New England Fights Fight Night XI 11/9/2013 Teaser

NEF is back this Saturday with another packed fight card.  This show will be held in Lewiston Maine at the Colisee.  This will be their last show of the year so expect them and their fighters to end this year with a bang!  Tickets are still available starting at just $10 available here.  They have a total of 16 fights with 5 of them being pro.  Also the last two fights of the evening will be for title fights which is sure to have fans on the edge of their seat.  Another feature on the card that will keep the Maine-iacs happy is a female bout featuring Maria Rios and Shannon Harney.  One thing I want to note is that the doors open at 6PM and the first fight starts at 7pm.  NEF wanted to let everyone know that some of the ticket times were wrong.  As always thanks to NEF for keeping us in the loop on their fight card and information.

185 Mike Vangelist 0-0 (AMMA) vs Crowsneck Boutin 3-5 (Choi's)

At 185lbs Mike Vangelist takes on Crowsneck Boutin.  Mike is from AMMA and will be making his amateur debut.  Crowsneck comes into this bout with a 3-5 record and is training with Choi's MMA.  He is no stranger to NEF.  In fact this is 8th time fighting for them.  That has to a record!  He has won two by ref stoppages to strikes and one by decision.  He is on a 3 fight losing streak and is looking to break that streak this Saturday.  He is a crazy dude and is always entertaining to watch.  One thing that could be a factor in this fight is that Mike is making his ammy debut and Crowsneck has much more experience.  We will have o wait and see if this plays a major factor.

125 Mike Brown 2-0 (Independent) vs Norman Fox 1-0 (MMA Athletix)

For a 125lb bout Mike Brown takes on Norman Fox.  Mike is an independent fighter and has a 2-0 record.  He won his first two bouts by submissions early in round 1 and certainly does not look like the typical independent unpolished fighter.  Norman is 1-0 and fights out of MMA Athletix.  He has a win over Dustin Venoit via ref stoppage to strikes early in rd 1 so they both have that common opponent.  I feel this one is going to be a ground battle and I think it is going to end early and not go the distance.

125 Maria Rios 3-1 (AMMA) vs Shannon Harney 2-4 (Independent)

Next up is the female fight between Maria Rios and Shannon Harney.  Maria has fought all of her fights for NEF and is 3-1.  She is from AMMA and is looking for her 4th victory.  She has one one fight by submission and two others by ref stoppage to strikes.  In her last fight, she suffered her first loss by decision to Valeria Aspaas.  Her opponent Shannon is an independent fighter and has a 2-4 record.   She has fought for a while but most recently fought Erin Cooney at Cage Titans on October 19th.  She lost by submission to strikes and it looked to me like her eye was bothering her.  I am glad to see she healed up and is cleared to fight Maria.  I think this is going to be an awesome fight for the fans if the ladies keep it standing and start swinging.  I give the slight edge to Maria Rios and she will be the hometown favorite in this one.

125 Trevor Hebert 1-2 (First Class MMA) vs Kevin Barrett 1-1(Young’s MMA)

Trevor Hebert takes on Kevin Barrett at 125lbs.  Trevor is from First Class MMA and comes into this fight with a 1-2 record.  He has lost one fight by submission and one by ref stoppage to strikes.  He has one win by ref stoppage to strikes against Stephen Desjardins.  His opponent Kevin  has a 1-1 record and is from Young's MMA.  He has lost one fight by submission and won one fight by submission.  This is going to be another good 125lb battle up in Maine and this is as closely matched as they come.

145 Carl Langston 2-1 (Balanced Ground) vs Mike Pietersen 0-0 (Young’s MMA)

Carl Langston meets Mike Pietersen in the cage at 145lbs.  Carl is from Balanced Ground MMA and comes into this fight with a 2-1 record.  I was not able to find any information on Carl.  Sorry folks.  Mike is from Young's MMA and will be making his amateur debut.  I am excited for this fight since I have not seen either of them fight.

145 Jimmy Jackson 1-1 (Young’s MMA) vs Caleb Costello 0-2 (Team Irish)

Jimmy Jackson fights Caleb Costello at 145lbs.  Jimmy is from Young's MMA and comes into this battle with a 1-1 record.  He has won one fight by submission and lost one by submission.  Caleb is from Team Irish and is still hungry for his first amateur victory.  He has an 0-2 record and lost both fights by decision.  Two great schools going head to head should make this a great battle.

