📰 NEWS--📰AUSTIN ON TITLE FIGHT WITH RUSSELL: “I’M CONFIDENT THAT I’M GONNA WALK OUT WITH MY HAND RAISED”

[NEF PRESS RELEASE]

Portland, Maine (May 6, 2023)

Caleb Austin has been a student of the game from the cradle as it applies to mixed martial arts and wrestling.

Over the past two years, those exploits have taken a brief back seat while Austin, 24, concentrated on hitting the books elsewhere.

Since a loss by technical knockout to Tyler Smythe with one second remaining in the fourth round of a New England Fights (NEF) amateur championship bout, Austin has spent 18 months training but also recommitted to earning his college degree.

“I went back to school. I’m actually in my dorm right now. It wasn’t planned,” Austin said of his break from the cage during a recent interview on the Between Rounds Radio podcast with Ryan Jarrell.

Austin, known in the sport for being almost religious about what he puts into his body while preparing for a fight, is applying that expertise to a health science major with a minor in education at the University of Southern Maine.

📰 NEWS--📰 NATE RUSSELL LOOKS TO ADD FIFTH MMA TITLE TO HIS COLLECTION AT NEF 52

[NEF PRESS RELEASE]

 Portland, Maine (May 3, 2023)

Those who are courageous and motivated enough to enter the mixed martial arts cage often quickly gravitate toward two common goals: To eventually get paid for it, and/or wrap a championship belt around the waist as the payoff that keeps on giving when the fighting days are done.

Having recently achieved the milestone age of 40, Nate Russell has realized one of those aspirations a remarkable four times in his 11-fight amateur career. He’s also realistic enough and devoted enough to his family and 9-to-5 career to recognize that the other ship already may have sailed.

A champion in four different regional MMA promotions, Russell (8-3) strives to get his hands on a fifth strap when he makes his New England Fights debut.

Russell, who represents Fighting Arts Academy out of Springfield, Massachusetts, will take on a local favorite, Caleb Austin (5-1), for the vacant amateur flyweight title at “NEF 52: Zero Hour.” The card is scheduled for Saturday, May 13 at Aura in Portland, Maine, with an opening bell time of 7 p.m.

📰 NEWS--📰 FLYWEIGHT TITLE WILL BE UP FOR GRABS AT NEF 52

[NEF PRESS RELEASE]

Portland, Maine (April 11, 2023) – New England Fights (NEF) returns to Aura in Portland, Maine on Saturday, May 13, 2023, with its next mixed-martial-arts (MMA) event “NEF 52: Zero Hour.” Earlier today, the fight promotion announced the addition of an amateur flyweight championship bout to the card.  Caleb Austin (5-1) is scheduled to face Nate Russell (8-3) for the vacant NEF amateur 125-pound title.

Caleb “Dr. Feelgood” Austin made his NEF debut in 2017 while still a senior at Mountain Valley High School in Rumford, Maine.  He put together an impressive record of 208-11 while wrestling in high school and won two state titles in the sport.  The transition from the wrestling mats to the MMA cage was a smooth one for Austin who won his first four fights as an amateur by finish and the fifth fight by unanimous decision.  Austin previously challenged for the flyweight strap against Tyler Smythe (1-0 pro, 7-3 amateur) and suffered a defeat in the fourth round.  This will be his second attempt at capturing the belt.  Austin represents Central Maine Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu based in Lewiston, Maine.

🚨BREAKING--🚨 CALEB AUSTIN TO FACE 4X CHAMPION WRESTLER MEDEIROS AT NEF 46 ON FEBRUARY 12

[NEF PRESS RELEASE]

Portland, Maine (December 22, 2021) – New England Fights (NEF) returns with its next mixed-martial-arts (MMA) event, “NEF 46: Decade of Dominance,” on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at Aura in Portland, Maine. The event will commemorate NEF’s ten-year anniversary. The leading regional promotion launched on February 11, 2012. Earlier today, NEF announced the addition of an amateur catchweight bout to the fight card. Former NEF Amateur Flyweight Title Challenger Caleb “Dr. Feelgood” Austin (5-1) is scheduled to face New Hampshire’s Josh Medeiros (0-1) at a fight weight 130-pounds.

Caleb Austin made his NEF debut at the age of 18 while still a high school senior in 2017. He put together a record of 208-11 wrestling for Mountain Valley High School in Rumford, Maine where he won two state titles at 126-pounds. He won the first four fights of his amateur MMA career via finish. Most recently, Austin sustained the first loss of his career when he was stopped by NEF Flyweight Champion Tyler “Butter Knife” Smythe (3-1) in the fourth round of their championship fight last November at “NEF 45: Uprising.” Austin currently represents Central Maine Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (CMBJJ) in Lewiston, Maine.

“On February 12th, I begin my journey back to capturing the NEF flyweight title,” Austin stated. “I’m convinced that I have the skills to be the top 125-pounder in the Northeast. Facing and overcoming adversity is part of the process in any worthwhile pursuit in life. I will be back in a big way at NEF’s 10-year event.”
