CES adds veteran Campbell
to its stacked lineup for June mixed martial arts show
PROVIDENCE,
R.I. (June 1st, 2012) – The lineup has changed, but
Classic Entertainment & Sports’ upcoming mixed martial arts show remains
the must-see event of the summer.
Pawtucket, R.I., middleweight Todd “The Hulk” Chattelle has been
forced to withdraw from the show due to injury, so the main event Friday, June 15th, 2012 at the
Twin River Casino in Lincoln, R.I., will now feature fellow Rhode Islander Mike “The Beast” Campbell (10-4, 7 KOs)
of Providence, who is in search of his second consecutive win in his first
fight of 2012.
The 11-fight card, titled
“Proving Grounds,” also features the highly-anticipated co-feature between
Fairfield, Conn., lightweight and Bellator Fighting Championships veteran Ryan Quinn (8-3-1, 2 KOs) and former
M-1 Global title contender Abner
Lloveras (14-6, 1 KO) of Ludlow, Mass., a fight that recently made
Sherdog.com’s worldwide list of the Top 10 Must-See Fights in June.
With the Quinn-Lloveras showdown
threatening to steal the show, “Proving Grounds” also boasts a dynamic
featherweight battle between Wai Kru veteran Calvin Kattar (12-2, 7 KOs) of Methuen, Mass., and Chris Foster (4-2, 2 KOs) of the Lion’s
Den in Middletown, Conn., in addition to the return of rising CES bantamweight Andre Soukhamthath (1-1) of Woonsocket,
R.I., who will face Pomfret, Conn., veteran Jon Marchettere (0-2).
Featherweight Nate Andrews of Cranston, R.I., will
make his professional debut against Pedro
da Silva (1-3, 1 KO) of Boston; Jay
Bakanowski (1-0) of Scituate, R.I., will battle unbeaten welterweight Leon Davis (2-0) of Springfield, Mass.;
and newcomer Billy Giovanella of
Bellingham, Mass., will debut against Gilvan
Santos (1-2) of Framingham, Mass., in a three-round bantamweight bout.
“Proving Grounds” also features a three-round welterweight battle between
undefeated Nick Drummond (3-0, 1 KO)
of Boston and newcomer Sergii Musiienko
of Framingham; a middleweight showdown between Bob Burton (2-1) of Brockton, Mass., and Boulder, Colo., native Chandler Holderness (8-3, 3 KOs); and a
welterweight matchup between Pawtucket’s Keith
Jeffrey (7-2-1) and Harley Beekman
(4-1, 2 KOs) of Amsterdam, N.Y. Lightweight Joe Pingitore (1-0, 1 KO) of Cranston will also be featured in a
separate three-round bout.
Tickets for “Proving Grounds” are
$35.00, $55.00, $100.00 and $125.00 and can be purchased by calling CES at
401.724.2253/2254, online at www.cesmma.com or www.twinriver.com, at the
Players Club booth at Twin River, or through any TicketMaster location. Doors
open 6 p.m. with the first bout scheduled for 7.
The 29-year-old Campbell, a
former competitor on the World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) and Reality Fighting
circuits, is aiming for back-to-back wins for the first time since 2010. He
bounced back from his loss to Tony
Hervey with a first-round knockout win over Lincoln’s Jeff Anderson in November.
The Lloveras-Quinn showdown
promises to be a classic striker vs. grappler matchup with Lloveras, a gold
medalist in the Spanish Olympic boxing tournament in 2010, searching for the
sixth knockout of his career against the grappler Quinn, who is coming off a unanimous-decision
win over “The Ultimate Fighter” reality television series alum Marc Stevens in March and has won five
of his last seven bouts, including one loss and one draw. Among Quinn’s
victories during that stretch is a unanimous-decision win over
previously-unbeaten Dhiego Lima in
October of 2010. Lloveras has won nine of 11 bouts dating back to 2009.
Kattar, nicknamed “The Boston
Finisher,” has lived up to that moniker, going the distance only three times in
his 12 victories. He has six knockouts and three submissions on his record and
has now won four consecutive bouts. This will be Foster’s toughest test to
date; he snapped a stretch of two losses in three bouts with a win over veteran
Kevin Roddy in April of 2011 and has
only fought once in the last two and a half years.

Grounds” and all of CES’ upcoming shows, visit www.cesmma.com.