145 Caleb Hall 3-0 (Independent) vs Aaron Lacey 1-0 (Young’s MMA)

At 145lbs Caleb Hall takes on Aaron Lacey.  Caleb is an independent fighter and comes into this fight with a perfect 3-0 record.  He won one fight by submission and two fights by ref stoppage to strikes.  His opponent Aaron is from Young's MMA and has a 1-0 record.  He won his only fight against Jared Laganas by submission at Coliseum to the Cage back in October of 2012.  This is going to be an awesome battle and definitely could be potential for fight of the night.

145 Dom Cofone 4-2 (Balanced Ground) vs Vovka Clay 5-2 (Triumph)

At 145lbs Dom Cofone takes on Vovka Clay.  Dom is from Balanced Ground MMA and has a 4-2 record.  He has won 2 fights by submission, one by decision and one by knockout.  He lost a split decision to Kirk Florian and his last fight he was choked unconscious by Mark Graham.  He is a very entertaining fighter.  His opponent Vovka is from Triumph MMA and has a 5-2 record.  He has won four out of his 5 fights by submission and his other win was by tko stoppage to strikes.  For his two losses he lost one by submission and another by decision.  This fight is going to be an awesome one.  Two ranked guys going head to head for all the Maine-iacs.  I definitely think this one is going to be settled on the ground.

150 Nate Charles 1-6 (Balanced Ground) vs Corey Hinkley 1-1 (CMBJJ)

At a catch weight of 150lbs Nate Charles will take on Corey Hinkley.  Nate is from Balanced Ground MMA and has a 1-6 record.  Nate has lost 2 by decision 2 by submission and 2 by tko stoppage to strikes.  His big win came via knockout back at NEF V.  He will be looking for the knockout or a knockdown so he can take advantage on the ground.  Corey is from CMBJJ and comes into this fight with a 1-1 record.  He lost a tko stoppage to strikes to Caleb Hall.  He then bounced back and won a submission against Jimmy Jackson.  I am hoping this fight will be kept standing for a bit because I think it would be real entertaining for the fans.

160 Jeremy Tyler 2-1 (Team Irish) vs Tollison Lewis 4-8 (Balanced Ground)

Next up is Jeremy Tyler taking on Tollison Lewis at 160lbs.  Jeremy is from Team Irish and has a 2-1 record.  Jeremy fought Tollison twice so this one is the 3rd battle.  Jeremy lost his first fight to Tolly by submission.  He then bounced back and won the second fight by submission.  In his last fight he won by kimura against Shawn Bang.  Tollison is from Balanced Ground and comes into this fight with a 4-8 record.  Tollison has lost most of his losses by submissions or decisions.  He has two submission victories of his own and also has won two fights by way of the fist.  In his last fight he won by a knockout against Matt Denning that stunned the crowd.  I don't necessarily agree with amateur fighters rematching this many of times but as a fan I am excited about seeing these two fighters throwing down once again.  Who do you see winning this one?

165 Wayne Ahlquist 2-5 (Lakes Region Vale Tudo) vs CJ Ewer 3-0 (Young’s MMA)

Wayne Ahlquist takes on CJ Ewer at 165lbs.  Wayne is from Lakes Region Vale Tudo and has a 2-5 record.  He has lost his fights by 2 by submission, 1 by ko, 1 ref stoppage to strikes and one by decision.  He has won one by decision and one by ref stoppage to strikes.  CJ is from Young's MMA and has a 3-0 record.  He has won one by submission, tko stoppage to strikes and one by decision.  He looks more impressive every time he steps into the cage which is exactly the way it should be.  I don't see this fight going to decision and it is a great match up for both fighters.

150 Bruce Boyington 3-6 (Young’s MMA) vs Josh Parker 4-7 (Independent)

For the first pro fight of the evening Bruce Boyington will fight Josh Parker.  Bruce is no stranger to NEF and is from Young's MMA.  He has a 3-6 record and has one of the greatest local knockouts in history.  He has struggled recently with his only win coming in his last five fights against Asa Zorn.  His last fight against Walter Cotito he was winning and ended up losing via rear naked choke near the end of Rd 1.  He will be ready for a W for sure!  Josh is an independent fighter and has a 4-7 record.  He has lost his last 2 bouts by submissions.  Like Bruce, he is very entertaining to watch and always comes ready for a battle.  I feel this fight is going to be awesome for the fans.  Both fighters will want to keep this standing and should make for an exciting battle.

