NEF MMA XV 11/15/2014 TEASER

New England Fights returns this Saturday with their 15th event on November 15th at the Colisee in Lewiston Maine. The doors open at 6pm and the fight fans will come pounding down the doors to see some carnage in the cage.  There are 17 total fights for this event and of the 17, 6 of them are professional ones.  The NEF crew has once again put together a solid fight card and are looking to go out on a high note leading into 2015.  Tickets are still available at the link here and the grandstand seats start at just $25.  NEF has put many of their staple of fighters on the card which will be sure to please the crowd.  I would also like to mention the return of NEF ring girl Bree will be there! Let me break down the card for you all..

145 AM Nick Spencer (5-4 Choi Institute) vs Caleb Serra (0-0 Team Kaze)

Nick Spencer takes on Caleb Serra in a battle at 145lbs.  Nick fights out of Choi Institute and has a 5-4 record.  He has 4 wins by ko/tko and one by submission.  For his losses he lost 2 by sub and 2 by decision.  He has some solid standup and that is how he gets his ko/tko victories.  He is fast and crisp and can surprise his opponents.  Caleb Serra fights out of Team Kaze and will be making his amateur debut.  Team Kaze always gets their fighters ready for anything but its obvious here that Spencer has the experience with the 9 fight advantage.  I expect this to be a stand up battle and it is going to be real fun to watch.

135 AM Doug Bailey (0-0 Independent) vs Dave Brown (0-1 White Mountain BJJ)

Next up Doug Bailey takes on Dave Brown at 135lbs.  Norman Fox was originally slotted for this one but had to drop out and thankfully Bailey has stepped up last minute.   Bailey is an independent fighter and will be making his amateur debut.  Brown trains with White Mountain BJJ and has an 0-1 record.  He lost his first fight in 2011 by submission at a previous CFX show against Jordan Smith.  This is an even match up which should produce another great fight for the record books of NEF.

130 AM Justin Witham (0-1 Team Nitemare) vs Dustin Venoitt (1-3 CMBJJ - NEU)

At a catch weight of 130lbs Justin Witham challenges Dustin Venoitt in the NEF cage.  Witham trains out of Team Nitemare.  Witham lost his first battle at the last NEF show against John Crafts by submission.  His opponent is Dustin Venoitt and he trains out of CMBJJ/NEU.  He comes into this fight with a 1-3 record.  Dustin lost his first 3 fights, one by ko/tko, one by sub and one by decision.  He didn't let that get to him and in his 4th fight he received his first amateur victory.  He won by Ko/tko against Dan Thayer early in round 1.  Dustin is looking to continue his winning ways and ride the momentum into this fight.  Both of these fighters like to be aggressive so I think this will be a good stand up battle but I don't think it will make it to a decision.

135 AM Carl Langston (3-5 Balanced Ground MMA) vs Fred Lear (1-0 Young’s MMA)

Then at 135lbs Carl Langston is taking on Fred Lear.  Langston trains out of Balanced Ground MMA and comes into this fight with a 3-5 record.  For his wins he has won by what I like to call the hat trick, one by ko/tko, one by sub and one by decision.  For his losses he lost 2 by ko/tko, 1 by sub and 2 by decision.  He is always up for a challenge and has the fight experience coming into this battle.  His opponent is Fred Lear from Young's MMA.  Lear comes into this fight with a 1-0 record with a win against Josh Tucker by ko/tko near the end of Round 1.  Lear will be looking for the quick finish once again.  I feel this one will be a ground battle.

145 AM Sheldon Bang (1-0 CMBJJ) vs Henry Clark (0-0 Choi Institute)

Sheldon Bang returns to the NEF cage against Henry Clark at 145lbs.  Bang trains out of CMBJJ and comes into this fight with an 1-0 record.  He won his first battle by decision against Carl Langston back a few NEF shows ago.  He has a good ground game and was able to put Langston on his back a few times. He never gave up and wore down his opponent and got the nod from the judges.  His opponent is Henry Clark and he is fighting out of Choi's Institute.  Henry will be making his amateur debut.  Coming out of Choi's I know he will be ready for anything.  I feel this fight will come down to a decision again and is going to be another exciting battle!

160 AM Pat Kelly (1-0 Young's MMA) vs Steven Bang (3-1 CMBJJ - Team NEU)

At 160 lbs Pat Kelly will face off against Steven Bang.  Kelly trains out of Young's MMA and has a 1-0 record.  He won very quickly with a submission in his first fight and at 50 years old he isn't wasting anymore time.  His opponent is Steven Bang and he trains out of CMBJJ/NEU.  He is the second Bang brother on the card and he has a 3-1 record.  He has two submission wins and one decision win so far in his amateur career.  His only loss came by submission in his first amateur fight.  I see this fight going to the ground very quickly and I feel it will be a good ground battle by both fighters.

