Chattelle, Oteri ready to battle next month in CES’ inaugural championship bout
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Oct. 20, 2011) – Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment & Sports’ mixed martial arts division is about to add another chapter to a historic year of firsts.
Todd “The Hulk” Chattelle of Pawtucket, R.I., will face veteran Brett Oteri of Taunton, Mass., on Friday, Nov. 18, 2011 for the CES MMA middleweight title in the five-round main event of “Undisputed” at the Twin River Event Center in Lincoln, R.I. The winner will walk away as the first champion in CES MMA history.
“This is the biggest fight of my life,” Chattelle said. “Back when I was seven or eight years old I used to wrestle with my brothers for cardboard belts. This is what I’ve been dreaming of my whole life. Hands down, this is the biggest title you can get around here with the biggest promotion in New England.”
“He’s pretty much a wrestler. He likes to take guys down,” Chattelle said of Oteri, “so I’m anti-Brett Oteri. I want to knock him out.”
The co-feature of “Undisputed” pits two of Rhode Island’s top lightweights against one another – Mike “The Beast” Campbell (9-4, 6 KOs) of Providence and Lincoln’s Jeff Anderson (10-4, 2 KOs). Campbell is looking to get back on track following a knockout loss to Tony Hervey in April while Anderson is in search of his third consecutive win; he beat Damien Trites by split decision at Twin River in June and followed that with another split-decision victory over John Ortolani in New Hampshire a month later.
“Once again, we’re bringing you a show that’ll leave you walking away wondering when the next event will be,” Burchfield said. “There are hundreds of title fights around the world, but few feature fighters who are truly deserving of being called champions. Todd Chattelle and Brett Oteri are true champions. Todd has emerged as one of the most feared middleweights in the region, and Brett is a takedown specialist who offers an intriguing contrast in style.
“With Mike Campbell facing Jeff Anderson, you’ve got two fighters willing to battle anyone at any given time. Mike is capable of ruining anyone’s night with just one punch, and Jeff is the kind of gritty, pesky fighter who will wear you down over the course of three rounds. Again, we’ve got two contrasting styles butting heads in what should make for a tremendous battle of wills.

“Undisputed” also features a middleweight showdown between Keith Jeffrey (5-2-1) of Pawtucket, R.I., and New York native Kevin Horowitz (3-3). Jeffrey will step back into the cage for the first time since losing to Brazilian Gabriel Santos in October of 2010; Horowitz first appeared at Twin River in February, beating Rigo Dominicci via first-round submission, before losing toOzzy Dugulubgov in May. Featherweight Pedro Gonzalez (7-4) of Rockport, Mass., will face veteran striker Jason McLean (6-4, 2 KOs) of Perthamboy, N.J. Among McLean’s most notable fights is a split-decision victory over Kevin Roddy on the undercard of Strikeforce’s “Fedor vs. Silva” show in February. Gonzalez last fought in May, beating Paul Gorman by unanimous decision.
CES’ most recent acquisition, Saul “The Spider” Almeida, will also return to the cage Nov. 18 for the first time since an impressive unanimous-decision win over highly-rated featherweightTateki Matsuda at the Bellator Fighting Championships in August. Almeida, fighting out of the Dragon’s Liar in Framingham, Mass., is now 10-1 and has won three consecutive fights.
The undercard of “Undisputed” will also feature lightweight Dinis Paiva Jr. (1-1, 1 KO) of East Providence, R.I.; featherweight Shaun Marmus (3-2-1, 1 KO) of Coventry, R.I.; heavyweightErik Bedard (2-0, 1 KO) of Providence; and featherweight Robbie Leroux (3-1, 1 KO) of Bridgewater, Mass., a member of the National Guard and former Rhode Island College wrestling standout who served eight months overseas in Iraq from September of 2008 to April of 2009.
