AFO Perfect Storm 9/16/2011 Review

Yes the WAVE did happen!!

We arrived at the Wonderland Ballroom in Revere right around 8pm.  We eventually got in and found our spot and really there isn't a bad seat in the house.  I sat in my little corner in a comfy leather chair and enjoyed a great night of fights.  Many fighters were there.  I saw Doomsday, Sam Nadeau, Spider Almeida to name a few.  Yes, I know you all were wondering, the Leather Jacket was seen walking around throughout the night.  Talked with Old School for a bit and we all were having a blast.  The DJ was DJ Hurrakayne who did a great job even if he was harrassing me for not saying Hi to him.  We got a solid night of 10 fights.  I am sure you all heard that the Ricardo Georges vs. Ralph Johnson fight was cancelled by the commission on medical paper issues.  We were all excited about that one but its OK we won't let it ruin our night of MMA crazy action!

Pete Czymbor getting the crowd pumped!!

Fight 1: Cody Platner(CNYMMA) Vs Nick Logan(Dough Boy)

Platner comes out to X-ectutioners It's Going Down and  Logan comes out to Alter Bridge-Metalingus.  They come out and Logan ends up taking Cody's back.  He is in full mount and trying to soften him up.  The ref is forced to stop due to strikes.

Nick Logan defeats Cody Platner via ref stoppage due to strikes 1:08 seconds rd 1.  Logan looked impressive and a beast of a wrestler.

Fight 2: Tunde Odumusu(TUML) Vs. Nicc Kossivas(Doomsday)

Tunde comes out to Ludacris-Get Back and Nicc came out to T.I.-Bring Em Out.  Both fighters are exchanging kicks.  Nicc does a nice roundhouse kick to the body.  They get in a few punches and Nicc ends up getting a double leg takedown as the round ends.

Nicc 10-9

Rd2: Nicc misses with a front kick.  Nicc goes for another takedown but is stuffed.  Nicc pulls guard and eventually gets the takedown and rolls into a nice armbar.  Tunde fights it for a bit but is forced to tap.

Fight 3:  Chris Tier(CNYMMA) Vs. Nathan Oses(BMAC)

Tier comes out to Johnny Cash-God's Gonna Cut You Down and Oses comes out to  DMX-Bring Your Whole Crew.  Both fighters are swinging.  They both are getting in their fair share of jabs.  Oses gets in a few leg kicks.  Oses is getting in some nice combos but Tier is a tough kid and handles them all.  They end up clinching by the cage and Oses gets the takedown.  Oses is working the top in guard.  They battle for position as the round ends.

Oses 10-9

Rd 2: Oses starts us off with a leg kick.  Tier goes for a takedown.  They sprawl and Oses lunges forward to take the top in the guard position.  Oses does a little ground and pound.  Oses gets bucked off and he then takes the back of Tier as the round ends.

Oses 10-9

Rd 3: They go to touch gloves and Oses flips the bird.  They are both pretty heated and it was showing.  They were exchanging huge knockout punches.  Eventually Oses gets caught leaning forward and gets rocked with a punch and goes down.  Tier covers and lays down bombs but Oses weathers the storm and gets back to his feet.  They continue to stand and bang til the round ends.  What a fight!!

Nate Oses defeats Chris Tier via unanimous decision 29-28.

Fight 4: Luis Ramos(AFT/Gladiador) Vs Kin Moy(Redline)

Moy comes out to Foo Fighters-The Pretender. I missed Luis's song, sorry Luis!!

Kin gets in a kick and a punch and Ramos goes for the takedown and gets it.  They get right back up.  Luis gets another slamming takedown.  He ends up standing and getting in a few jabs.  Luis is controlling on top.  Kin uses the cage and gets up.  Kin gets in a few kicks.  Ramos lays down and Kin gets in a nice punch.  Ramos defends off the ground as Kin lays down dropping some bombs.  This round went very fast and I am sure I missed some things so sorry guys!

Ramos 10-9 because of the takedowns but very close round.

