CAGE TITANS 24 6/20/2015 REVIEW

(Click on any Matchup to see the entire fight on YouTube)Cage Titans returns tonight with a stellar card once again.  We quickly made our way to the cage and Prime Athletics has a primo spot in the main area of the auditorium.  A few fights were scrapped recently so they are down to 16 fights.  Fight fans were ready for the carnage of the night to start.  Polvere starts the night with the Fallen Fighter Shayne Stephenson award to Manny Bermudez.  Pete Czymbor is the announcer for the night.  Warchild is our photographer for the night and I will be doing the live play by play.  Please follow along with us as we recap the night live.




125 AM  Yiannis Savvidis (0-0, Boston Combat) vs Jose Lugo (0-0 Rivera Athletics)

Jose wins the first exchange and is pushing Yiannis up against the cage.  He gets in a knee to the body and then they break.  Jose connects with a body kick and then presses Yiannis up against the cage.  Yiannis has his arms hooked and tosses Jose to the mat.  Jose bounces right back up and is continuing to work his knees to the body against the cage.

Lugo 10-9

Rd 2:  Jose just misses with a high kick.  Jose backs Yiannis back up against the cage with a combo.  They break and move back to the center.  Jose is working his knees to the body of Yiannis once again this round.  Blood is coming from a cut above the left eye of Lugo.  Jose gets in a knee to the body and Yiannis reverses.  He gets in a knee to the body before the round ends.

Rd 3:  Jose gets in a couple of jabs to start the round off.  Jose closes the distance and gets in a body shot before they clinch.  They break and are back to the center.  Jose snaps a kick to the side of Yiannis's leg.  Yiannis connects with a right hand to the side of Jose's head.

185 AM  Mike Fleming (0-0, 3V Martial Arts) vs Zach DiSabatino (0-0, SSSF)

Zach gets the quick takedown and the crowd is going nuts. He lets out a barrage of unanswered strikes and gets the stoppage.

155 AM  Ryan Cushing (1-0, Victory) vs Jimmy Schwalm (0-1, Independent)

Cushing misses with a head kick.  Jimmy connects with two knees to the body and Ryan is diving for a takedown.  Ryan finishes the takedown but can't keep Jimmy down.  Ryan moves to full mount and is getting in some ground and pound.  He has the body triangle and is looking for the finish and he gets it.

135 AM  Hannah Murello (1-0, Triumph) vs Kitauna Parker (0-0, Carlson Gracie)

They clinch and Kitauna is pressing her up against the cage.  Hannah gets in a knee.  Kit connects with a combo.  Hannah goes for the double leg takedown but can't get it.  Hannah is looking for another takedown but can't get it.  She gets in two knees from the clinch.  Hannah is looking for the single leg and can't get it.  Kit takes the back briefly and then they fall to the mat as the round ends.

Murello 10-9

Rd 2:  They come out swinging.  Hannah gets the underhooks and some knees to the body before they break.  Hannah is looking for the double leg takedown but can't get it.  They break and Hannah gets in a strike and Kit counters.  Hannah gets the takedown and the crowd cheers.  She is in half guard and gets in a few strikes to the head as the round ends.

Murello 10-9

Rd 3:  They clinch and Hannah gets in 4 knees to the body.  She tries for the single leg but can't get it.  Hannah is trying for another takedown but Kit defends it once again.  Hannah gets the takedown in the final seconds of the round.

170 AM  Scott Sullivan (0-1, MAXX) vs Andy Kurzontkowski (0-0, Rivera)

Andy just misses with a head kick.  Scott connects with a kick and they go to the mat.  Andy pushes him off and he slips backwards.  Andy is looking for the double leg and he gets it.  Andy is bleeding and he gets in some ground and pound.  Andy works a leg lock around the arm of Scott but Scott just rips his arm free.  They stand back up and swing away until the round ends.

Rd 2:  Andy misses with a kick and slips.  Scott takes advantage and moves to half guard.  He then moves to full mount and moves to arm triangle for the tap.  Wow he worked that sub fast.

170 AM Barry Liseno (1-3, Indy) vs Joe Giannetti (4-0, SSSF)

Barry connects with a combo.  Joe gets the takedown and Barry goes for an armbar.  They roll and Joe is looking for the triangle.  Barry slips through and Joe has the top position.  Joe works a guillotine and sits on him and it is wicked deep for the tap.

150 AM  Bobby Baker (0-0, Victory) vs John Douma (1-0, TriForce)

John starts the round off with a body shot.  John catches the leg kick and gets in about 10 punches before slamming Bobby down.  John takes the back and hooks the legs.  Bobby turns into it and gets out.  He pulls his arm free and they stand back up.  John scoops up Bobby and slams him to the mat.  Bobby twists and they are back to their feet again.  John's right eye is swelling up.  Bobby gets in a strike before the round ends.

Douma 10-9

Rd 2:  John trips Bobby and takes it to the mat.  Not much action for a minute and then John moves to the side.  John has a leg lock around his arms and is looking for the kimura but can't get it.

Rd 3:  Douma gets in a right hand.  Douma ducks under a punch and gets the double leg takedown.  Douma is controlling the action from the top once again.  He moves to the side and then to full mount.  He moves to an armbar and it looks deep.  Ref is on the wrong side of course and doesn't see the tap.  How is the fighter going to tap with the arm that is being cranked on.  Fortunately for Baker the round ends so hopefully not too much damage.

John Douma defeats Bobby Baker via unanimous decision.









125 AM  Mike Brown (3-3, Boston Combat) vs Max Barrett (4-4-1, GFMMA)

They come out swinging right from the bat.  Max connects and Mike goes down.  Max gets in a few more strikes and the ref stops the fight.  I feel it was a little early stoppage as it looked like Mike was trying to roll and get out.

