CAGE TITANS 32 1/28/2017 LIVE REVIEW

After attempting to get a Papa Gino's pizza and not wanting to wait 45 minutes for a pizza we arrived angrily at Plymouth Memorial Hall.  Kelly MacDonald was doing her thing climbing all over the cage adjusting the lights.  I saw many familiar faces of course but as the list grows it is just too many to list.  OK, we had our slice of pizza here at the venue so Warchild and I have calmed down.  There is a total of 15 fights tonight as one dropped off.  The Mike Dinella fight is the one that dropped off and Alex Dolan stepped up just today to fill in for Crowsneck Boutin.  Alan Lau, Kevin MacDonald and Steve Rita are the refs for the night.  Please follow along as we recap the evening.




160 AM Jay-Quan Wilder (5-0, Team Anubis) vs Fabian Miranda (3-0, Juniko)

They clinch and Fabian is looking for the takedown.  They roll and Jay is looking for the guillotine.  Fabian powers through it and tries to keep Jay down but he is right back up.  Fabian slams him tot he mat and they bounce right back to their feet.  Jay reaches in with a left and they are grappling again.  Fabian takes him down and is getting in some hammerfists here and there.  He drags him to the center and is now firing knees to the side as the round ends.

Miranda 10-9

Rd 2:  They are both swinging away.  Jay is trying to taunt him into hitting him as he gets a kick to the body.  Fabian takes him down briefly and Jay is right back up.  Jay connects with a combo.  Fabian gets a double leg takedown and is now in guard.  He gets in a few punches and they end up rolling.  Fabian has his back and is looking for the finish.  He is dropping bombs left and right and then going for the rear naked choke as the round ends.  Wow onto round 3!

Miranda 10-9

Rd 3:  Fabian starts the round off with an outside leg kick.  He connects with a spinning back fist to the chest area.  Fabian tries for a takedown but Jay defends it nicely.  A kick connects to the cup and Jay takes a few minutes to recover.  Fight resumes and they start swinging again.  Fabian tries for a takedown and is stuffed.  Jay tries for a takedown as the 10 second mark sounds but Fabian defends.

Fabian Miranda defeats Jay-Quan Wilder via unanimous decision.







140 AM Glen Kasabian (1-0, Nostos) vs Daniel Pina (0-0, Redline)

They clinch up and Glen is trying for a takedown.  Daniel is peppering him with some punches while defending.  They eventually break and are back to the center.  Glen connects with a combo before he closes the gap.  He has a hold on the single leg looking for the takedown but is forced to give up on it.  They break and Daniel connects with a combo as the round ends.

Pina 10-9

Rd 2:  Glen starts us off with a right.  Glen connects with a combo.  He is trying for a takedown briefly.  Glen is pressing Daniel up against the cage.  Pina gets in a kick that hits the cup.  Fight resumes and Glen rushes in with a combo.  Daniel gets the takedown and Glen tries for an armbar as the round ends.

Kasabian 10-9

Rd 3:  They clinch and Pina gets in a knee to the body.  Glen is now pressing Daniel up against the cage.  Glen is looking for the single leg but can't get it.  Daniel reverses and they are both exchanging knees.  Glen is grabbing the fence again and Ref Lau deducts a point.  They are clinching and Daniel is looking for the takedown.  He gets the slam and is in guard as the round ends.

Pina 10-8 due to point deduction.

135 AM John Semenuk (0-0, Juniko) vs Joe Smith (2-1, Lauzon MMA)

John rushes in for the takedown and gets it.  Joe almost rolls him and eventually gets to his feet.  He takes John down but is caught in a guillotine.  Joe fights it and is now in guard.  John gets in some shots from the bottom and reverses him.  Joe is looking for an armbar but can't get the arm free.  John slams him and gets in some clean shots to the head.

Semenuk 10-9

Rd 2:  Joe dives for a takedown but is stuffed.  Joe is trying for an armbar again and John is firing down some hammerfists from the top.  John steps over and takes his back.  Joe spins and is out.  John is looking for an armbar but switches to a triangle for the tap.  Awesome submission for John's first fight.

