CES MMA 38 TEASER 9/23/2016

CES returns with their 38th event this Friday.  This show will be held at the Foxwood Resort Casino instead of their usual Twin River Casino event.  There have been some changes to the CES card so lucky for you all we got the updated fight card below.  There are a total of 10 pro fights on the night and as always there are all very well matched.  The Boss And Selva will be making the trip to Foxwoods to cover the fight for you all.  In the meantime as we all await the show let me break down the fight card for you.

135 PRO Kris Moutinho (BST 0-0) vs. Matthew Maldonado (King's Thai Boxing 0-0)

First fight is between Kris Moutinho against Matthew Maldonado.  Kris trains with RAC and will be making his much anticipated pro debut.  No one is as ready for a pro debut as Kris Moutinho.  As an amateur he fought and won multiple weight class titles and had a 6-2-1 record.  As I said he will be more than ready for his pro debut.  His opponent is Matthew Maldonado and he trains with King's Thai Boxing.  He will also be making his pro debut.  I was not able to find any information on Matthew as an amateur so we will have to wait and see what he brings to the table.  I see Moutinho winning this one by submission in Rd 2.

155 PRO Lionel Young (Redline 7-15) vs. Wayne Ahlqhuist (LRVT 1-3)

At 155 lbs Lionel Young will take on Wayne Ahlqhuist.  Young trains with Redline and comes into this fight with a 7-15 record.  Lionel is fresh off a spectacular head kick knockout from Blockbuster MMA.  Lionel has won just about the rest of his wins all by submission. For his losses, he lost many by ko/tko to strikes and submission.  Lionel is a well seasoned veteran who has been fighting professionally since 2009 and in this fight he brings the experience.  His opponent is Wayne Ahlqhuist and he trains with Lake Region Valley Tudo.  Wayne comes into this fight with a 1-3 record with 1 win by ko/tko.  For his losses, he lost 2 by ko/tko and 1 by decision.  I see this one being a close battle with both fighters striking it out.  I see Lionel winning this one by ko/tko to strikes in Rd 2.

145 PRO Pete Rogers Jr. (RAM 2-3) vs. Derek Shorey ( Shatterproof Combat 3-7)

Then Pete Rogers Jr faces off against Derek Shorey at 145 lbs.  Pete trains with RAM and comes into this fight with a 2-3 record.  He has 1 win by ko/tko and 1 win by submission to punches.  For his losses, he lost 3 by way of submission.  His opponent is Derek Shorey and he trains with Shatterproof Combat.  Derek comes into this fight with a 3-7 record with 2 wins by ko/tko and 1 win by submission.  He lost 6 out of his 7 fights by way of submission.  I think this will be a close battle as both fighters will want to stand and strike.  I think either fighter could win this one and I don't see it going to a decision.

125 PRO Rich Santiago (BST 0-0) vs. Brandon Warne (Bombsquad 2-1)

At 125 lbs Rich Santiago takes on Brandon Warne.  Santiago trains with RAC and will be making his pro debut.  Rich as an amateur went 5-4 and has improved big time over the last year or so.  He started out his amateur career 1-4 and since then turned his amateur career around.  He impresses me each and every fight and also won the Cage Titans title.  It is also pretty cool to be making his pro debut with his brother in arms Kris Moutinho the same night.  His opponent is Brandon Warne and he trains with Bombsquad.  He comes into this fight with a 2-1 record with a submission victory.  Being from Bombsquad you know he is tough.  I see this fight being very even and too close to call.

170 PRO Mike Rodriguez ( Lauzon 4-1) vs. John Poppie (Chosen Few Gym 7-3)

At 170 lbs Mike Rodriguez will take on John Poppie.  Mike trains with Lauzon MMA and comes into this fight with a 4-1 record.  For his wins he has 3 wins by ko/tko and 1 by submission.  His only pro loss came by decision to Pat McCrohan.  His opponent is John Poppie and he trains with Chosen Few Gym.  He comes into this fight with a 7-3 record.  In the win column he has 2 by ko/tko, 3 by submission and 2 by decision.  For his losses, he lost 2 by ko/tko and 1 by submission.  This fight is tough to decide as I have never seen Poppie fight nor his previous opponents.  I see this one being a stand up war and I of course will be rooting for Rodriguez to get the KO!