Rd 2: They clinch and Ramos ends up getting a takedown via a trip and Ramos is on top.  Ramos controls and gets some ground and pound but Kin is defending well.  Kin uses the fence to get up but Ramos is controlling the hips and gets another slamming takedown.  Ramos is in Kin's guard Kin gets Ramos in a triangle and Ramos fights it but, eventually the ref is forced to stop it.  What a great battle of standup vs wrestler!!

Kin Moy defeats Luis Ramos via triangle in 1:47 seconds in rd 2.

Grappling match

Mandracchia's opponent Christian Rivera was stuck on a boat.  No, seriously he was, works on a boat and was unable to make weigh ins but George Wilson from AFT/Gladiador stepped in for a grappling match!

George Wilson  comes out to Tiney Tempah-Written In The Stars and Mandracchia comes out to  Fight Smash Win by Street Sweeper Social Club.  Both guys fought hard and both showed off their grappling skills.  Fred was caught in a guilliotine but got out of it.  George was working a rear naked choke as the match ended, wasn't threatening yet.  It was a fighting exhibition match and I believe it was submission only to win.  Saul The Spider Almeida special guest reffed it!!  Thanks for the nice match guys!!

Nate Oses went into the cage and apologized for the mishap at the beginning of round 3.  I fully forgive you Nate!  I do believe that is not you and you will learn from this bud!!

Fight 5: V. Phinney(North Shore Martial Arts) vs Tony Bernardi(Redline)

V Phinney comes out to Ozzy Osbourne-Crazy Train which coincidentally Ozzy was in the house...or maybe it was his body double. Anyways he was enjoying the fights and having a blast. Tony comes out to a heavy metal song.

Phinney ends up getting the takedown but ends up on bottom and Tony is controlling the fight from the side.  Tony stands up and drops a bomb and goes right back to work in the guard.  Rest of the round is on the ground.

Bernardi 10-9, very close round

Rd 2: Phinney ends up getting takedown via a trip but Tony ends up on top this time.  The rest of the round is both fighters struggling for position.

Bernardi 10-9, again very close round

Rd 3: They both stand and exchange for half a minute and then Bernardi ends up going for a takedown and gets it.  Bernardi is controlling the top in guard.  He stands up and decides to go back to work on the ground in guard.  They both work for position and Bernardi ends up getting in a good ground and pound punches as the round ends.  Phinney is slow to get up so the doctor checks him out.  Looks like they were looking at his ankle area.  He is helped up by the doctors.

Bernardi 10-9

Tony Bernardi defeats V. Phinney via unanimous decision.

Fight 6: James Lajoie (CNYMMA) 0-2 vs Brett Braxton 0-1 (AMAC)
LaJoie comes out to Motley Crue-Kickstart my Heart and Braxton comes out to LL Cool J-Mama Said Knock You Out.

These guys go right at it.  Braxton gets in a good right hand and  ends up geting a guilliotine choke.  Lajoie hangs on and gets a slamming takdedown and is controlling the side.  Brett rolls out and is using the cage to get up.  James ends up getting another slamming takedown and ends up taking the back.  Brett shakes him off and they are now in the sprawl position.  Brett gets in some punches and they stand up.  Brett puts on a guilliotine but James punches his way out.  They stand and Brett gets in a HUGE ko punch and James wobbles down out for a second and the ref stops it.

Brett Braxton defeats James LaJoie via KO punch in 2:41 seconds Rd 1 stopped by John English.  Guess his mama was right when she told him to knock him out.  Great way to bounce back Brett.  Tough night for CNYMMA but they are a great team, just wasn't their night.

Intermission.

Lee Beane unfortunately got hurt so Randy Smith is fighting a new opponent in October.

Fight 7: Kody Nordby(Allaire) 2-0 vs Matt Doherty (TPS) 3-3
Nordby comes out to Build Me Up Buttercup which mixes into Country Boy Can Survive.  Doherty comes out to Metallica-Wherever I May Roam with an entourage of like 20 TPS guys LOL.  I don't think the commission will like that too much guys haha.  Doherty has a big fan base here.  Onto the fight!

