📰 NEWS--📰FAULKNER ON TITLE FIGHT: “AT THE END OF THE NIGHT I’M GONNA GET MY HAND RAISED AND HAVE THE BELT WRAPPED AROUND MY WAIST”

[NEF PRESS RELEASE]

Portland, Maine (April 20, 2023)

It isn’t hard to follow the pattern of Zach Faulkner’s progression through the amateur lightweight ranks with New England Fights (NEF).

The Bangor, Maine-born Faulkner, now fighting out of the state’s largest city in Portland, has entered the cage every four to six months since the pandemic pause.

You can set your watch to his itinerary. One card on, next card off.

Never keen to play it safe, Faulkner (5-3) consistently has asked NEF Matchmaker Matt Peterson to pair him with opponents who will stretch his skill set and are more certain to bolster his resume than his record.

Like clockwork and without a moment’s hesitation, Faulkner signed on the dotted line for a doozy on Saturday, May 13. He will battle Artur Minev of Ukraine for the vacant NEF 155-pound title at “NEF 52: Zero Hour,” to be held at Aura in Portland. Opening bell time is 7 p.m.

“I think it was time for a little step up in competition with the guys I’ve been fighting,” Faulkner said. “I needed a guy that’s more like pro ready, especially where I’m looking to make that next jump to go pro. Watching him fight, he looked like the kind of guy that I needed to fight to take that next step.”

📰 NEWS--📰 FAULKNER & MINEV TO CLASH FOR LIGHTWEIGHT TITLE AT NEF 52

[NEF PRESS RELEASE]

Portland, Maine (April 12, 2023) – New England Fights (NEF) returns to Aura in Portland, Maine on Saturday, May 13, 2023, with its next mixed-martial-arts (MMA) event “NEF 52: Zero Hour.” Earlier today, the fight promotion announced the addition of an amateur lightweight championship bout to the card.  Zach Faulkner (5-3) is scheduled to face Artur Minev (3-0) for the 155-pound title.  The belt was vacated by former champion Kyle Pufahl (5-1) upon his decision to turn pro at “NEF 52.”

Zach Faulkner is coming off a win by majority decision over Chase O’Brien (1-1) last November at “NEF 50.”  He challenged previously for an NEF amateur title on one occasion, losing a very close split decision to Mike Murray (4-2) in February 2022 in a matchup for the welterweight strap.  Three of Faulkner’s five wins have come by finish.  He currently represents Recon MMA based in Westbrook, Maine.

📰 NEWS--📰 FAULKNER FOCUSED ON REACHING THE TOP

 [NEF PRESS RELEASE]

Portland, Maine (October 25, 2022)

For a 23-year-old mixed martial artist with seven amateur fights, Zachary Faulkner is about as well-traveled and well-connected as it gets.

Faulkner’s first mentor in the sport was none other than one of the sport’s pioneers, Marcus Davis, a UFC and Bellator veteran and fellow native of Bangor, Maine.

After being encamped with the New England Cartel, Faulkner flirted with other national opportunities before accepting Davis’s invitation to train and fight in North Carolina.

Now he’s back around his teenage home in the Greater Portland area, rapidly building a fan base and a reputation with New England Fights (NEF) as a tireless gym rat who will fight anyone, anywhere.

📰 NEWS--📰 FAULKNER & O’BRIEN IN LIGHTWEIGHT SCRAP AT NEF 50

[NEF PRESS RELEASE]

Portland, Maine (October 19, 2022) – New England Fights (NEF) returns to Aura in Portland, Maine on Saturday, November 12, 2022, with its next mixed-martial-arts (MMA) event “NEF 50.”  Earlier today the fight promotion announced the addition of an amateur lightweight bout to the card.  Zach Faulkner (4-3) will meet Chase O’Brien (0-0) at a fight weight of 155 pounds.

