Warchild and I made our way to my comfy couch in my living room to sit back and watch the Cage Titans 49th show. Due to mandatory work issues with our jobs, we were unable to attend in person but luckily Cage Titans has a PPV stream that we can all enjoy from the luxury of our homes. With the O'Hearn/Pyles fight off the card Titans now has a total of 13 fights. I really like how they mixed the amateur titles in with the pro fights. Let's just hope that the commission doesn't mess up the 5 minute versus the 3 minute rounds which happens more than you would think. The refs are Steve Rita and Bryan Minor and Bobby Wombacher. Cage Titans aired the National Anthem from Harry Jones who we all miss very much. The show is about to begin so please follow along as I try my best to recap all the action.
130 AM KICK Steve Drayton (0-0 Citadel) vs. Joey Rogers (0-0 Loco Lobo MMA)
Rd 1: Steve starts us off with a head kick. Both fighters are getting in good exchanges. Two good knees from the clinch from Rogers. Steve backs Joey up against the cage with a good combo. Joey with a good combo as the round ends.
Rogers 10-9
Rd 2: Steve rushes in and they exchange. He gets a trip in and the fight resumes. Steve is getting in the cleaner shots so far this round. Joey with a nice right left combo. Steve got in a overhand right that drops Joey right as the round ends.
Drayton 10-9
Rd 3: Both fighters are right back at it. Steve gets hit and loses his mouth piece. Fight resumes and Steve loses his mouth piece again.
Rogers 10-9
Steve Drayton defeats Joey Rogers via unanimous decision in the first Muay Thai fight.
145 AM Guinder Valdez (0-0 Sityodtong) vs. Ben King (0-0 Savery BJJ)
Rd 1: Ben gets in a kick to the body. Guinder shoots in and takes the back. He has the body lock and is looking for the rear naked choke. Ben is fighting it and defending it well.
Valdez 10-9
Rd 2: Guinder goes for the takedown and has the back again. He is looking for the rear naked choke. Ben defends it for a while but Valdez sinks it in and gets the tap.
Guinder Valdez defeats Ben King via tapout to rear naked choke at 2:22 in Round 2. Very impressive fight for both fighters with it being their first amateur fight. They showed great composure.
130 AM Scott Miles (0-0 Citadel) vs. Tyler Smythe (1-1 Evolution Athletix)
Rd 1: Tyler rushes in and is pressing Scott up against the cage. Tyler scoops Scott to the mat and is working the guard. Scott is doing a good job defending. He is trying for a triangle but can’t get the legs in place. Tyler gets in some knees to the body. He gets pushed off and dives back into guard.
Smythe 10-9
Rd 2: Tyler ducks under a punch and takes Scott to the mat. Tyler controls the rest of the round on top

Rd 3: Scott gets the takedown and Tyler sweeps and is now on top in guard. Tyler got pushed off and they both are swinging as the round ends.

Tyler Smythe defeats Scott Miles via unanimous decision. Great job by Tyler especially since he took this fight on a few weeks notice.
170 AM Josh Smith (0-0 Nostos) vs. John O'Connor (0-0 Loco Lobo MMA)
Smith scoops up Josh and slams him to the mat. John is trying for an armbar but can’t get the arm free. Josh is in half guard and then passes to full mount.
Smith 10-9
Rd 2: Josh gets the takedown and has side control. He gets the crucifix and is getting in some ground and pound. After a minute and the ref has seen enough and stops the fight.
Josh Smith defeats John O’Connor via tko stoppage to strikes at 1:43 in Round 2. Very impressive performance from Smith. Smith went in and smeshed.
135 AM Joshua Medeiros (0-0 Sityodtong) vs. Andrew Valdina (1-1 Lauzon MMA)
Rd 1: Josh is pressing Andrew up against the cage. They break and Josh presses Andrew up against the cage again. Andrew gets in a head kick. He covers and is trying for the finish but runs out of time.
Valdina 10-9
Rd 2: Andrew goes high and Josh pushes him up against the cage. Andrew takes the back standing briefly and Andrew slips out. They are back to the center. Josh gets in a right and then the takedown. Valdina pushes Josh off and they are back to the center. Andrew with a few knees to the body. Andrew gets poked in the eye and the ref spots it and deducts a point. The fight resumes and the bell sounds.

Rd 3: Both fighter missing with a few punches and kick. Josh rushes in and is pressing Andrew up against the cage. They break and are back in the center. Andrew throws Josh up against the cage and follows it up with a head kick. Josh presses Andrew up against the cage. Not much action and the ref breaks it up. They both swing a few punches as the round ends.
Real close round.
Andrew Valdina defeats Joshua Medeiros via unanimous decision. This was a real close back and forth battle. Awesome job.

Rd 1: Jay gets the takedown and has the side. Jay has his legs around Trevor’s neck. Trevor slips out and gets the takedown. He gets the rear naked takedown for the quick tap.

