TOP-RANKED FEATHERWEIGHTS TO HEADLINE LEWISTON AMATEUR CARD

[NEF Press Release]

Lewiston, Maine (February 28, 2014) – New England Fights Mixed Martial Arts (NEF MMA) today announced the addition of an amateur featherweight bout to the fight promotion's May 10, 2014 card scheduled to take place at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston, Maine.  The bout, which will headline the amateur portion of the event, is scheduled to feature two of the region's top-ranked 145-pound competitors in Aaron Lacey (3-0) and "Dangerous" Dom "Hands of Stone" Cofone (4-3).

The popular Cofone is a native of Westbrook, Maine.  He brings with him to the cage a strong wrestling pedigree, having won a Class A State Championship for Westbrook High School in 2001 where he put together an impressive record of 117-28 over the course of four years.  Currently training out of Balanced Ground MMA in Windham, Maine, Cofone got off to a wildly successful start to his amateur fight career, having emerged victorious in his first three bouts.  While he has lost three of his last four, those losses have come at the hands of some stiff competition with the likes of Vovka "KGB" Clay (now 1-0 pro) and Kirk Florian (3-0), brother of UFC veteran Kenny Florian (14-6), serving as opponents.  Cofone will be looking to get back on the winning track on May 10 in Lewiston.

"I have a lot of respect for Aaron and all of Young's MMA," stated Cofone.  "He has a very dangerous ground game and very good striking.  I look forward to testing myself against such a tough opponent, after two straight losses I'm extremely motivated.  May 10th can't come soon enough for me.  Can't wait to do my thing in front of the thousands of NEF fans!"

Aaron Lacey fights out of Holden, Maine and is a member of Young's MMA based in nearby Bangor, Maine.  Like Cofone before him, Lacey has gotten off to a very successful start in his amateur fight career, having also won his first three bouts.  He has made quite the statement in the regional MMA community, finishing all three opponents, including handing Caleb Hall (3-1) his first and only loss to date.  Some have gone so far as to name Lacey the "heir apparent" to the NEF MMA featherweight division when his teammate, and current Maine State MMA Featherweight Champion, Ray "All Business" Wood (4-0) gets the call up to the major league of the sport.  That remains to be seen, but fight fans can expect Aaron Lacey to bring his A-game when he steps into the cage with Dom Cofone on May 10 in Lewiston.

"Dom is a tough fighter with a really solid wrestling background," said Lacey when reached for comment. "This will be a great challenge for me. "

“NEF XIII” is scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston, Maine with a bell time of 7:00 pm.  Already announced, Maine State MMA Bantamweight Champion Paul Gorman (10-8) defends against undefeated Kin "Kong" Moy (5-0).  In addition, "The" Ryan Sanders (6-4) will rematch Maine State MMA Welterweight Champion Gil de Freitas (15-5) nearly two years after de Freitas defeated Sanders for the inaugural title.  Tickets for "NEF XIII" start at just $25 and are on sale now at www.TheColisee.com or by calling The Colisee box office at 207.783.2009 x 525.