Zach Faulkner will look to break the first two-fight losing streak of his amateur career and pick up his first win of the calendar year.  He started 2022 off with a split-decision loss in a very hard fought battle with Mike Murray (4-2) for the NEF Amateur Lightweight Title at “NEF 46” in February.  Faulkner would suffer his next loss against a tough Bobby Kelley (3-4) last summer at “NEF 48.”  Prior to 2022, Faulkner was 4-1 with three finishes to his credit.  He is a five-year veteran of the NEF cage.  Faulkner currently represents Recon MMA based in Westbrook, Maine.

[NEF PRESS RELEASE]

Portland, Maine (June 30, 2022) – New England Fights (NEF) returns with its next mixed-martial-arts (MMA) event “NEF 48: Heatwave” on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at the Rink at Thompson’s Point in Portland, Maine.  The event will be NEF’s first outdoor event since “NEF 8” in 2013.  Earlier today, the fight promotion announced the addition of an amateur lightweight bout to the card.  Zach Faulkner (4-2) is set to face Bobby Kelley (2-3) at a weight of 155 pounds.

📰NEWS--📰 FAULKNER CHASES MMA DREAM UP AND DOWN THE EASTERN SEABOARD

[NEF PRESS RELEASE]

 Portland, Maine (January 21, 2022)

Twice as a teenager, Zach Faulkner made a decision that was wise beyond his years to apprentice under the watchful eyes of a mixed martial arts legend.

Whether it meant walking into Marcus Davis' gym in Maine as a wide-eyed teenager or packing his suitcase and joining him in North Carolina as a young adult, Faulkner fully grasped the concept of learning from someone who had been where he wanted to go.

“I wear my kilt when I walk out. He had given that to me a couple years ago,” Faulkner said of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) veteran Davis in a recent interview with Steve Domenico of NewEnglandMMA.org for The Room Podcast. “Even when he's not here, it’s like I've still got him in my corner.”

Faulkner (4-1) will represent his mentor and wield that wisdom Saturday, February 12, when he battles “Magic” Mike Murray (3-2) for the New England Fights amateur welterweight title at “NEF 46: Decade of Dominance.” Bell time for the 10-year anniversary celebration at Aura in Portland, Maine, is set for 7 p.m.

MURRAY VS FAULKNER SET TO CLASH FOR WELTERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

[NEF PRESS RELEASE]

Portland, Maine (November 23, 2021) – New England Fights (NEF) returns with its next mixed-martial-arts (MMA) event, “NEF 46: Decade of Dominance,” on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at Aura in Portland, Maine. The event will commemorate NEF’s ten-year anniversary. The leading regional promotion launched on February 11, 2012. Earlier today, NEF announced the addition of an amateur championship bout to the fight card. Former NEF Lightweight Contender “Magic” Mike Murray (3-2) is scheduled to move up in weight to face Zach Faulkner (4-1) for the currently vacant NEF Welterweight Championship at a fight weight of 170 pounds. The Championship was recently vacated when former title holder Mike Bezanson (5-0) publicly stated that he will be turning professional in his next bout.

Mike Murray has dazzled fans since he made his NEF debut in June 2019. After rattling off impressive back-to-back first-round rear-naked-choke submission victories in his first two fights, Murray faced off against Zac Richard (1-0) for the then vacant NEF Lightweight Championship. After a lively five-round fight, Murray lost a decision to Richard. Murray rebounded with a win in Florida. Murray recently retired from a successful service career in the US Marine Corps.

“I’m extremely grateful and excited to be back after two years outside of the cage, and to be given the opportunity to fight for the 170-pound title against an absolutely game opponent,” Murray stated. “I personally feel like we are each other’s best match up after seeing his striking and jiu jitsu in his last fight. I’ve been two years out of the cage, but not two years out of the fight. This past summer alone, I went undefeated in Muay Thai, and had 15 jiu jitsu matches, and placed increasingly higher in each tournament. My prediction for this fight is that it’ll be the most entertaining amateur fight on this card - if not this year. I’ve been putting in the work to be the most lethal version of myself, and I believe this is the best I’ve ever been coming into a fight. There’s no animosity going into this one, this is purely two dogs getting locked in a cage. I’m so thrilled to be a part of this incredibly special 10-year anniversary card. This will for sure be a night to remember.”