They touch gloves and end up clinching near the cage.  They both are punching hard.  Kody ends up getting in a knee to the body.  Matt gets in a good right hand.  Kody defends right back.  Matt gets in a kick and Kody counters with a right hand.  Matt misses with a right and Kody goes for a single leg takedown.  Matt gets a guilliotine and Kody pops out and does some ground and pound til the round ends.  Very tough fight but I give the slight edge to Kody due to the takedown.  Really could go either way.

Nordby 10-9

Rd 2: They both come out swinging.  Kody ends up going for a single leg takedown and gets it.  Kody is in guard and Matt threatens with a submission but Kody slams and ends up getting out of it.  Matt gets half butterfly guard and pushes off and they both stand up using the cage.  Kody is working a takedown up against the cage.  Kody takes both legs and ends up getting the takedown.  Kody ends up on top in guard as the round ends.

Nordby 10-9.

Rd 3: They both exchange some big right hands and Kody goes for a takedown.  He ends up getting a double leg takedown.  Kody is working the guard but Matt does a great job at defending from the bottom and Kody really cannot do to much.  They battle it out and Kody ends up taking the side.    Matt sweeps out and  stands up and they swing it out as the round ends. Huge war!!

Nordby 10-9

Kody Nordby defeats Matt Doherty via unanimous decision 29-28, 30-27.  This is fight of the night material and definitely lived up to the buzz that was going around the interweb and our site.  Doherty fighting after just losing his dad, God bless him, you got great heart Doherty.  Keep up the good work.  Congrats to Kody on grinding out the win.  Wrestling wins fights, plain and simple. I see people online talking about a great matchup and I like it, Dan Cormier Vs. Kody Nordby.  Work on that Pete!!

Fight 8: Virgil Stone(CNYMMA) vs. Joe Cloutier(Doomsday)

Stone comes out to Rob Zombie  remix of More Human Than Human..Love that song!!  Cloutier comes out to Creed-My Sacrifice.  Most people will not admit that they enjoy Creed but I do!!  Point to be made this is Cloutier's fourth weight class he has fought in, although it ended being a catchweight .

Sorry I missed the beginning of the fight but Cloutier ended up getting a takedown and was controlling most of the round.

Cloutier 10-9

Rd 2: They both come out swinging.  Cloutier got hit with some good punches but gave a nice knee to the head.  They clinch and push up against the cage.  Cloutier ends up getting the takedown and is now in the guard.  Cloutier gets in some punches ot the body, controlling his opponent on top.  Cloutier backs off and stands up as the round ends.

Cloutier 10-9

Rd 3: Both fighters clinch and go to the ground.  20 seconds later they are back up and sprawl again resulting in both guys going down.  Stone is on top and the ref stands em up.  They clinch  and Cloutier gets the takedown and is on top as the round finishes.

Cloutier 10-9 very close round

Joe Cloutier defeats Virgil Stone via unanimous decision 30-27, 29-28.

Fight 9: Shawn Summey(Dragon's Lair) Vs. Louis Torres(TPS)

Summey comes out to Ghostface Killah-The Champ and Torres comes out to Metallica-Seek and Destroy.
They are both standing and Summey gets in a big right hand which drops Torres.  It was tough to see if he was knocked out or not but he was definitely rocked .  The ref jumped in and Summey backed off.   Close call perhaps could have went a little longer.

Shawn Summey defeats Louis Torres via ref stoppage to KO punch 18 seconds in rd 1.

Fight 10: Lee Metcalf 4-3 (SSS) vs Rodrigo Almeida 8-2 (Waikru)
Metacalf came out to a rap song, I did not catch the name and Almeida came out to DJ Batata -Aquecimento 50 cent.  Very different but I liked it Almeida.  Almeida comes out in the shiniest shorts I have ever seen.  Very Nice!!!(Borat voice)

Metcalf gets the slamming takedown.  Almeida has a guillitione and Metcalf fights it and picks up Almeida and slams him down.  Lee pops his head out .  Almeida uses the cage and they stand up.  They both fall to the ground and Lee is on top controlling.  They stand up and  clinch up against the cage.  Almeida slides on a slick modified guillitione and they fall to the ground.  I don't think Lee tapped and the ref was forced to stop it.

Rodrigo Almeida defeats Lee Metcalf via ref stoppage to modified guilliotine in 4:35 in Rd 1.