170 AM Brandon Murphy (0-1, Golden Falcon) vs Rich Hacking (1-0, SSSF)

Brandon connects with a kick to the body.  Rich connects with a right.  They are both swinging hard.  Brandon seems dazed but comes back swinging.  He connects with a combo that drops Rich.  He finishes him off with some ground and pound.

175 AM Jon Ciampa (1-2, Connors MMA) vs Tommy Davis (2-0, Juniko)

Jon rushes in for the takedown.  They slam so hard into the cage I thought the lights were gonna fall on them.  Jon is trying hard for the takedown and Tommy ends up pushing him to the mat.  Jon is standing back up and Tommy makes him pay with some hard punches.  He finishes him off with some ground and pound for the ref stoppage.

Tommy Davis defeats Jon Ciampa via ko at 1:22 in Rd 1.







165 AM Joshua Valentin (2-3, Bang Muay Thai) vs Ed Forlenza (2-1, Juniko)

Josh rushes in and gets the quick takedown.  He is trying to pass and Ed rolls him.  Ed moves to half guard and is trying for a kimura.  Ed is trying for an arm triangle but can't get the tap.  He gets in a few punches as the round ends.

Forlenza 10-9

Rd 2:  Josh gets the quick takedown and is in half guard.  Ed tries to stand and Josh takes his back.  He works a rear naked choke and Ed fights it for a bit but in the end Josh gets the tap.

170 AM Ryan Dunn (0-0, Indy) vs Marty Navis (1-1, Lauzon)

Ryan looks for a takedown but they bounce right back up.  They break and Marty connects with a knee to the body.  Marty takes him down with a slam and is in half guard.  He gets in some hammerfists and Ryan uses the cage to work his way up.  Marty takes him down again the crowd roars.  Ryan gives up his back and Marty is firing hammerfists left and right as the bell sounds.

Navis 10-9

Rd 2:  Marty ducks under a punch and gets the takedown.  He moves to full mount and is dropping bombs.  Ryan gets out and sweeps.  Marty works a triangle and reverses it and is dropping bombs from the top.  What a finish!

185 AM David Sheehan (0-1, Connors MMA) vs Fabio Cherant (1-1, Juniko)

Dave goes for the takedown and gets it.  Fabio gets right up and has David in a guillotine but can't get the finish.  Dave takes him down and Fabio sweeps.  Fabio is in guard as the round ends.

Sheehan 10-9

Rd 2:  Dave goes for a takedown and Fabio catches him in a gullotine.  David gets free and they roll.  Dave pushes Fabio back to the mat.  They work their way up and Dave is looking for the takedown but it is a stalemate until the end of the round.

Sheehan 10-9

Rd 3:  They clinch and Dave slams Fabio up against the cage.  They reverse and Fabio takes Dave's back and quickly works the rear naked choke for the tap.

155 AM Jurrell Laronal (1-0, Team Trifecta) vs Zach DiSabatino (2-0, SSSF)

They clinch and Zach works 4 knees to the body.  Zach gets hit in the cup and takes a minute.  Jurrell gets in a combo and Zach slams him to the mat.  He gets in some knees to the body and one more for good measure as Jurrell is standing up.  Zach gets another takedown and keeps him there until the round ends.

DiSabatino 10-9

Rd 2:  Jurrell connects with a kick and Zach gets the takedown.  He moves to full mount and is trying to posture up.  Jurrell bucks him off is working his way up.  Zach connects with some punches and gets another slamming takedown.  Zach gets in some punches as the round ends.

DiSabatino 10-9

Rd 3:  Zach works a takedown and is in half guard.  He moves to the side and they work their way up.  Jurrell connects with a knee to the body.  He gets in a solid combo and Zach takes him back down as the round ends.

155 PRO David McClendon (Victory 0-0) vs. Jimmy Manning (SSSF 1-0)

Jimmy gets the quick takedown.  He moves to the side and as David is getting up he tries to take his back.  David slips out and Jimmy takes him down again.  He postures up and is dropping hammerfists.  He takes his back and gets the tap with the rear naked choke.

