Bangor, Maine (September 7, 2022) – New England Fights (NEF) returns to Bangor, Maine on Friday, September 9, 2022, with its next mixed-martial-arts (MMA) event “NEF 49: Queen City Showdown.” It will be NEF’s first event in Bangor in more than three years. Earlier today, the fight promotion announced the addition of a professional catchweight bout to the card. “The” Ryan Sanders returns to the cage to take on Stephen Stengel at a fight weight of 175 pounds.
Sanders (19-9) will fight in his hometown of Bangor for the first time since September 2018 when he submitted Armando Montoya (10-7) in the first round at “NEF 35.” He is a perfect 3-0 on his home turf dating back to 2016. Sanders’ most recent victory came over Mark Gardner (3-3) at “NEF 47” last May via first-round knockout in Auburn, Maine. It was his fourth win in a row, a stretch that also saw Sanders capture the NEF Professional Lightweight Title. He has won nine of his last ten and has not lost a fight since March 2018. Sanders currently represents Vision Quest Muay Thai based in Newport, Maine.
"I’m stoked to be fighting in my hometown,” said Sanders. “I’m glad that Stengel took this fight. He stepped up because no one else wanted to fight me. I’m going to impose my will and make his voice chirp. He will eventually look for a way out and I’ll oblige him… eventually. Evolve or Die."
With a fight career dating back to 2006, Stephen Stengel is one of the longest-active professional competitors on the globe. In recent years, Stengel has also tested his mettle in the boxing ring. He fights out of Winchendon, Massachusetts.
