CES 38 EVENT REVIEW 9/23/2016

    

 “THE REVIEW”

FIGHT 1: 
KRIS MOUNTINHO VS. MATTHEW MALDONADO  ( BANTAMWIEGHT)

ROUND 1:  They exchange punches and clinch up.  Kris gets the takedown.  Maldonado looks strong.  Kris looks to pass the guard.  They go back to their feet.  Kris lands some nice punches and they go back to the mat.  Maldonado gets back to his feet but Kris takes him down yet again.  The round ends with Kris on top in guard landing a few punches.

ROUND 2:  They come out exchanging on the feet.  Kris gets a nice takedown.  Nice elbows from guard by Kris as he looks to pass.  Kris stays in close landing some nice short elbows and punches from the top position in guard.  Maldonado does not have an answer for Kris’ ground game as of yet.  The round ends with Kris landing some good punches from Maldonado’s guard.

ROUND 3:  They have a nice exchange of punches and kicks on the feet.  Maldonado has slowed his pace in this round significantly.  Kris takes him down again.  Kris controls his opponent on the ground taking the dominant position and landing strikes at will.  Maldonado can’t seem to find his rhythm in this fight.  Kris is clearly the more dominant fighter in this one.  The round ends.

FIGHT 2:
LIONEL YOUNG VS. WAYNE AHLQHUIST (LIGHTWEIGHT)

ROUND 1:  They clinch up right away.  Wayne gets the fight to the mat but Young ends up on top in his guard looking to ground and pound and pass his guard.  They scramble.  Young controls from the guard.  He passes to mount but Wayne pulls him back into guard.  Young controls fight from the top with no significant damage done to close the round

ROUND 2:  They come out exchanging.  The fight goes to the mat and Young is on top landing some strikes.  They scramble and Wayne gets his back.  He looks for a choke and lands some strikes in back control as the round comes to a close.  A good round for Lionel Young.

ROUND 3:  Wayne lands some nice hard straight punches and upper cuts out of the gate.  They go to the ground and Wayne is on top of Lionel now.  Wayne looks to pass Lionel Young’s guard and he is successful as he takes back control again in this round.  They scramble and now Lionel is on top.   Wayne gets back to his feet against the fence.  Wayne is on top in Lionel’s guard landing punches as the round comes to an end.

FIGHT 3:

RICHIE SANTIAGO VS. BRANDON WARNE (FLYWEIGHT)

ROUND 1:  They exchange quick and then they lock right up quick in the clinch.  Richie gets his back and sinks in a nice rear naked choke bringing the fight to the mat and leaving Brandon with no other choice but to tapout.

FIGHT 4:

PETE “THE HEAT ROGERS JR. VS. DEREK “SHATTERPROOF” SHOREY (FEATHERWEIGHT)

ROUND 1:  They clinch right away and go to the mat.  They scramble for positioning.  Each fighter transitions from the top and bottom positions.  A great display of wrestling and jui jitsu.  Derek gets back to his feet but not for long.  Pete with a nice takedown.  Derek sinks in a nice deep  armbar for the tapout victory.

FIGHT 5:
KODY NORDBY VS. BRANDON “SOKU” SEYLER (BANTAMWEIGHT)

ROUND 1:  They go to the ground.  In a scramble, Kody looks for a heel hook but is unsuccessful.  They get back to their feet and clinch.  Kody lands a few knees.  Kody takes him down and gets into full mount.  Kody lands some strikes but Brandon reverses and gets on top.  Kody sweeps him and finishes the round in impressive fashion.

ROUND 2:  They go to the ground.  Brandon looks for a guillotine but cannot sink it in.  Kody controls Brandon on the ground.  Kody get back control and looks for the Rnc but cannot quite get it.  Cody controls the rest of the round from back control landing strikes and looking for the finish by submission.  The round comes to a close.

ROUND 3:  They clinch up and Kody gets the takedown.  Kody gets his back again and controls him in impressive fashion from there.  Kody softens him up from here with some short punches.  Kody puts him in a body triangle and controls the round from the back position.  Kody is looking to finish the fight with a choke, but Brandon defends well as the round comes to a close.

YOUR WINNER BY UNANIMOUS DECISION:  KODY NORDBY

FIGHT 6:

PAT WALSH VS. CARLOS ZEVALLOS (HEAVYWEIGHT)

ROUND 1:  They exchange some quick punches.  Pat takes Carlos down and passes to half guard.  He lands some strikes from here.  Pat lands a stiff elbow and the ref stops the fight for the Dr. to assess the fighter.  The ref stops the fight per the Doctors orders due to a large hematoma on the left side of his forehead.

FIGHT 7:

RICO DISCULLO VS. DAVID GARCIA  (BANTAMWEIGHT)

ROUND 1:  David gets the fight to the ground and lands a few strikes.  He takes his back but Rico sweeps him.  David sets up a nice kimura from the bottom using it to sweep his opponents and sinks it in from the top position for the tapout victory.

FIGHT 8:

MIKE RODRIGUEZ VS. JOHN POPPIE (MIDDLEWEIGHT)

ROUND 1:  They clinch up and it’s a battle back and forth for position.  John is using his dirty boxing skills in close to land some punches and knees.  Mike lands a nice knee up the middle.  They clinch up again and go back to the mat.  They go back up to their feet and both fighters land some nice punches in a flurry.

ROUND 2:  They exchange some punches.  They clinch up and go to the ground again. John is on top in Mike’s guard.  Mike sets up a nice triangle as John is looking to punch and advance his position past the guard.  Mike stays patient and sinks in a triangle choke for the tapout victory.

FIGHT 9: CO-MAIN EVENT

CALVIN KATTAR VS. CHRIS FOSTER (FEATHERWEIGHT)

ROUND 1:  They stand up and go toe to toe.  They exchange punches and kicks.  Chris has the better stand up game in my opinion.  Calvin’s nose is bleeding from one of the exchanges.  Chris uses his speed, technique, and outstanding head movement to execute his game plan and out strike his opponent.  Calvin gets a takedown and the round ends.

ROUND 2:  They come out striking again.  Both fighters are bleeding now.  Calvin lands some nice leg kicks and body kicks.  They go toe to toe again this round.  Calvin displays some more nice kicks from different angles.  They swing for the fences.  Chris takes him down as Calvin is getting the better of the exchanges at this point.  Calvin gets back to his feet.  They exchange punches to close out the round.  What an exciting fight!

ROUND 3:  They exchange again.  Calvin lands a nice leg kick.  A nice right hand landed by Chris.  Calvin is backing Chris up at this point in the fight.  They clinch up and Calvin takes him down.  Calvin land some nice ground and pound on the mat.  Calvin controls Chris from the top against the cage.  Calvin controls him from side control.  Calvin passes to mount and controls Chris from the top landing some strikes to end the round.

YOUR WINNER VIA UNANIMOUS DECISION IS CALVIN KATTAR

FIGHT 10: THE MAIN EVENT

SEAN SORIANO VS. LEVAN “THE HORNET” MAKASHAVILI

ROUND 1:  They exchange some punches.  Sean lands some nice leg kicks.  Sean drops him with a hard right hand and Levan shoots for a takedown.  Sean stuffs the takedown and keeps the fight standing.  Sean peppers him with some good combinations.  The two exchange a few more punches and it’s the end of round number one.

ROUND 2:  Sean continues to control the pace of this fight.  Levan takes Sean down but Sean is quick back to his feet.  Levan looks for another takedown and he gets it.  Sean gets back to his feet very briefly and Levan slams him back down to the mat.  Levan gets his back and sinks in a nice rear naked choke for the submission victory due to a tapout.
