AFO Thanksgiving Massacre 4 November 23, 2011 Review

Arrived at the Holiday Inn with CityBoy.  I am guest writer Wojo and this if my first time doing a review so don't hate on me too bad. Ok, so I'm sitting here at the media table with a nice clear view to the ring. It appears that this is like an upscale banquet hall of  some type. There are a bunch of fancy chandeliers hanging from the ceiling and I can see the Get Punched merch from here... Prime Athletics is here as well with some new shorts that are suppose to be built to last... think I'll get some when I start training in 2012! Lets see... hanging out by the DJ table, sound is good, hopefully it will be when they announce the fight outcomes... don't want to credit the win to the wrong fighter and have him come looking for me!! haha.. Hmm... hope nobody has to be removed on that stretcher over by the wall!! I think the ring girls should maybe have a seat back here with me... don't want em' getting any blood or sweat one em' you know!! There is some cops here to keep things under control... or are they here to make sure nobody leaves the cage before there is a clear winner?! we'll see!! The temperature is comfortable in here... and I'm ready for some fights!!

---------------------------------------------Amateurs--------------------------------------------------

Fight 1: Mike De Los Reyes (Dexter) Vs Alandre Martinez(Indy) 125 lbs

Martinez threw a fury of punches and took Reyes down... but Reyes reversed via sweep and got on top and ended up tapping Martinez at 1:50 of the first round by rear naked choke!! Reyes received a sweet gash on his head as well during the short but sweet fight!!

Mike De Los Reyes defeats Al Martinez via RNC in 1:50 in Rd 1.

Fight 2: Anthony Soto(Allaire) Vs. Mike Ingles(Indy) HVYWT

Great first round!! They were throwing some big punches and and landing some knees... think it might end in a ko we'll see...

Round 2: Soto held Mike against the fence most of the round and tried for a take down.. Mike landed some sweet blows while against the fence but Soto got his take down toward the end...

Round 3: Soto holds Mike to the ring this time and gets some nice hammer fists to his ear!! They separate for a bit then Soto pushes Mike back against the fence and Mike starts landing some blows and then then finishes with a huge uppercut!! He's out for sure!!

Mike Ingles defeats Anthony Soto in 2:10 in Rd 3

Fight 3: Sean Nichols (Wai Kru) vs. Evan Aubry(Iron Will) 160 lbs

It was a back and forth battle on the ground they switched positions a few time took some shots at each other and  Sean about ended it with a choke but Evan held on..

Round 2: Another round spent mostly on the ground. They got back to their feet at the end of the round, some punches landed. Sean controlled most of the round.

Round 3: Sean is landing some sweet punches and knees on Evan. Evan gets the takedown and Sean quickly rolled him over and took the top position and landed some more punches to his face!!

Sean Nichols defeats Evan Aubry unanimous decision.

Fight 4: Kody Nordby 3-0(Allaire)Vs Jared Sarno 4-0(SSSF) 125lbs

This fight went to the ground after a brief stand up and the result was Kody getting the win by an  armbar tap at 1:45 of the first round!! Looked kind of painful too!!

Kody Nordby defeats Jared Sarno via armbar tap in 1:45 in Rd 1.

Fight 5: Tony Derienzo(Lauzon) vs. Tunde Odomuso (United) 135 lbs

Stayed on their feet and got some good strikes in , I was thinking that Odomuso was landing the harder strikes but I was wrong at 1:56, of the very first round, Tony scored a KO!!

Tony Derienzo defeats Tunde Odomuso via KO at 1:56 in Rd 1.

Fight 6: Tom Venticinque 3-1(TUML) vs. Joe Palazio 4-2(Rockstar) 185lbs

Tom got a Big Slam!! Joe sweeps it and took the top and controlled him the whole round.  At the first exchange I believe Tom broke his nose.
Round 2: There on the ground and Joe is on top controlling. Joe took Tom's back and flattened him out. Joe then pounded on his head until the ref stepped in and stopped the fight at 1:41 of the second round TKO!!

Joe Palazio defeats Tom Venticinque in 1:41 ref stoppage in Rd 2.

Fight 7: Mike Canning(Ironwill) Vs Jason Walker(Indy) HVYWT

It was a stand up battle, both were landing some shots on each other, but Canning landed a Knockout blow at 1:54 of the 1st round!!

Mike Canning defeats Jason Walker via KO punch at 1:54 in Rd 1.

We had a brief intermission and before we started up AFO's DJ and my good buddy Brandon and BJ Marino gave Pete an award for his hard work this year with the AFO.  Pete does alot of extra work to help his fighters which includes bailing one out of jail and helping them get their license.  You earned it Pete!  Also to note they called Oil Can Boyd into the cage.

