Auburn, Maine (April 20, 2022) – New England Fights (NEF) returns with its next mixed-martial-arts (MMA) event “NEF 47: The Battle of L/A” on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at the Norway Savings Bank Arena in Auburn, Maine. Earlier today, the fight promotion announced the addition of an amateur bantamweight championship bout to the card. Felipe Günter (4-1) will defend the NEF Amateur Bantamweight Title against Billy Markle (4-1) at a fight weight of 135 pounds.
Felipe Günter captured the vacant bantamweight strap last November with a third-round submission of Teddy Politis (2-1). It was the culmination of a four-fight win streak for Günter that began three years earlier at “NEF 36.” It was also the third submission finish of Günter’s young career. He is undefeated to date in the NEF cage and on Maine soil. Günter currently represents First Class MMA based in Brunswick, Maine.
"I'm looking forward to defending the title against an experienced and game opponent,” said Günter. “We've made some tweaks to my game in this last camp, and I'm excited to display those improvements on May 14th. This fight will be a banger."
Billy Markle’s amateur career dates back to 2015. He is presently riding a four-fight win streak including three wins by unanimous decision and one by submission. Markle holds a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and represents Driven Gym of New Jersey.
