“The Beast Comes East"
On Friday May 20th, 2011, at 7:00 PM, doors will open to the public as Paul Vandale Promotions arrives at the DCU Center in Worcester, Massachusetts with the highly anticipated mixed martial arts event "The Beast Comes East."  For fighters representing some of the best fight schools in the North East, making their way to the procedural pre-fight weigh-ins will seem familiar however; there is nothing procedural about the night of matches New England fight fans will get to experience on May 20th as the DCU erupts with live MMA action!
With the fight card powered by Warrior Nation Xtreme Fighters Alliance, Paul Vandale Promotions has brought in Western Mass MMA matchmaker, Jesse Camp, to stack a card full of top MMA action and he didn't let you down.  Open to the public will be the weigh-ins which will be held at the DCU Center Showroom at 8:00 PM on Thursday, May 19th with doors opening at 7:00 PM.  The Main Event will feature UFC Legend and Hall of Famer, Dan "The Beast" Severn (Tripp Academy 99-17-7) vs. New England Native, Lee "The Beast" Beane (Wai Kru 7-2-0).  Severn, a native of Coldwater, Michigan, has captured the attention of fight & wrestling fans all over the world since his 1994 UFC debut.  Known as "The Beast", a name given to him by Jim Brown during one of his many tough UFC fights, Severn quickly rose in popularity as he became the only Triple Crown UFC Champion in the sport still to this day. While winning two eight-man tournaments and the Ultimate Ultimate 1996, he would continue to stardom as he competed weekly in the WWF utilizing his Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling skills as well as maintaining a full no-holds-barred fighting schedule.  Severn's accomplishments continue to accrue as he hopes to secure his 100th career win at the DCU Center just one week from today on May 20th!  Standing directly in the way is one of Massachusetts own very reputable Pro MMA Fighters and respected wrestlers, Lee "The Beast" Beane (Wai Kru).  Beane has proven his commitment to New England MMA in the Heavy Weight division and serves as a legitimate opponent who is focused, ready, and confidently moving towards his toughest challenge yet.  Unique to this match is the shared nickname, "The Beast", which serves as a symbolic purse of sorts, with the winner earning full rights!  Both Severn and Beane as the veteran and the up-and-comer have proven to be ambassadors to their sports and will undoubtedly leave it all in the cage as they engage in a full-on war of heavy-weight vs. heavy-weight; Beast vs. Beast in what could prove to be a historical Main Event!
The Co-Main will certainly be of great interest as well to New England MMA fans as a long awaited 145 lb pro match-up cyclones it's way into the DCU Center!  Saul "The Spider" Almeida (Team Nogueira/Dragon's Lair 9-1) will finally meet with Jason "Magic" McLean (AMA Fight Club 6-3) in what is sure to be an extremely dynamic battle between two exciting, hungry, and talented 145 lb fighters!  Both enter the cage with solid experience and individual strengths specific to their style while understanding that there is a lot to gain for whichever fighter walks away with the "W".  With McLean formerly ranked as the #1 145 lb fighter in New England and Almeida clearly holding this title now, it was an obvious match that if secured, could hold weight as a main event itself.  This match is definitely one to watch for as Almeida's slick ground, striking & most recent training with Team Nogueira hope to help secure the win and McLean's rock-solid wrestling background, speed, and power look to stop!
Two popular Worcester natives are sure to have the hometown advantage as they look to earn wins right in their back yard.  Known for his strong performance at the Worcester Moosin event almost exactly one year prior, Ralph "Killa" Johnson (5-2) will get back in the cage and square off against Team Link's newest addition, Abner "Skullman" Lloveras (12-6-1) at 170 lbs.  Both Johnson and Lloveras are known for their quick hands and footwork with striking backgrounds and have a history of exciting fights.  Johnson's most recent match was a three round battle against Forrest Petz, who was 23-7 at the time, in which Johnson was handed a tough decision loss.  Lloveras, an M-1 veteran, hails from Barcelona, Spain and will look to lock his first win in the Commonwealth as he debuts under the Team Link name.  Lloveras’ experience and style combined with Johnson’s ability to bring the fight and towering in at 6’5” should make for an exciting match as strategies will clearly define the tempo.
The second of the two Worcester natives is Fran “The Fury” Collins (The Factory) who will be making his Pro debut against Carlos Rivera (Dog Pound) at 185 lbs.  Collins quickly rose in popularity among the local amateur scene as he made light work of his opponents and gained an impressive number of followers along the way.  Collins, a charismatic kid with a “street tough” attitude, has been honing his MMA skills under the tutelage of head coach and Pro MMA Fighter, Matt Lee and the trainers out of The Factory in Leominster, MA.  Rivera is looking for his first Pro win as he makes his way to Worcester from Meriden, CT training out of Team Dog Pound under head coach and Pro MMA Fighter, Elias Rivera.
The undercard features several amateur bouts that are sure to be crowd pleasers as they bring in some of New England’s best rising MMA stars.  Fighters representing Team United, Cage Strikers, South Shore Sport Fighting, CNY MMA, Atwater’s Martial Arts/Blue Devil Fight Team, Tapout Boston and Team Link all hope to raise their flags high as they show New England fight fans what to expect in the future.  Matches to watch for include Dan Cormier (Team United 4-2) vs. Colton Blanchette (Cage Strikers 5-0) as they both drop down to 125 lbs technically speaking.  Cormier will fight closer to his class as he has typically been fighting at 135 lbs in order to access a bigger fighter pool.  Blanchette, known for his strong wrestling and submissions will be making the cut in order to get this bout done.  Both fighters want it and the fans can get prepared for a complete high paced battle of two extremely dynamic fighters with possible contention for Fight of the Night honors!
South Shore Sport Fighting’s Jared Sarno (3-0) will mix it up with Anthony “Skwirl” Carmenatty, an independent with over 10 ammy bouts.  The match is set at 135 lbs and both fighters typically keep busy in the cage making for exciting fights.  Carmenatty always delivers 110% well rounded skills & effort with good cardio and a lot of determination but will it be enough to match the always dangerous products of Bill Mahoney and his SSSF crew?  Last but not least, Matt Doherty of Team Pradal Serey will be looking to upset Josh Bourque of Cage Strikers.  Bourque is known to the MMA community and fans to be an exciting fighter at the very least as he always keeps the pace fast and fights action packed while Team Pradal Serey Head Coach, Kru Saroeum Phoung, is always looking to challenge his fighters and prepares Doherty for the contest!  All this plus much more as we are just one week away from this great event at the DCU Center Exhibition Hall on May 20th!  For tickets and more information please visit:
