CAGE TITANS XXVI 11/7/2015 EVENT REVIEW


We arrived at the venue and fight fans were lining up out the door to get inside to see the carnage.  Warchild and I quickly made it in and walked through the hallway where the shirts are flying off the tables being sold.  We walked down the stairs and many fight fans were gathered in the hall anxiously awaiting the fights to begin.  Harry Jones is the announcer for the evening.  There are a total of 18 fights and there are many newcomers making their amateur debut.  Rich O is the head photographer for the night and our photographer is Warchild.  Bridget Lally started us off with the national anthem.  The refs are Kevin MacDonald and Gary.  Follow along with me as we recap the night.


125 AM Jared York (0-0, TriForce) vs Tim Hagan (0-0, Nostos)

Jared starts us off with some leg kicks.  Tim fires back and gets hit in the cup.  He takes a few minutes and fight resumes.  Jared connects with a combo.  Tim connects with a counter of his own.  Jared connects with another combo.  Tim comes back with some knees to the body and knocks Jared to the mat.  They roll and they are back to their feet.  Jared misses with a punch and Tim fires back with a right.  Tim gets in a few more knees and Jared is hurt.  The ref stops the fight.

Tim Hagan defeats Jared York via tko stoppage to strikes at 2:57 in Rd 1.







155 AM Derek Trahan (0-0, Santos BJJ) vs Alex Dolan (0-1, Victory)

Derek gets the quick takedown.  He can't get a good position and Alex bounces right back up.  Derek scoops him up and slams him to the mat.  He works a guillotine as Alex is standing back up and sinks it in for the tap.

135 AM Andres Rodriguez (2-1, Sityodtong) vs Rob Rios (2-3, Underdog)

Andres starts us off with a kick to the body.  Andres gets in another leg kick and Rob counters with one of his own.  Andres gets in a few punches and quickly ducks out.  A little blood is coming from teh side of Rob's left eye.  Andres gets hit in the cup and he takes a few minutes and the fight resumes.  Andres connects with another leg kick as the round ends.

Rodriguez 10-9

Rd 2:  Andres starts the round off with a right hand.  Rob connects with a punch to the body.  Rob connects with a kick to the body.  Both fighters are exchanging kicks an Andres gets hit in the cup again.  He takes about 30 seconds and the action is back on.  Rob connects with a punch and Andres counters with a kick to the body.

Rios 10-9

Rd 3:  Andres connects with 3 kicks to the body.  Andres catches Rob and gets the takedown.  He is in the guard and gets pushed off.  He lets Rob back up and Rob gets in a few knees to the body.  Andres gets in a knee to the body of his own.  Rob comes forward and Andres pushes him back with a right.  Rob keeps coming forward and Andres is countering nicely.

Andres 10-9  Real close round, could go either way

Andres Rodriguez defeats Rob Rios via unanimous decision, 30-27.  The crowd boos and I am surprised they gave Andres all 3 rounds.






135 AM Jessie Pires (1-7, Team BKJA) vs John Payne (1-2, Lauzon)

John throws one punch that connects and then goes for a takedown.  He gets it and is in the guard of Jessie.  Jessie is keeping John's hands tied so he can't do much damage.  Jessie gets some space and John is pressing Jessie up against the cage as the round ends.

Payne 10-9

Rd 2:  Jessie tries for a few head kicks.  John grabs Jessie and Jessie slams him to the mat.  He is in half guard and John gets the sweep.  John is now in the guard of Jessie.  Jessie is looking for the triangle and John picks him up and slams him to the mat.  Jessie sinks it in deeper and gets the tap.

Jessie Pires defeats John Payne via tapout to triangle at 2:52 in Rd 2.  Just gotta give a shout out to John Payne for getting in the cage at 50 years old!






185 AM Sean Stone (0-0, WMMA) vs Sean Bettencourt (1-1, Victory)

Stone goes for the takedown and Bettencourt flips him over.  Stone goes for another takedown and gets the slam.  Stone is now in half guard and getting in some shots to the body.  He passes to full mount and has the back.  He gets pushed off and goes for an arm but is too far down.  Bettencourt makes him pay with a knee to the body.  Stone gets another takedown and is firing knees to the side as the round ends.

Stone 10-9

Rd 2:  Stone ducks under a punch and gets the takedown.  He is working half guard and passes to full mount.  Bettencourt rolls and is now on top in guard.  Bettencourt is making Stone pay with some punches to the side of the head.  Both of their legs are tangled but Bettencourt is getting in more punches to the head.

Bettencourt 10-9

Rd 3:  Stone dives for a takedown and Bettencourt stuffs it.  He makes him pay with a knee.  Stone eventually finishes the takedown and is bleeding.  Stone is in full mount again and once again Bettencourt pushes him off and is working his way up.  They end the round tangled up.

Stone 10-9 but real close round.

Sean Bettencourt defeats Sean Stone via split decision.  Awesome battle!








125 AM James Palmer (0-0, F5 Fight Team) vs Richard Santiago (2-4, RAC)

They are going at it!  Rich takes his back and is trying to hook the legs but James defends it nicely.  Rich gets the takedown and works the rear naked choke.  He does a flip off the cage for his victory!

145 AM Aaron Hughes (0-0, TriForce) vs Joe Smith (0-0, Lauzon)

Aaron connects with a punch and Joe gets the takedown.  Aaron has him in a guillotine but can't get the finish.  Aaron is doing a good defending from the bottom and not taking any damage.  Joe moves to half guard before the round ends.

Smith 10-9

Rd 2:  Aaron connects with a head kick.  Joe gets a double leg takedown and is working the guard.  Aaron works a triangle and is trying hard for the finish but can't get the tap.

Hughes 10-9

Rd 3:  Smith looks for the takedown and Aaron stuffs the first one.  Second one works and Smith gets him to the mat.  Aaron is trying to use the cage to pushoff and Smith pins him back down.  Joe gets some space and gets in some ground and pound.  Aaron bucks him off and just misses with a upkick.  Joe dives right back in and gets in some ground and pound as the round ends.

Smith 10-9

Joe Smith defeats Aaron Hughes via unanimous decision.





Hvy AM Rob Brown (1-1, Santos BJJ) vs Zeal McGrew (0-0, Redline)

Zeal works the single leg takedown and they work their way up fast.  Rob connects with a punch and Zeal looks for another takedown but can't get it.  Rob gets in a knee and they break.  Zeal dives for another single leg as the round ends.

McGrew 10-9

Rd 2:  Rob connects with a knee and it hurts Zeal.  He works some more knees to the body and one does catch Zeal in the head.  He drops to the mat and gets the ref stoppage.

170 AM Stephen Langlais (1-8, Team BKJA) vs Antoine Caparotta (0-0, SSSF)

Antoine gets the takedown and is in guard.  He moves to the side and works an americana for the tap.

140 AM Carlos Valladares (0-0 F5 Fight Team) vs Julio Martinez (0-0, GFMMA)

Julio gets in a kick to the body.  Julio connects with a looping right and Carlos smiles back.  Julio catches a kick and is looking for the takedown but can't get it.  Carlos reverses and can't get anything going and they break.  Julio connects with an outside leg kick.  Carlos is pressing Julio up against the cage.  They break and Carlos gets a quick takedown as the round ends.

Martinez 10-9

Rd 2:  Julio starts the round off with a kick to the body.  He gets in a nice combo.  Carlos gets in a pair of outside leg kicks.  Carlos gets close and slams him to the mat for the takedown.  Carlos has the side and gets the back off the roll.  He has the legs hooked and is looking for the finish.  Julio defends it well and is almost out as the round ends.

Valladares 10-9

Rd 3:  Carlos gets the takedown and is in half guard.  He gets pushed back to guard.  He gets in a little ground and pound.  Carlos gets in two more punches and Julio kicks him off.  Julio is looking for the guillotine as the round ends.

155 AM Dan Napolitano (0-0, Franklin Martial Arts) vs Bobby Baker (0-1, Victory)

Dan looks for the takedown but can't get it.  Bobby gets the slam and Dan bounces right back up.  Bobby gets in a knee and they move to the center.  Dan gets in 3 straight jabs and Bobby gets the takedown.  Again they bounce right back up.  Dan connects with a knee as the round ends.

Baker 10-9

Rd 2:  Bobby gets the takedown and he can't keep Dan down.  Blood is coming from Dan's nose.  Bobby gets the takedown and Dan makes him pay with some hammerfists from the top.  Dan finishes the rest of the round working the side.

Napolitano 10-9

Rd 3:  This is a dogfight!  Dan lets out a barrage of strikes.  Bobby isn't defending and Dan eventually gets his back.  He postures up and finishes him off with ground and pound.

115 AM Melissa Ann Infurna (0-0, MassBJJ) vs Hilarie Rose (1-1, USMMA)

Hilarie connects with some strikes.  Melissa weathers the storm but Hilarie comes right back.  Melissa is all bloody and the ref has seen enough.

155 AM TITLE Joe Giannetti (5-0 SSSF) vs. Jacob Weeks (SBG East 3-1)

They clinch and Jacob gets the takedown.  He takes the back and has the legs hooked.  Joe turns and is almost out and Jacob pulls him back.  Joe turns again and is out on top in guard.  Jacob pushes him off and gets in a leg kick before the round ends.

Weeks 10-9

Rd 2:  Jacob connects with a right.  Joe gets in a leg kick.  Jacob fires a kick to the body.  Jacob eats a leg kick and gets the takedown.  Joe gets the roll and is getting in some ground and pound.  He has the back as the round ends.

Weeks 10-9

Rd 3:  They clinch and Jacob is looking for another takedown.  He can't get it and Joe works a standing guillotine for the tap.  Wow!!

