NEF 24 6/18/2016 LIVE REVIEW


We are here live at New England Fights for their 24th event and this one is taking place at the Colisee in Lewiston Maine.  It is a mixed martial arts and boxing event with 15 fights total with 5 fights being boxing.  There was an amateur title fight but that one is no longer a title fight as one of the fighters didn't make weight.  NEF has more Bang for your buck as there are 4 fighters from the Bang family fighting on the card tonight.  Pete Czymbor is the host of the evening and the two ring girls are wearing a beautiful red white and blue outfit.  NEF did an awesome tribute to Ali at the beginning of the show which was fun to watch.  The national anthem was sung by the Vayo twins and the show is about to start.  The refs are Steve Rita and John English. Follow along as we recap the night.







190 PRO BOXING Steve Collins, Jr. (7-0-1) vs Jose Humberto Corral (19-21)

Steve Collins Jr takes the unanimous decision 60-54.







154 PRO BOXING Casey Kramlich (4-0-1) vs Zenon Herrera (0-1)

Kramlich wins tko stoppage at 1:35 into Round 3.







HWT PRO BOXING Vinnie Carita (11-1-1) vs Francisco Mireles (17-10)

Carita wins by tko stoppage at 27 seconds of Rd 2.







155 AM MMA Steve Bang Sr. (CMBJJ 1-1) vs Stacy Lupo (Shatterproof 0-0)

Bang dives for a takedown and is stuffed.  Stacy gets in a right hand as they are standing back up.  Steve connects with a kick.  Steve tries for another takedown to no avail.  Both fighters exchange inside leg kicks.  Stacy slips with a kick.  Steve with an outside leg kick.

Bang 10-9

Rd 2:  Bang is starting the round off with some leg kicks.  He misses with a right and Stacy counters.  Bang works a takedown and Stacy has the neck.  Steve is fighting it with punches to the side and to the head.  Steve was looking for an arm triangle and Stacy sweeps.  Stacy gets in some punches to the head as the round ends

Bang 10-9

Rd 3:  Stacy connects with a right that stuns Steve.  Stacy has his back and can't get the finish. Bang stands back up with blood in the mouth and takes Stacy down.  He has his back and is looking for the finish with ground and pound.  The ref has seen enough and stops the fight.

115 AM MMA Alex Walker (Kaze 0-1) vs Nicole Burgess (Berserker's 0-0)

Alex connects with a head kick and they clinch.  Nicole slams her to the mat and Alex bucks her off.  They are back standing and swinging.  Alex connects with a spinning back fist.  Alex is working her combos.  She connects with another spinning back fist.  Nicole swings with a right that connects.  Nicole gets a takedown and blood is pouring from the nose.  Alex goes the armbar and Nicole slams her to the mat.

Walker 10-9

Rd 2:  Nicole looks for the guilotine and takes Alex down to the mat but can't get the finish.  Alex connects with a spinning back fist.  Alex connects with 3 kicks to the stomach.  Nicole gets in a right.  Alex dodges a punch and connects with a kick.  Alex throws a kick and Nicole takes her down.  Alex sweeps to full mount. She is getting in some heavy hammerfists.  With the last few seconds she goes for an armbar and the bell sounds.

Walker 10-9

Rd 3:  Nicole gets the takedown and Alex works an armbar.  Nicole fights it and slams her down 3 times but Alex is relentless and gets the tap.

155 AM MMA Steve Bang, Jr. (CMBJJ 3-5) vs Dominic Cofone (Academy of MMA 6-5)

They clinch and Dom is thinking takedown.  Steve shakes him free and Dom is looking for one again.  Steve grabs hold of Dom's leg and Dom gets free.  He is looking for the d'arce and it looked good but Bang escapes.  They are back standing and  Steve works a guillotine for the tap.

145 AM MMA Skyler Bang (CMBJJ 0-0) Eddie DeRoche (Berserker's MMA 0-0)

Eddie goes for the neck and looking for the guillotine.  Eddie can't get the finish and they roll.  Eddie is on top and postures up with some ground and pound.  Skyler turns and Eddie takes his back.  He is trying for the rear naked choke but can't get the finish once again.  Skyler hangs on and takes Eddie's back from the scramble.  He works a rear naked choke for the tap.

