June 20, 2014
Victory is hosting their 6th event in downtown Boston in a place called the Club Royal tonight, June 20th. I just got an updated fight card and quickly wrote this up for you all. The doors open at 5pm so I am guessing the show starts around 6pm. The card features a mix of amateur and pro fights and some of them will be filmed for NESN and Comcast. There are 8 total fights and 6 of them are professional fights. At the show there will be complimentary tattoos being raffled off and if you get one of the two Victory tattoos they are promising free admission for life to Victory shows. The After Party will be held at Club Cure hosted by Sailor Jerry at 246 Tremont St in Boston just a little bit before the Club Royale. Let me quickly break down the card for you all.
145 lbs AM Joshua Greenlaw (0-1) vs Ibrahim Farag (0-0 Elite Plus)
The first fight is for 145lbs and is between Josh Greenlaw and Ibrahim Farag. Greenlaw has an 0-1 record with one loss to Aaron Lacey by ko/tko in Rd 1. He is still hungry for his first taste of victory in the cage. His opponent Ibrahim is from Elite Plus out of New York and he will be making his amateur debut. This is a great opening fight to start off what should be a great night of fights.
135 lbs AM Ali Zebian (3-0 FAA Springfield) vs. Timothy Wheeler (0-0 Elite Plus MMA)
Then at 135lbs Ali Zebian takes on Timothy Wheeler. Ali is from Fighting Arts Academy in Springfield and has a 3-0 record. He has won all 3 of his fights by ko/tko stoppages which shows you he doesn't like to let the fights come down to a decision! His opponent Tim Wheeler will be making his amateur debut and is from Elite Plus MMA. If you are keeping track that is 2 fighters from Elite Plus MMA. Tim is giving up a lot of experience in this fight and I hope he is ready to face the hands of Mr. Zebian!
155lbs PRO Brendan Rooney (5-2 C3 Athletics) vs Mitch Peterson (Edge MMA 1-1)
For the first pro fight at 155lbs Brendan Rooney is facing Mitch Peterson. Brendan is from C3 Atheltics and has a 5-2 record. He has 4 submissions wins and one decision so far in his career. He lost one fight by ko/tko and one by decision. His opponent Mitch Peterson, has one loss by submission and one win by submission so far in his pro career. He trains out of Edge MMA and Fitness. This is going to be a ground battle for sure and should be a fast paced fight.
185lbs PRO Nick Lavin (C3 Atheltics 0-0) vs Ralph Johnson (Independent 6-12)
Next up Nick Lavin faces off against Ralph Johnson at 185lbs. Nick is from C3 Athletics and will be making his pro debut. Being from C3 Athletics I know he will be very well versed on the ground which could spell trouble for Ralph. Ralph is an independent fighter and has a 6-12 record. Ralph has killer hands and knees and has won all of his wins by ko/tko. For his losses, he lost the majority of them by submission. Ralph is never in a boring fight. He will be looking to use his height to get the KO and keep his distance. This is another exciting fight on the Victory Card.
HWT PRO Mark Griffin (5-3-1) vs Steve Edwards (Black and Blue MMA 2-1)
In the heavyweight fight Mark Griffin takes on Steve Edwards. Mark enters this fight with a 5-3-1 record. He has all 5 of his wins by ko/tko stoppage to strikes. He has one draw, two losses by ko/tko and one by majority decision. I have never seen Mark fight so I am anxious to see this one. His opponent Steve has a 2-1 record. Steve is from Black and Blue MMA and both of his wins came by submission. His sole loss came by ko/tko and he fights out of New York. This has all the pieces to be a fight of the night. With the heavies in the cage expect big knockout punches.
155lbs PRO Bekzod Abdurakhmonoz (Sityodtong 5-0) vs Marcel Goncalves (3-1)
Next up at 155lbs, Bekzod Abdurakhmonoz takes on Marcel Goncalves. Bekzod has a 5-0 record and is from Sityodtong. He has 3 wins by submission and 2 by ko/tko. I saw his last fight against Andrew Osborne and he picked up right where he left off from 2013. He had an excellent ground game and was able to get the quick takedowns. His opponent Marcel has a 3-1 record. All 3 of his wins came by way of submission and he has fought for Bellator in his career. He lost his last fight by ko/tko in 2013 and will be looking to come in and make a statement. This is another close battle and both fighters appear to be very comfortable on the ground which should make for an exciting battle.
170lbs PRO Jesse Merritt (Anubis 3-1) vs Nolan Norwood (Westside MMA 7-2)
At 170lbs Jesse Merrit challenges Nolan Norwood in the cage. Jesse has a 3-1 and fights out of Team Anubis. He has one decision and two ko/tko victories. His only loss came as a unanimous decision to Shawn Baker at a previous Cage Titans show. He has fought some tough fighters in the past and this one is going to be tough as well. Nolan has a 7-2 record and fights out of Westside MMA. I was not able to find all of his fight info but he has two ko/tko victories and one by split decision. One of his losses came by submission. As you can see both of these guys have heavy hands so this should be another great one. Don't blink on this one!
205lbs PRO Kevin Haley (Anubis 3-1) vs Jesse McElligott (Connor's MMA 4-1)
The main event is between Kevin Haley and Jesse McElligott at 205lbs. Kevin is from team Anubis and has a 3-1 record. He has one win by DQ, one by ko/tko and one by submission. His only loss came to Mark Griffin at a previous CFX show by ko/tko in Round 3. He is very well rounded and will be looking to take home that W any way possible. His opponent Jesse is from Connor's MMA and has a 4-1 record. He has 2 wins by ko/tko, 1 sub and 1 decision victory so far in his pro career. His only loss came to Josh Hendricks at a Combat Zone show by decision. Both fighters are extremely well rounded which should make for a super close battle.
As you can see Victory Combat Sports is finding their niche and really putting together top notch shows. They are doing it right down in downtown Boston and many of the fights will be televised. Their last show in New York had 3 tiers of mma fans packed in the place! Tickets are still on sale and start at $32 bux at the link here. Warchild and I will be making the trip east and will be capturing all the action for you all. If you have never been to a Victory show, then take the time to come check it out. I know I will be!
