ASAP Fight League Presents Battle At The Sun 2/15/2014 Teaser

There is a new promotion in New England and they are having their first show this Saturday at Mohegan Sun.  This one is being held in the Uncas Ballroom and the doors open at 6pm with a fight time of 7pm.  The league is called Amateur Sport and Professional Fight League aka ASAP Fight League has titled their first show as Battle at the Sun.  Right now they have 7 fights with the potential of one more being added if they can find an opponent.  The show is run by Pete Rogers Sr, who is no stranger to the mma game.  The matchmaker for this event is good friend of ours Mark Vanaman who assisted and helped run many AFO shows.  He is also no stranger to the MMA scene.  Tickets start at just $35 and range up to $100 which are not bad for a solid 7 card event which features professional fights.  You can get your tickets by clicking at the link here.

Mike D'Andria vs Carl Langston

The first fight of the evening is between Carl Langston and Mike D'Andria.  Mike is an amateur fighter who will be making his amateur debut.  He trains out of Muscle Max.  Carl is from Balanced Ground MMA and has an 0-3 record.  He lost by one submission, one ko/tko to strikes and in his last one last weekend a split decision at NEF to Charlie Stambach.  This is a much better fight for Carl and I am excited to see what these two guys can do in the cage.

Gio Fiasconaro vs Robert Edmiston

Next up is Gio Fiasconaro taking on Robert Edmiston at 205lbs.  Gio is an amateur fighter whom will be making his amateur debut.  Bobby is also a brand new amateur fighter who will be making his amateur debut.  Two new fighters, who will be ready to put on a show in front of us all this Saturday.

Nick Ortiz vs Marquis Brewster

For the 3rd fight Nick Ortiz takes on Marquis Brewster at 135lbs.   Nick will be making his amateur debut this Saturday.  Marquis is 2-0 and is from NE Combat in RI.  He has won a decision and a tko to strikes so far in his amateur career.  Marquis has the experience in this fight so we will have to wait and see if that will play a factor in this battle.

Darryl Mayer vs Jose Rivera

Then Darryl Mayer takes on Jose Rivera at 155lbs. Darryl will be making his amateur debut.  Jose is from Kipp's Basement and his nickname is "The Problem."  He fought at Mohegan Sun once before and that was against Kevin Aurelien for Reality Fighting.  He won that battle in the first round by tko to strikes at the 1:53 mark.  Not much is known at this time about Darryl so we will keep a close eye on him this Saturday for you all.

Kimi Haslip vs Kim Russell

Then ASAP has a female bout between Kimi Haslip and Kim Russell at 140lbs.  Kimi is fighting out of CT and it says Team Rogers with an 0-0 record.  Kim is from Balanced Ground MMA and has an 0-1 record.  I saw her last fight up in Bangor and she is a grinder.  She ended up losing by a decision to Tara Mitchell but it was an awesome battle.  I expect this fight to be of the same nature so get ready fight fans for a good battle.

Dan Cormier vs Ernesto Ornelas

For the first pro fight of the evening at 125lbs Dan Cormier will face off against Ernesto Ornelas.  Dan or better known as The Hamburgler is from Team United and comes into this fight with a 2-3 record.  He lost one by decision and two by submission against tough fighters.  For his two wins, he won them also by decision and in his last fight it was a win over a very tough Marvin Maldonado.  He will be looking to continue his winning ways this Saturday.  Ernesto is from Choi's MMA up in Maine and he has a 1-4 record.  He has lost all four of his losses by submissions.  His sole win came by submission to strikes.  I expect this fight to be an awesome stand up battle.  Both fighters have excellent striking which should make for an exciting fight.

Tyler King vs Eric Bedard

For the main event in the heavyweight division Tyler King takes on Eric Bedard.  This fight is a rematch from 2012 in which Tyler won by knockout by knee.  Tyler is from Connor's MMA and has a 7-1 record.  Tyler has many wins by way of fist but he also has 3 submission victories which is rare for a heavyweight.  His only loss came by decision to Randy Smith which was a 5 round war.  Eric has recently changed gyms to Triforce MMA and this will be his first fight with them.  Eric has a 5-4 record.  Eric also has 2 submission wins of his own and the other 3 came by way of the fist.  His last fight he lost by decision to Juliano Coutinho and he is looking to bounce back.  This fight is going to be a good one and it if is like the first one it will be action packed.  Be prepared for anything at any time, it could end in a knockout or perhaps a submission.  I can't wait!

There you have the full breakdown of the event coming up this Saturday.  It features 2 professional fights and at least 5 more amateur fights.  This is their first show so I am anxious to see how it all comes together.  I know the fights will be streamed on GFL.TV for $9.99 and our co-owner The Artist will be working with FCAT to get that working and film the fights in HD quality.  Warchild will be there taking photos for us and I will be there with the live play by play.  Our good friend of the site Jay Pagliaro will be there hosting. So come on down to the casinos and do a little gambling and see some fights later that evening!  Thanks to ASAP fight league for keeping us in the loop with the fight card.  We appreciate it.
