰 NEF ANNOUNCES THE FULL FIGHT CARD FOR THOMPSON’S POINT OUTDOOR EVENT

[NEF PRESS RELEASE]

Portland, Maine (July 15, 2022) – New England Fights (NEF) returns with its next mixed-martial-arts (MMA) event “NEF 48: Heatwave” on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at the Rink at Thompson’s Point in Portland, Maine.  The event will be NEF’s first outdoor event since “NEF 8” in 2013.  Earlier today, the fight promotion announced the full fight card for the event.

In the headline fight of the evening, undefeated Nathaniel Grimard (2-0) will take on New York’s Jake Hixenbaugh (1-0) in a professional lightweight contest.  Grimard, the former NEF Amateur Featherweight Champion, will look for the third straight win to start his pro career, while Hixenbaugh looks to build on a submission win in his pro debut last month.

Mark “Pockets” Gardner (2-3) faces Massachusetts’ Justin Burrill (3-3) in the co-main event.  The bout will be contested in the 170-pound professional welterweight division.  Gardner hopes to bounce back from a loss to Ryan Sanders (19-9) at “NEF 47” last spring.  Likewise, Burrill will be looking to bounce back from a loss to Trevor Gudde (4-2) on a fight card in Massachusetts last month.

In a featured professional heavyweight bout, Ras “Rasquatch” Hylton (7-6) meets Cody Lightfoot (6-5) in a classic striker vs. wrestler battle.  Including his amateur career, Hylton has a whopping nine knockouts in his ten total wins.  Lightfoot, who won a Maine state championship wrestling in high school and was a Division III All-New England selection in college, vows that this will be the last fight in an MMA career that has spanned 14 years.

Rounding out the professional portion of the card will be Matt “Ken Doll” Denning (6-14) taking on Brian Cosco (0-0) at a catchweight of 165 pounds.  It will be the fifth fight for Denning in just eleven weeks.  He is coming off a submission win in Massachusetts last month.  Cosco is set to make his pro debut after twelve years and 17 fights as an amateur.

The amateur portion of the “NEF 48” card will be headlined by a welterweight title fight between Kyle Hill (2-0) and Curtis Ouellette (3-3).  Both fighters are riding a two-fight win streak into the title bout.  The 170-pound amateur welterweight championship is currently vacant.

Ryan Fredette (0-0) will take on David Burke (1-0) in an amateur middleweight fight.  Fredette makes his MMA debut after a successful wrestling career out of Winslow High School that saw him win four Maine state titles and a New England championship.  Burke had an impressive debut at “NEF 47” with a 19-second technical knockout of David McCarty (1-2).

Seth Godfrey (1-0) faces Jared Turcotte (0-0) in the amateur light heavyweight division.  It took Godfrey a mere 37 seconds to put away George Pissimissis (1-3) at “NEF 47” in Auburn last May.  Jared Turcotte is a member of the Auburn-Lewiston Hall of Fame for his work on the football gridiron during his time at Lewiston High School.  He also played for the University of Maine at Orono.

BJ Garceau (3-1) is scheduled to meet Maria Clinton (2-0) in the sole women’s contest of the evening.  The bout will be contested in the 115-pound amateur strawweight division.  Garceau will look to stay in the win column after a first-round submission win at “NEF 45” last November.  Undefeated Maria Clinton brings a pair of decision victories with her from her home in Prince Edward Island, Canada.

“There is no place on the planet more perfect than Maine during the summer months,” said NEF co-owner and matchmaker Matt Peterson. “Ever since we blew up the Bangor Waterfront back in 2013, we’ve wanted to bring NEF back outdoors to enjoy a night of fights in the natural beauty of Vacationland. We found the perfect spot at Thompson’s Point. Positioned on a peninsula and surrounded by the beach and ocean water, this will be the most scenic and unique venue we’ve ever ran. We’re bringing a fight card that is worthy of the splendor of the setting. As New Englanders we all know that summer nights are magic—and July 30th promises to be extra special.”

For those unable to attend, the event will also be live streamed via pay-per-view at www.CombatSportsNow.com.