130 AM MMA Conner Murphy (1-1 Nor Cal FA ) vs Justin Witham (1-4 Shatterproof)

Connor gets the takedown and gets in guard.  He goes for the heel hook and Justin rolls out.  Conner has the leg tied up and is getting in punches to the body.  Conner backs off and gets in some kicks to the leg from standing over the downed Witham as the round ends.

Murphy 10-9

Rd 2:  Conner takes Justin down and gets full mount.  Justin sweeps and is now in the guard.  Not much action for the rest of the round.

Witham 10-9

Rd 3:  Justin presses Conner up against the cage.  He gets in a few knees to the body.  Conner dives for a takedown and he is stuffed.  Justin takes his back and works the rear naked choke.

155 AM MMA Derek Daley (0-0 First Class MMA ) vs Johel Stephenson (0-0 3Ronin Athletics)

Derek connects with a clean right.  Derek takes him down and moves to full mount.  He finishes him off with some ground and pound.

170 AM MMA Shawn Bang (CMBJJ 1-1) vs Mike Bezanson (Kaze 1-0)

Mike starts us off with a combo.  Mike connects with a clean right that drops Shawn.  He gets in a few more punches and and ref stops the fight.

125 AM MMA Ryan Burgess (Berserkers 2-0) vs Dustin Veinott (CMBJJ 4-4)

Ryan connects with a kick and Dustin gets in a punch.  Ryan scoops Dustin up and slams him to the mat.  Dustin has the neck tied up and Ryan backs up.  They clinch and Dustin gets in some kicks to the body.  Dustin has the neck and gets Ryan to the mat.  Dustin gets in  some ground and pound and Ryan upkicks to the chest.  They are back standing and Ryan connects with a late hit after the bell sounds.

Burgess 10-9

Rd 2:  Ryan connects with a spinning backfist.  They clinch and Ryan twists Dustin to the mat.  Dustin works a triangle from the bottom and cranks on the head for the tap.

160 PRO BOXING Russell Lamour (13-2) vs Roberto Valenzuela (69-71-2)

Lamour wins tko at 2:05 in Rd 1.








140 PRO BOXING TITLE Brandon Berry (11-1-1)(c) vs James Lester (10-9-1)

James Lester wins decision.  #newchamp










145 PRO MMA Matt Denning (CMBJJ 3-2) vs Brandon Bushaw (Fitness Edge MMA 1-2)

Matt connects with a kick and presses Brandon up against the cage.  Brandon drops down then goes back up.  He reverses does a foot stomp.  They exchange elbows and Brandon is still pressing Matt up against the cage.  Matt pulled guard and now Brandon is on top.  Brandon gets in a few punches to the head and Matt is trying to use the cage to get to his feet.  Rest of the round is on the ground with little action.

Bushaw 10-9

Rd 2:  Brandon rushes in and gets the takedown.  Matt gets back to his feet before Brandon can settle in.  Matt slips and Brandon hops into guard.  Matt gets some space and Bushaw gets right back into guard.  Matt gets some space  and Brandon moves to full mount and gets in some more ground and pound.

Bushaw 10-9

Rd 3:  Denning starts the round off with an outside leg kick.  Bushaw trips him up and gets the take down.  He is in half guard and eventually postures up and gets in some heavy ground and pound.  He works a kimura for the tap.

160 PRO MMA Jesse Erickson (CMBJJ 6-5) vs Amos Collins (Fitness Edge MMA 4-5)

Jesse partially connects with a kick to the body and they collide up against the cage.  Both fighters are fighting for position up against the cage.  Jesse fires with an elbow that connects clean.  I see some blood on Amos's eye.  Jesse gets in a knee that drops Collins and he is hurt and out.

Jesse Erickson defeats Amos Collins via ko at 2:40 second in Rd 1.








FIGHT OF THE NIGHT:  Walker vs. Burgess, great back and forth battle.  Non-stop action.
KO/TKO OF THE NIGHT:  Erickson and vicious knee KO.
SUB OF THE NIGHT:  Veinott triangle win.
