Team Ravenous Grapplers Bring Home the Hardware!!

Team Ravenous had a very successful day this Saturday at NAGA in RI. Conor Johnston, our young gun at 16 years old, used his great wrestling and slick submission work to go 2 for 3! Winning by a Kimura arm lock in his first match, and a dominant decision in his second to win the much coveted 1st place samurai sword!! In his 3rd match, Conor stepped up and took a match in the advanced division, showing great heart and skill, before finally succumbing to a Kimura arm lock himself, forcing him to tap, and take home a silver medal.

I( Jeremy Reipold) was forced to step up in weight to grapple in the masters division (30 yrs to 39yrs)at 149 lbs even though I weighed 139lbs, when no other competitors in my class showed up. The competitor proved to be too strong, and laid his way to a 2-1 decision win. Annoyed, I took the silver since there were no other competitors at our weight/age. Since I was done only after 1 match, my teammate/co-team manager talked me into competing in the adult intermediate flyweight (139) class. This was open to all men 18yrs and up. I certainly was the oldest , but did my best to keep up with the younger fighters speed and determination. I won my first match by Guillotine Choke. Then lost my next match by way of Knee-Bar submission. (it was good, I still feel it right now) In my last match, I dominated on points, holding top position, throwing several submission attempts, and winning by decision, to get the bronze.

Big thanks to our teammates Todd and Nick. The support and cornering was awesome. Check back soon for videos of Conor and Jeremy's fights!!!