155 PRO Leo Ladeira (0-2 Sityodtong) vs. Dion Rubio (0-0 Triforce MMA)
Rd 1: Leo gets in a nice right and a knee. Dion is trying for the takedown. Leo is looking for an armbar but can’t get it. Dion now has the side and is firing elbows. Dion continued to dominate the round on top.

Rd 2: They stand and punch for about 40 seconds and then Dion gets the double leg takedown. He is working the side and is controlling the fight. Dion get in a nice slick guillotine and gets the tap.
Dion Rubio defeats Leo Ladeira via tapout to guillotine at 4:16 in Round 2. Very quick slick guillotine for the tap.
125 AM TITLE Nate Russell (6-1 FAA) vs. Joe Poirier (2-0 SBG East)
Rd 1: Nate starts us off with a leg kick. He gets in another kick that stumbles Joe. Nate gets in another leg kick and Joe closes the distance and presses Nate up against the cage. Joe is trying for a guillotine as the round ends.
Russell 10-9
Rd 2: Joe ducks under a punch and is pressing Nate up against the cage. After a minute Nate reverses and is getting in some punches. Nate tries for a takedown but Joe is trying for a guillotine. Nate finishes on top in half guard as the round ends.
Real close round, could go either way.
Rd 3: Joe is clinching Nate up against the cage. Nate gets the takedown and lands right in mount. He takes the back and works a rear naked choke for the tap.
Nate Russell defeats Joe Poirier via tapout to rear naked choke at 1:43 in Round 3. Russell becomes the new Cage Titans 125 lb champ!! Congrats Nate!!
170 PRO Roberto Young (3-7 Team Ali) vs. Marty Navis (4-0 Lauzon MMA)
Rd 1: As expected they come out swinging for the fences. Marty has seen enough and goes for a takedown. He gets it and is trying to take his back. Roberto is standing back up and Marty connects with two huge knees to the face. Marty gets a rear naked choke but cant get the finish. They are standing back up and ref stops it briefly for a hit to the back of the head. Marty gets Roberto back to the mat and Roberto slips through his legs and they are standing as the round ends.
Navis 10-9
Rd 2: Marty rushes in with a jumping knee. Roberto rolls twice to get away. Marty gets him to the mat. Roberto is standing back up and Marty pushes him to the mat and goes into full mount. He keeps working the ground and pound for the stoppage.
Marty Navis defeats Roberto Young via tko stoppage to strikes at 2:06 in Round 2.
145 PRO Lionel Young (8-17 Citadel) vs. Pat Gilbride (3-1 Lauzon MMA)
Rd 1: Lionel connects with wild left that drops Pat. Pat recovers and stands back up. Pat goes for a takedown and Lionel drops heavy elbows to the side of the head that drops Pat to the mat again. He finishes him off with some ground and pound and gets the stoppage.

145 AM TITLE Xavier Cardona (2-1 Lakeville MMA) vs. Shane Dougherty (4-0 USMMA)
Rd 1: Xavier is throwing bombs. Shane pulls guard with a guillotine. Xavier defends but can’t stop it. He goes out. Wow!!
Shane Dougherty defeats Xavier Cardona via technical submission to guillotine at 53 seconds in Round 1. Shane improves to 5-0 and keeps his title!!
135 PRO Joe Penafiel (6-3 Fusion Xcel) vs. Richie Santiago (8-3 Triforce MMA)
Rd 1: They come out swinging. Joe kicked Richie and they fell to the mat. Joe is working the guard. Richie gets some space and threatens with a guillotine. They work their way up. They were slugging away and Richie gets caught with combo and goes to the mat. Richie tries to stand up and Joe gets in a knee to the head that drops him. Ref has seen enough.
Joe Penafiel defeats Richie Santiago via tko stoppage to strikes at 4:32 in Round 1. What a war!!
155 PRO TITLE Darius Estell (7-3 Michigan Top Team) vs. Joe Giannetti (9-4 AKA)
Rd 1: Darius connects with a right and Joe takes him down. Joe is all over him and gets in a couple knees to the head. Joe gets Darius to the mat and Darius bucks him off and they are back to their feet. Joe being very aggressive which is nice to see! Joe jumps with a knee and Darius knocks him down to the mat. Joe slips out and takes the back. He gets in a few punches before the round ends.
Giannetti 10-9
Rd 2: Darius rushes in swinging. Joe fires right back with an uppercut. Joe connects with a left hook. Darius with a cross left. Darius connects with a right to the body. Joe clinches Darius up against the cage. Joe gets in a knee to the body in the exchange.
Giannetti 10-9
Rd 3: Joe rushes in and Darius fires with a right. Darius rushes in with a combo and Joe gets in a knee to the head that drops Darius. Joe finishes him off with some ground and pound.
Joe Giannetti defeats Darius Estell via tko stoppage to strikes at 1:23 in Round 3. Giannetti becomes the new lightweight champion!!