135 PRO Kody Nordby ( Top Flight Wrestling 6-4) vs. Brandon Seyler (Next Generation 5-3-1)

At 135 lbs Kody Nordby will be taking on Brandon Seyler.  Kody trains with Top Flight Wrestling and comes into this fight with a 6-4 record.  He has all 6 wins by way of submission.  For his losses, he has 1 ko/tko, 2 sub and 1 by decision.  He is a great wrestler and comes out very aggressive each fight.  His opponent is Brandon Seyler and he trains with Next Generation mma.  He comes into this fight with a 5-3-1 record with 1 ko/tko and 4 submission wins.  For his losses, he has 1 loss by submission and 2 by decisions.  As you can see on paper both of these fighters are very similar in record and many wins by submission.  I see this one being a ground battle and Nordy winning by submission in Rd 2.

HVY PRO Pat Walsh (Victory MMA 8-2) vs. Carlos Zevallos (Arena Combat Sports 3-3)

Next up is a heavyweight showdown between Pat Walsh and Carlos Zevallos.  Walsh trains with Victory MMA and comes into this fight with a 8-2 record with 3 ko/tko, 1 sub and 4 decision wins.  For his 2 losses, he lost 1 by submission and 1 by decision.  His opponent is Carlos Zevallos and he trains with Arena Combat Sports.  Carlos comes into this fight with a 3-3 record with 1 ko/tko, 1 sub and 1 decision victory so far in his pro career.  For his losses, he lost 2 by ko/tko and 1 by decision.  I see Pat Walsh winning this one by submission in Rd 2.

135 PRO Rico Disciullo (Sityodtong 6-0) vs. David Garcia (Team Mac 3-2-1)

At 135 lbs Rico Discullo will face off against David Garcia.  Rico trains with Sityodtong and comes into this fight with a 6-0 record.  In the win column, he has 2 by ko/tko, 1 submission and 3 by decision.  His opponent is David Garcia and he trains with Team Mac.  He comes into this fight with a 3-2-1 record with 2 wins by ko/tko and 1 by submission.  For his losses, he lost 2 of them by submission.  Once again, another good battle for CES and I see Rico winning this one by ko/tko in Rd 1.

145 PRO Calvin Kattar (Sityodtong 15-2) vs. Chris Foster (Nova Uniao 9-4)

Calvin Kattar steps into the CES cage against Chris Foster at 145 lbs.  Calvin trains with Sityodtong and comes into this fight with a 15-2 record.  For the win column, he has 6 ko/tko, 3 sub and 6 decisions.  For his losses, he lost 1 by split decision and 1 by submission.  Calvin is very talented and has proven he can finish fights.  Not to mention he is a pretty sweet matchmaker/promoter too!  His opponent is Chris Foster and he trains with Nova Uniao.  He comes into this fight with a 9-4 record with 5 ko/tko and 4 decision wins.  For his losses, he lost 1 ko/tko, 2 sub and 1 decision.  Man, this fight is a tough one to call as I love watching both of them fight.  I see this one going either way and coming down to a decision.

145 PRO Sean Soriano (Blackzillians 9-4) vs. Levan Makashavili (Mutant MMA 8-2)

In the main event Sean Soriano takes on Levan Makashavili at 145 lbs.  Sean trains with Blackzillians and comes into this fight with a 9-4 record.  In the win column, he has 4 wins by ko/tko, 3 by submission and 2 decisions.  For his losses, he has 1 ko/tko, 2 sub and 1 decision.  He has fought for the UFC and has been training hard in Florida ready to show off what he has been learning for the CES fans.  His opponent is Levan Makashavili and he trains with Mutant MMA.  He comes into this fight with an 8-2 record with 3 wins by ko/tko and 5 wins by decision.  For his 2 losses, he lost both of them by decision.  He is also a UFC veteran so get ready fight fans.  This fight really could go either way but I will be rooting for the New England native Sean Soriano to take this one.