155 AM  Alex Johnson (0-1 Ruthless Boxing & MMA) vs Rick Matthews (0-0 Team Irish)

Then at 155lbs Alex Johnson takes on Rick Matthews.  Johnson trains out of Ruthless Boxing and MMA and comes into this fight with an 0-1 record.  He lost his first fight against Josh Harvey by submission.  He is still hungry for his first amateur victory.  His opponent is Rick Matthews and he fights out of Team Irish.  Matthews will be making his amateur debut.  Their records are basically identical which should make for a close match up.

170 AM Adam Nielsen (1-0 Team Irish) vs Heath Hanson (0-0 3Ronin Athletics)

At 170 lbs Adam Nielson will face off against Heath Hanson at NEF this Saturday.  Adam fights out of Team Irish.  He comes into this fight with a 1-0 record with a win over Arthur Belgrade by ko/tko back in 2013.  His opponent is Heath Hanson and he trains with 3Ronin Athletics.  He will be making his amateur debut and to prove that he belongs in the NEF cage.

180 AM Jacob Cameron (1-3 Team Nitemare) vs Ricky Dexter (0-0 Team Irish)

Next up is a catch weight fight at 180lbs between Jacob Cameron and Ricky Dexter.  Cameron lost his first 3 fights but never gave up and won in his last fight with NEF.  In his last fight he fought against John Gardner and won by ko/tko in just 1 minute of Rd 1.  He is going into this fight with a 1-3 record and is looking to make that 2-3 by the time he leaves the cage this Saturday.  His opponent is Ricky Dexter and is fighting out of Team Irish.  He will be making his amateur debut and will have to adjust real early to the cage since Cameron already has 4 fights under his belt.  Being from Team Irish I know he will be well prepared for a war.  This should be an exciting stand up battle.

S.HWT AM Gravin Guillen (0-1 Independent) vs Mladin Holman (0-0 Choi Institute)

In the super heavyweight category Gravin Guillen takes on Mladin Holman.  Gravin is an independent fighter with an 0-1 record.  He lost his first battle at the last NEF show by submission against Bill Leahy in Rd 1.  He is still hungry for his first taste of victory.  His opponnent is Mladin Holman and he is fighting out of Choi Institute.  Holman will be making his amateur debut and being out of Choi you know he will be well prepared.  I have been told Holman is older and has a solid BJJ game so I can't wait to see it.  On paper this is a real close battle and remember the bigger the guys are the harder they fall.  Don't blink on this one fight fans!

151 AM Dom Cofone (5-4 Balanced Ground MMA) vs Caleb Hall (4-1 Choi Institute)

Next up at a catch weight of 151 lbs Dom Cofone takes on Caleb Hall.  Cofone trains out of Balanced Ground MMA and has a 5-4 record.  He has 3 submission wins, 1 by ko/tko and one by decision so far in his amateur career.  He has struggled as of lately and has lost 3 out of his last 4 battles.  However he has always taken fights against tough fighters his entire career which is only going to benefit him when he goes pro.  This is fight is no exception as his opponent Caleb Hall has a record of 4-1 and is fighting out of Choi Institute.  Hall has 2 wins by ko/tko and 2 by submission.  His only loss came against Aaron Lacey in which he lost by submission.  Both fighters are excellent wrestlers and this should be a really good ground battle.  Potential fight of the night candidate right here.  Now onto the pro fights!

135 PRO Elias Leland (1-0 The Academy) vs Jimmy Alexander (F2 Arena)

The first professional fight of the evening is between Elias Leland and Jimmy Alexander at 135lbs.  Elias fights out of the Academy and has a 1-0 record.  He won his pro debut against Brandon Bushaw by submission in Rd 3 at the last NEF fight.  He is looking to carry that momentum into this fight.  His opponent is Jimmy Alexander and he trains out of F2 Arena with a 1-6 record.  Alexander has lost 5 out of 6 losses by submissions.  His sole win was by split decision and most of his fights have been in Florida.  NEF fans will remember he fought against Tommy Balzano back in 2013 at NEF 7.  Alexander is gonna have his hands full with Elias on this one.  I see Elias winning this one in the second round by submission.

