SMITH WILL DEFEND WELTERWEIGHT TITLE AGAINST NORMAN IN PORTLAND

Duncan Smith
[NEF PRESS RELEASE]

Portland, Maine (September 17, 2019) – New England Fights (NEF) returns to Aura in Portland, Maine on November 9, 2019 with its next mixed-martial-arts event, “NEF 41: Collision Course.”  Earlier today, NEF announced the addition of an amateur welterweight title fight to the card.  Duncan “The Highlander” Smith (5-3) is scheduled to defend the NEF Amateur Welterweight Championship against Jordan Norman (2-1).

Duncan Smith has held the 170-pound title since June 2018 when he defeated Carlton Charles (3-2) by fourth-round submission at “NEF 34” in Portland for the then-vacant belt.  He is a perfect 3-0 in the NEF cage as an amateur.  In his most recent appearance with the promotion, Smith successfully defended his title against Jon Tefft (2-1) this past April at “NEF 38.”  He represents Evolution Athletix based in Saco, Maine.

"This is no disrespect, this is just facts,” said Smith, “Jordan's a great guy, but I know I'm better than him everywhere. He's strong, he has a chance, but I don't play the lottery - I have much more than a chance."

Jordan Norman
Jordan Norman has been one of the inspirational stories of the past year in NEF.  Norman was knocked out in just seven seconds in his amateur debut at “NEF 34” in June 2018.  Rather than give up on the sport as many would have, Norman trained hard and returned to the NEF cage a much-improved competitor.  He defeated Jon Assam (1-1) via split decision at “NEF 36” last fall and then picked up a technical knockout victory over Greg Ishihara (1-1) at “NEF 38” this past April.  Norman represents the Bad Little Falls Dojo of Machias, Maine where he trains under NEF veteran Crowsneck Boutin (2-3).

“It’s always a great atmosphere at Aura in Portland,” noted Norman. “I’m looking forward to being back and excited to compete for the NEF Amateur Welterweight Title. Thank you Matt (Peterson, NEF co-owner and matchmaker), Nick (DiSalvo, NEF co-owner and promoter), and Duncan for the opportunity.”

New England Fights' next mixed-martial-arts event, "NEF 41: Collision Course," will take place on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at Aura in Portland, Maine. Tickets are on sale now at www.auramaine.com.