145 PRO Jeff Perez (SBG East 0-0) vs. Ryan DiBartolomeo (Link 0-1)

Jeff connects with a right that sends Ryan back.  One more sends him to the mat and he bounces back up.  Ryan looks for the takedown.  He gets in some knees to the leg.  Jeff spins out and tries for a guillotine.  He takes his back and gets in some punches to the head as the round ends.

Perez 10-9

Rd 2:  Jeff gets in a jab.  Ryan rushes in and Jeff swings him around.  Pretty much it's a stalemate the rest of the round.  I would have liked to see a ref breakup in there but not mentioning names :P

Rd 3:  Jeff connects with a jab.  They clinch and Ryan is looking for a takedown.  He gets in some knees to the body.  Jeff reverses and gets in a good knee to the body.  Jeff scoops him down but Ryan bounces back to his feet.

Close round DiBart 10-9

Jeff Perez defeats Ryan DiBartolomeo via unanimous decision.







175 PRO Alex Dolan (0-4 Independent) vs. Joe Giannetti (SSSF 2-0)

Joe takes him down and Ale bounces back up.  Joe slams him to the mat again and works an armbar for the tap.

180 PRO Aaron Goodwine (Gracie Tampa 1-0) vs. Sean Bettencourt (Juniko 0-0)

Both swing and miss.  Sean gets the takedown and Aaron works his way up.  Sean slams him down to the mat again with authority and is trying to pass guard.  Aaron gets back up and Sean trips him down to the mat.  He is in half guard and Aaron bucks him off.  Sean gets another takedown.  Aaron bucks him off and connects with a right.  Aaron is looking for the takedown and Sean connects with 3 knees to the body.  Sean hip tosses him to the mat and Aaron takes the half guard postion after they adjust.

Bettencourt 10-9

Rd 2:  They come out guns blazing.  Aaron connects with some solid ones but Sean gets the takedown.  Aaron is still punching him as he goes down!  As Aaron is getting up Sean tries to take his back but ends up on the side of Aaron.  He gets bumped back to half guard.  Aaron seizes the arm and takes it to the bank for the tap.

130 PRO Michael Whaley (Warrior Warehouse 2-4) vs. Johnny Campbell (SSSF 11-9)

Johnny ducks under a punch and gets the takedown.  He passes to full mount and is dropping bombs.  Mike gives up his back and stands up.  Johnny takes him back down and is now on top again in guard.  Johnny moves to full mount again and is going hard for the finish.  Mike bucks him off and Johnny ends up in guard.  He is working some elbows.  Mike gives up his back and turns out of it.  Johnny stands back up and as the round ends.

Campbell 10-9

Rd 2:  Mike starts us off with an inside leg kick.  Johnny takes him down and is peppering the side.  Johnny slips and and Mike tries for a guillotine and Johnny slams him to the mat.  Johnny passes to half then to full mount.  He takes Mikes back and grabs the neck.  He rolls and gets the tap.

Johnny Campbell defeats Michael Whaley via tapout to rear naked choke at 2:56 in Rd 2.







155 PRO Vince McGuinness (Bang Muay Thai 5-5) vs. Peter Barrett (Sityodtong 7-0)

Pete starts us out with a leg kick.  Vince fires back with a leg kick of his own.  They clinch and Pete gets in a knee to the body.  Pete connects with a left.  Pete slips and gets back to his feet.  They both connect with some hard punches.  Vince spins with a spinning back fist.  Pete gets in a 1-2 combo.  Vince with a left and a hard kick to the body.  Pete connects with a combo and Vince shakes it off.  Great first round.

Barrett 10-9

Right back where we left off with both of them swinging away.  Pete has the single leg but can't finish it.  They are both exchange blows.  Vince connects with a punch and takes Peter's back.  Pete works his way up.  They are both battling for position.  They break and are swinging again.  Pete gets Vince to the mat and is hitting him with hammerfists.

Barrett 10-9

Rd 3:  Peter gets the takedown but can't keep Vince down.  Pete takes Vince down and moves to full mount.  Vince sweeps and Pete takes his back from standing.  Pete is working the side trying to get the finish.  Vince tries for an armbar but Pete makes him pay with more hammerfists.  What a fight!

Barrett 10-9

Peter Barrett defeats Vince McGuinness via unanimous decision.