140 PRO Derek Shorey (1-0 Independent) vs Matt Denning (0-0 CMBJJ - Team NEU)

At a catch weight of 140lbs Derek Shorey is taking on Matt Denning.  Shorey struggled in his amateur career but became pro at the last NEF show and won by submission against John Raio.  He is facing another tough fighter and has been training for this harder than ever.  His opponent is Matt Denning and he trains out of CMBJJ/NEU.  Denning had a 4-3 record as an amateur with all 4 of his wins by submission.  He fought some tough fighters in his amateur career and now he is ready to make his pro debut.  This is a close match up and should be an awesome battle.

159 PRO Jamie Harrison (4-1 First Coast Full Contact) vs Tollison Lewis (0-2 BGMMA)

Then at a catch weight of 159lbs Jamie Harrison returns against Tollison Lewis.  Jamie trains with First Coast Full Contact down in Florida and brings his 4-1 record on the line.  He has 3 wins by ko/tko and one win by submission.  His only pro loss came against Aaron Conway back in 2010 in which he lost by ko/tko.  He will be well prepared and have the lobster claws loaded up if needed!  His opponent is no stranger to the NEF cage as Tollison Lewis enters the NEF cage for the 12th time in his career.  As a pro fighter he comes into this fight with an 0-2 record.  Tollison has lost both of his pro fights by way of submission.  Tollison trains with Balanced Ground MMA and he is still hungry for first taste of pro victory.  I think this fight will be an exciting ground battle and the NEF fans will be sure to enjoy.

160 PRO Ryan Sanders (6-6 Young’s MMA) vs Mark DeFord (0-2 F2 Arena)

At 160 lbs Ryan Sanders takes on Mark DeFord in the NEF cage.  Sanders trains out of Young's MMA and comes into this fight with a 6-6 record.  Sanders has 5 wins by submission and one win by ko/tko stoppage.  For his losses he has 4 losses by decision, 1 by ko/tko and one by submission.  He is as dangerous on the ground as can be and no doubt will be looking for the submission.  His stand up has been looking better each fight too.  In fact his last two opponents didn't even want to stand with him for too long and ended up taking him down most of the fight.  His opponent is Mark DeFord who fights out of F2 Arena. DeFord was a 4-2 amateur but since he went pro has an 0-2 record.  Under Coach Ryan Hodge, I know DeFord will be ready for a war.

265 PRO Brent Dillingham (0-1 MMA Athletix) vs Artie Mullen (1-12 MMA of S. Maine)

In another heavyweight battle Brent Dillingham takes on Artie Mullen.  Dillingham or Frosty as he likes to be called trains out of MMA Athletix and comes into this fight with an 0-1 record.  He went 4-0 as an amateur 2 wins by submission and 2 wins by ko/tko.  He went pro for the Bellator show up in Maine and fought Mike Mucitelli and lost by submission.  Now he is anxious to get back in the cage and take care of the goose egg in the win column.  He is quite a character to see in the cage so come check him out and judge for yourself.  His opponent is the veteran Artie Mullen who trains with MMA of South Maine.  He comes into this fight with a 1-12 record with all first round stoppages.  I wish Artie the best of luck in this fight but I see Dillingham winning this one easy in Rd 1 by ko/tko.

155 PRO *TITLE Bruce Boyington (8-7 Young’s MMA) vs Jesse Erickson (4-3 CMBJJ)

The big rematch is almost here.  I am referring to the title holder Bruce Boyington defending his belt against Jesse Erickson.  Boyington comes into this fight with an 8-7 record and has been on quite a tear lately winning 4 out of 5 of his last wins.  He has really good stand up and does a good job at taking down his opponents and controlling the rounds.  In the first fight Boyington outstruck Erickson and got the ref stoppage to strikes.  I personally thought the stoppage was a little early as Erickson was still standing and throwing punches and apparently other fight fans did too because they wanted an instant rematch.  Boyington thankfully agreed and the fight is on once again!  Boyington is out to prove the first win against Erickson was no joke and he plans to do it once more!  Erickson trains out of CMBJJ and comes into this fight with a 4-3 record.  With 3 wins by submission and 1 win by ko/tko he is a nasty BJJ specialist.  He lost two fights by ko/tko and one by submission.  This is the main event and no doubt will be THE FIGHT everyone will be talking about the next day.

There you have it fight fans!  I hope you all enjoyed the complete breakdown of the entire NEF show.  Warchild and I will be making the trip up north to cover the show for you all.  I am excited to bring my new laptop up there and try it out.  I am finally out of the stone ages and will not be using my 7 year old dinosaur.  Thanks to NEF for always keeping us up to date on the fight card and latest happenings.  What fight are you all most excited about??