Fight 8: Rico Disciullo 4-0 (sito) Vs Matt Doherty 3-4(tps) 135lbs
Great stand up battle going with some good blows landed and some good knees as well... went to the ground and Rico pounded on Matt for a bit til' the round ended.

Rico 10-9

Round 2: Matt came out strong swinging on Rico and is pushing forward. Rico took him down and stays on top almost to the end of the round.

Rico 10-9

Round 3: Back to the mat... Matt has Rico's back and taps Rico out with a rear naked choke at 2:50 of the final round!!! This was such a battle back and forth the entire fight.  Definitely on the chart for best fight of the year and with seconds left Doherty gets the tap.  What a fight!!  If Rico could have just held on 10 more seconds he could have won that fight but as we all know 10 seconds is alot of time when you can't breathe! Unfortunately this was a non title fight and AFO hints there should be a rematch for the title!!

Matt Doherty defeats Rico Disciullo at 2:50 in Rd 3 via Rear Naked Choke.

---------------------------------------Professional----------------------------------------------------

Fight 9: Tom Evans (TUML) vs. Christian Rivera  145lbs

Rivera takes Tom down after a brief stand up and gets the top position.  During the fight Captain America Evans does some crazy kicks that impress the crowd. Tom reverses and takes the top and ground and pounds him getting the TKO by strikes win at 3:00 first round.

Tom Evans defeats Christian Rivera at 3:00 in Rd 1 via ref stoppage to strikes.

Fight 10:  Mark Hoxie 0-8 vs. Shawn Baker 1-2(CCFA) 205lbs

Holy Crap! Mark is taunting Shawn by leaving his head out and hands down a few times during the round.  Shawn's low kicks must hurt cause he dropped Mark and kicked him a few times while he was on the ground then let him up. Another low kick to the leg left   him wincing in pain then punched repeatedly in the head resulting in a TKO stoppage due to strikes at 3:31 of the first round!! Tough break for Hoxie and I believe at 0-9 he is ready to retire and work more on his writing that we all so much enjoy!  Shawn looked leaner and ripped for this fight and it showed.

Shawn Baker defeats Mark Hoxie via ref stoppage to strikes in Rd 1 at 3:31

Fight 11:  Marques Daniels 5-4 vs. Andres Jeudi(2-0 (Sity) 155lbs

Leg kicks leading into a struggle for a take down. He's down and after a few blows to Marques head Andres takes his back and is working to sink in a choke... he's denied!! Good first round.

Round 2:
Marques is working hard for a take down.  Jeudi controls on the ground the majority of the round.

Round 3:

Stand up time!! Marques going for a take down again getting some nice blows to his body for his efforts. Still trying for the take down.... Thank you ref for standing them back up but unfortunately it goes right back to a take down and the round ends on the ground.

Andres Jeudi defeats Marques Daniels unanimous decision.

Fight 12: Ruben Rey 4-1(Rockstar) Vs Joe Cushman 9-4(Lauzon’s) 135lbs

Joe takes Ruben down with some strikes to the face and is on top throwing some punches Ruben is throwing elbow strikes from the bottom.

Round 2: Ruben is slammed back down to the mat and Joe is was on top for a bit landing strikes...then Ruben got the sweep towards the end of the round.

Round 3:
It's on the ground Joe is on top again throwing strikes to Ruben's face and Rubens still striking from the bottom. They're stood up for a bit but back on the mat again...Ruben has a cut on his forehead and is bleeding everywhere.  What a beast!!

Joe Cushman defeats Ruben Rey via unanimous decision.

It might of been a two hour drive to get to the venue, which was a really upscale Holiday Inn, but it was totally worth it!! What a great night of fights!! With over half of the 12 fights ending in the first round and only 3 going to decision!! A nice blend of Subs, TKOs , and a very punctuated KO!! There’s was only one fight that I felt was kinda boring with most the match just being one fighter holding the other against the cage while attempting to take him down, but I'm guessing the game plan was to take him down and at least he stuck to it which many times when a fighter abandons it it costs them the fight... overall though, the fights where impressive and I would like to thank the match maker, promoter, fighters and all else involved for putting on an excellent, and entertaining, event and I wish them success and many more!! I would also like to thank Cityboy for getting me in there and giving me the opportunity to write for WesternMassMMA!!

P.S. Cityboy is proofreading my write up and fixing what he can but if you find any mistakes I take full responsibility and will do what I can to rectify the problem!! Oh, and if you think your one of the two fighters mentioned above, in the boring fight and I offended you, I still wouldn’t step in the cage with either of you!!