160 Jesse Erickson 1-1 (CMBJJ) vs Ryan Cowette 0-2 (MMA Athletix)

Jesse Erickson will be fighting Ryan Cowette at a catchweight of 160lbs.  Jesse is from CMBJJ and has a 1-1 record.  He lost his first pro fight on Bellator to Jon Lemke via tko stoppage to strikes.  He bounced back with a submission victory over Josh Parker.  He was scheduled to fight at the last NEF but his opponent forgot to show up to weigh ins but this one is going to happen folks!  I love seeing Jesse fight because he is so damn good on the ground and pulls off some slick submissions.  He has a tough match up against Ryan here.  Ryan is the head of MMA Athletix and has an 0-2 record.  He lost his first pro fight to Josh Bellows to strikes.  He fought at the last NEF and he was winning the fight with his knees from the clinch until he was caught in a guillotine.  The ref stopped the fight prematurely and we were all surprised seeing it live.  Sure enough the video came out and we were right, there was no tap and Ryan was fine.  No doubt he will be fired up after that loss and bring that intensity to this fight.  In this fight Ryan needs to keep it standing and see if he can wear down Jesse.  Jesse I feel will want to get this fight to the ground and work his submissions.

230 Josh Watson 7-3 (Syndicate) vs Ryan Hodge 5-8 (F-2 Arena)

Next up is Josh Watson taking on Ryan Hodge at 230lbs.  Josh is from Team Syndicate and has a 7-3 record.  He has 5 KO/TKO and 2 submission victories so far in his pro career.  For his losses, he lost 2 by ko/tko and 1 by submissions.  One thing that should be noted is he hasn't fought since 2011 so we will have to see if that plays a factor in this fight.  His opponent Ryan is from F2 Arena and has a 5-8 record.  He has won all 5 of his fights via submissions.  He has lost 4 ko/tko, 1 submission and 2 decisions.  When I first saw Ryan fight I wasn't very impressed because both him and his opponent, Luc Bondole were gassing the entire fight.  Then he fought Cody Anderson and won with an early submission.  Now you got my attention Ryan!  This fight should be a good one and I feel Ryan will want to take this to the ground if he wants that win.  I haven't seen Josh fight but I think he will want to keep it standing and wear down Ryan.

155 *Title John Ortolani 7-7 (Triumph) vs Tony Christodoulou 9-4 (Renzo Gracie)

At 155lbs for the title John Ortolani will fight Tony Christodoulou.  Orto was supposed to fight at the last NEF but like Jesse his opponent didn't want to show up to weigh ins for whatever reason.  He is from Team Triumph and has a 7-7 record.  He has won 4 ko/tko, 1 sub and 2 decisions so far in his pro career.  He has lost the majority of his losses by ko/tko.  One thing about Orto is that he fights tough fights and leaves it all in the cage every time he steps in!  His opponent Tony is from Renzo Gracie and has a 9-4 record.  He hasn't fought around here so it is tough to see how he will match up against our New England guys.  He has 3 ko/tko, 4 sub and 2 decisions in his career.  For his losses, he lost 1 ko/tko, 1 sub and 2 decisions.  As you can see they are very close and well rounded which should make for an epic battle.  I can't say for sure who will win but I will be rooting for the crowd favorite Orto!

135 *Title Paul Gorman 9-8 (AMMA) vs Tateki Matsuda 8-4 (Sityodtong)

For the second title fight and the last fight of the evening, Paul Gorman the champ will defend his belt against Tateki Matsuda.  Paul is from AMMA and has a 9-8 record.  He has 6 Sub and 3 decision victories so far in his pro career.  For his losses, he lost 1 ko/tko, 3 Submissions and 4 decisions.  He won the title back at NEF V with a dominating submission victory over Adam Toussaint.  He has once again another tough fight.  Tateki is from Sityodtong and has an 8-4 record.  He has excellent Muay Thai and almost made the Ultimate Fighter show.  He has 4 KO/tko and 4 decision victories so far in his pro career.  He has lost 3 of his fights by decision and one by a disqualification.  Two of his 3 decision losses were from a split decision so they were very close.  This fight is going to be an awesome one so fight fans don't leave until the end of the fights!  This fight is anyone's fight to win and I feel could go either way.

There you have the complete breakdown of New England Fight's Eleventh installment of fights up in Maine.  It should be a memorable one and it will be their last show of the year.  I am sure they will announce when their next show is and some fights that will be on it as usual.  Warchild will be there taking the photos for us and I will be there with the live play by play.  The Artist will be there handling the video in which he really has been getting better and better each time.  For us in Massachusetts it is a 3.5 hour drive but it is well worth it!  Tell us what fight you are most excited about?  See you all there and make sure to say Hello.