115 AM  Devon Estes (1-1, Martinez BJJ) vs Hilarie Rose (1-0, USMMA)

Hilarie connects with a kick to the body.  Devon pulls guard and is looking for an armbar.  Hilarie gets in a few punches to the head.  Devon works an armbar and Hilarie fights it but Devon is relentless and gets the tap.

155 AM  Angelo Richardson (2-0, Speed School) vs Bobby Gasdia (1-0, SSSF)

Gasdia pulls guard with a guillotine but can't get the finish.  Angelo is dropping bombs down.  He is getting in some more ground and pound before the round ends.

Rd 2:  They come out guns blazing.  Angelo connects with an uppercut and then gets the takedown.  Angelo gets bucked off and they are back to their feet.  Bobby gets in two good knees to the body.  He gets in two uppercuts and peppers the body.  Angelo gets the takedown and is working the guard.  He finishes the round on top.

Richardson 10-9

Rd 3:  Bobby dives for a takedown and gets it.  Angelo is trying for the sweep but can't get it.  Bobby gets in a few hammerfists from the top.  Bobby is controlling this round and getting in some occasional strikes.

Gasdia 10-9

Bobby Gasdia defeats Angelo Richardson via split decision.











155 AM  Devin Carrier (2-2, Lauzon MMA) vs Chris Taylor (1-0, Victory/Redline)

Chris gets in a strike and they clinch.  Devin gets the takedown and is in half guard.  Devin gets pushed off and he immediately charges closes the distance.  Chris gets the takedown but Devin uses the cage and works his way up.  Devin connects with a knee to the body.  Devin slips in a guillotine and gets the tap with seconds left in the fight.

Cage Titans gives out their awards for the amateurs.  Max Barrett wins ko/tko of the night.  Sub of the night goes to Devin Carrier.  Fight of the night goes to John Duma and Bobby Baker.  Now onto the main card.

135 AM TITLE Will Smith (DCNU 4-0) vs. Kris Moutinho (4-2 Rivera Athletics)

Smith looks for the takedown and gets it.  Kris uses the fence and is back to his feet.  Kris gets the takedown and is working the side. He moves to full mount and then gets pushed back to the side.  Kris gets in a few shots to the head before the bell sounds.

Rd 2:  They come out swinging.  Will is looking for the single leg takedown.  Kris is thinking guillotine.   He pushes Will to the mat and is getting in shots to the head.  Kris continues to control this round with shots to the body and head.

Rd 3:  Kris misses with a head kick. Smith connects with a leg kick.  Will rushes forward and hits Kris with a strike and Kris moves for the single leg.  Kris switches to the double leg and gets the takedown near the center of the cage.  He is now working the side and has his knee in Will's head.  He has him in a crucifix and is getting in many unanswered strikes.  Will bucks and wiggles trying to get out but he can't.  He gets the stoppage.

Kris Moutinho defeats Will Smith via ref stoppage to strikes at 2:39 in Rd 3.  Kris is the new 135 lb champ and 125 lb champ.  Kris announces he will most likely go pro after this fight!











185 AM TITLE Pat McCrohan ( 4-0 Gillett's MMA) vs. Sean Evans (3-0 Simler BJJ)

Sean closes the gap quick and presses Pat up against the cage.  Pat reverses and looks for the guillotine but doesn't have it.  He tries for the guillotine again and slams him down.  He moves to full mount and cranks the guillotine and Sean goes out cold.

Pat McCrohan defeats Sean Evans via tko sub to guillotine at 1:36 in Rd 1.  And Still Champ!







180 PRO Stephen Stengel (5-11 Ind) vs. Sean Lally (3-1 GFMMA)

Sean looks for the takedown and gets it.  He is now in guard and gets in to punches before being pushed off.  Stephen gets in a takedown and is in guard.  Sean pushes him off and goes for a takedown.  Stephen has a guillotine and eventually is able to pull his head free.  He is in full mount and laying down heavy hammerfists.  Stephen turns and gives up his back.  He turns again and Sean gets in two strikes and the ref stops the fight.

145 PRO Manny Torres (2-4 Kipp's Basement)  vs. Manny Bermudez (0-0 SSSF)

Torres goes for the takedown.  Bermudez makes him pay with elbows.  Torres connects with an elbow and Bermudez finishes the takedown.  He is in half guard and then takes Torres's back.  Manny moves to full mount and is looking for ground and pound.  He goes back and forth with elbows to the side and to the head and gets the stoppage.

145 PRO Steve McCabe (6-16 Martinez BJJ) vs. Fernando Perez (6-12 NSMT)

Steve starts us off with a leg kick.  Fernando gets in an outside leg kick.  Steve connects with a overhand right.  Fernando just misses with a head kick.  Fernando dives for a takedown and he gets it.  Steve gets an armbar from the bottom and gets the verbal tap.

Steve McCabe defeats Fernando Perez via tapout to armbar at 3:03 in Rd 1.  How awesome Steve and his fiance both won by armbars on the same night!







FIGHT OF THE NIGHT:  Hannah Murello and Kitauno Parker, lots of good fights but this one just stands out in my eyes.
KO/TKO OF THE NIGHT:  Moutinho's crucifix tko finish!

Cage Titan fighters brought it tonight and not many fights went to decision.  The next Cage Titans is August 29th, 2015 and we will keep you posted on all of that.  Special thanks to Polvere and the entire Cage Titans crew for the lovely hospitality.  I am real excited that Cage Titans was filmed by The Artist/FCAT and that the videos will be posted on YouTube!!  Brendan Battles fight was scratched that very day due to Owen Finnegan having panic attacks warming up.  Sorry folks, we don't make this stuff up!  Thanks for following along and we hope you enjoyed it!