Joe Giannetti defeats Jacob Weeks via tapout to guillotine at 48 seconds in Rd 3.  Giannetti becomes the 155 Amateur Cage Titans Champ!








155 PRO Sean Nichols (1-3 Sityodtong) vs. Devin Carrier (0-0 Lauzon MMA)

They are playing the clinch game.  Devin tries for a takedown and Sean defends nicely.  Sean reverses and they break.  They clinch again and Sean is getting in some knees.  Devin just misses with a head kick.  Carrier is pressing Sean up against the cage.  Carrier gets in a combo.  Sean reverses as the round ends.

Carrier 10-9

Rd 2:  Sean gets in an outside leg kick.  Carrier presses Sean up against the cage and Sean reverses.  Carrier chases Sean and is looking for the takedown.  Sean defend and gets a takedown of his own.  Carrier bounces right back up and backs Sean up with a combo.  Carrier pushes Sean back and gets in a knee to the body.  Sean reaches forward with a jab.  Sean connects with a straight right.  Devin connects with a right as the round ends.

Nichols 10-9

Rd 3:  Devin presses Sean up and Sean reverses.  Devin connects with a right.  Devin tries for the single leg but can't get it.  Sean yanks him down to one knee and Devin stands back up.  Sean stuns Devin with a punch and gets in a knee to the head.  Devin is pressing Sean up against the cage.  They break and Devin connects with a punch that sends Sean back.  Devin gets some punches as the round ends.

Carrier 10-9 but a real close round.

Sean Nichols defeats Devin Carrier via unanimous decision.  Real close fight.







190 PRO Ralph Johnson (FAF 10-14) vs. Roger Brackett (5-4 Lakeville MMA)

Roger connects with a right and they clinch.  Roger takes Ralph down.  Ralph tries to get the sweep and gets caught in a triangle for the tap.

Roger Brackett defeats Ralph Johnson via tapout to triangle at 1:15 in Rd 1.






145 PRO Manny Bermudez (2-0 SSSF) vs. Scott Gorgone (2-0 Mass BJJ)

Scott starts the round off with a leg kick.  Manny gets the takedown and moves right to full mount.  Scott turns and works his way up.  Manny pulls Scott back down and Scott is now on top in guard.  Manny sinks in the triangle and gets the tap.

Manny Bermudez defeats Scott Gorgone via tapout to triangle at 1:24 in Rd 1.






170 PRO TITLE Will Santiago ( 4-3 F5 Fight Team) vs. Sean Lally (4-1 GFMMA)

Will connects with a right that sends him down to the mat.  Will backs off and Sean bounces right back up.  Sean connects with a mean right.  Lally with some leg kicks.  Will connects with an uppercut.  Will connects with a right that drops Sean.  He is trying for the finish but Sean is hanging on.  Sean takes Will down desperately and gets caught in a guillotine for the tap.  Will is slow to get up a he is exhausted and his knee looks to be hurt.

Will Santiago defeats Sean Lally via tapout to guillotine at 4:36 in Rd 1.   Santiago becomes the 170 Pro champ!







125 PRO Johnny Campbell (11-6 SSSF) vs. Tateki Matsuda (10-7 Sityodtong)

Johnny gets in an outside leg kick.  They clinch and Tateki gets in 3 elbows.  Tateki gets the flip and they bounce right back up.  Tateki goes for another takedown and he gets it.  Johnny works his way up and they are clinching again.  Johnny trips Tateki up and goes to full mount.  Johnny goes for an armbar but can't get it.  They roll and are back up against the cage as the round ends.

Matsuda 10-9

Rd 2:  Both fighters are feeling each other out with not much connecting.  Tateki goes high and partially connects.  Johnny connects with an outside leg kick.  Tateki throws a right that connects.  Campbell with a fierce sweeping leg kick.  Tateki falls to the mat and steps back up.  Tateki rusehs in with a combo.  Campbell dives for a takedown and Tateki stuffs it and gets in few punches as the round ends.

Matsuda 10-9

Rd 3:  Campbell goes high and its checked.  Johnny fires off an outside leg kick.  Tateki connects with a combo of punches.  Tateki is looking for the takedown and he gets it.  He is in half butterfly  and Johnny almost has him pushed off but Tateki regains the position.  Tateki is trying to pass to full mount but can't get it.  He finishes the rest of the round on top in control

Matsuda 10-9

Tateki Matsuda defeats Johnny Campbell via unanimous decision.

Fight of the Night:  Carrier vs. Nichols--razor close battle.

KO/TKO of the Night: Hilarie Rose and her tko performance

Cage Titans closed out the year with a bang with a solid night of mma action.  The auditorium was packed with fight fans and looked to be sold out.  They announced their next event is Jan 30 and the first fight announced is between Ryan Kane and Rich Santiago for the title!  Mark your calendars for that one.  Special thanks to Mike Polvere and his entire team for all that they do and consistently putting on epic shows.  All of our photos will be uploaded to our facebook fanpage so if you like what you see support us and send us a like!
