Chattelle, Oteri chase title; Campbell, Anderson square off for bragging rights

LINCOLN, R.I. (Nov. 17, 2011) – The reality is starting to sink in for Todd Chattelle and Brett Oteri, who will face one another tomorrow night for Classic Entertainment & Sports’ inaugural mixed martial arts middleweight title.

“Honestly, I feel as though I’m not even supposed to be here today with all the things I’ve been through in life,” said Chattelle, who grew up living with four of his brothers in Pawtucket, R.I. “It just goes to show if you can dream it, you can do it.”

Chattelle (9-6, 9 KOs) and Oteri (8-2, 1 KO) will square off tomorrow night in the five-round main event of “Undisputed,” CES’ season finale in mixed martial arts at the Twin River Event Center. Chattelle has won three consecutive bouts while Oteri, a former amateur bodybuilder from Dedham, Mass., is coming off a loss to Ryan Quinn at the Bellator Fighting Championships in August, but has gone the distance in each of his last four fights.

Limited tickets are available for “Undisputed,” priced at $35.00, $55.00 and $100.00, and can be purchased by calling CES at 401.724.2253/2254, online at www.twinriver.com, at the Players Club booth at Twin River, or through any TicketMaster location. Doors open 6 p.m. with the first bout scheduled for 7.

“Although it’s cool that this is a title fight, that’s not the most important thing for me,” Oteri said. “This will give me more experience, plus it’s a big fight against a top-tier competitor in New England. That’s what’s most important to me.

“The fact that there’s a title on the line is icing on the cake, but I’m definitely not thinking about it at all. I won’t let it get in my head or make me nervous.”

Ocean State rivals Mike Campbell (9-4, 6 KOs) of Providence, R.I., and Jeff Anderson (10-4, 2 KOs) of Lincoln will face one another in the lightweight co-feature. Campbell, who hasn’t fought in seven months, is searching for his first win since February when he knocked out Mike Medrano at Twin River.

“Honestly, I’ve been going through a lot of things in my mind while cutting weight,” Campbell said Thursday. “This will be an even more exciting fight than people expect because Jeff is a good opponent and, like he said, he needs this as much as I do.

“I need it for myself, and he needs it to show people he’s one of the best in New England. We both really respect each other, and we both know we’re game opponents. He won’t back down, and he knows I won’t back down. This is the best I’ve ever felt during a weight cut. I’m all smiles; I’m happy to be back. The two things going through my head are that it doesn’t matter who you’ve fought or who you’ve lost to, and that the guy I’m fighting is only as good as I’m going to make him, and, to me, no one is on my level.”

Anderson, nicknamed “Candyman,” is accustomed to facing elite competition and is entering Friday’s showdown with Campbell fresh off back-to-back wins over John Ortolani and Damien Trites, all during a six-month stretch this past summer.

“I’ve got a lot of respect for Mike. He’s a cool dude,” Anderson said. “He and I have talked a lot before this fight, and because we have a mutual respect for one another I think we’ll take more chances against each other. That makes it more fun to watch.”

“Undisputed” also features a middleweight showdown between Keith Jeffrey (5-2-1) of Pawtucket, R.I., and New York native Kevin Horowitz (3-3). Saul “The Spider” Almeida (10-1) of Framingham, Mass., will face featherweight Kevin Roddy (11-13) of New Jersey; lightweight Dinis Paiva Jr. (1-1, 1 KO) of East Providence, R.I., will battle newcomer Cliff Moulton of New York; featherweight Shaun Marmus (3-2-1, 1 KO) of Coventry, R.I.; will take on Robbie Leroux (3-1, 1 KO) of Fall River, Mass.; Keith Ferreira (1-1, 1 KO) of Fall River will face newcomer Vincent Ramirez of Springfield, Mass., in a middleweight bout; and Gilvan Santos (1-0) of Framingham will face bantamweight Rob Costa (1-1) of Fall River. Providence heavyweight Eric Bedard (2-0, 1 KO) will also be featured on the undercard in a three-round bout against Marcelo Rocha-Pereira (1-3) of Boston.

(Twin River has waived its 18+ rule for “Undisputed.” Anybody under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult and must enter through the West entrance.)
