Auburn, Maine (April 26, 2022) – New England Fights (NEF) returns with its next mixed-martial-arts (MMA) event “NEF 47: The Battle of L/A” on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at the Norway Savings Bank Arena in Auburn, Maine. Earlier today, the fight promotion announced the addition of an amateur flyweight title bout to the card. Tyler Smythe (4-2) will defend the NEF Amateur Flyweight Championship against the challenge of DeQuan Meeks (4-3) at a fight weight of 125 pounds.
Tyler “Butter Knife” Smythe will be defending not only the flyweight strap but also his unblemished record inside the NEF cage. Smythe is a perfect 3-0 with the promotion with two submissions and one knockout victory. He captured the flyweight title last November by handing then-undefeated Caleb Austin (5-1) the first loss of his amateur career. Smythe returned to the NEF cage this past February at “NEF 46” and successfully defended the belt against Ryan Burgess (3-3) with an impressive first-round submission. He currently represents Evolution Athletix based in Saco, Maine.
“I’m undefeated in the NEF cage and I plan to keep it that way,” Smythe said. “I’ve got a chip on my shoulder and this kid’s gonna get the shitty end of the stick.”
Like Smythe, DeQuan Meeks is also the holder of a regional flyweight title. He will make the trek from his home in Nevada to challenge Smythe for the NEF strap. Two of Meeks’ previous wins have come by submission with another two wins by decision. He is currently riding a two-fight win streak. Meeks has competed in the sport since 2017. The fight with Smythe will be his first on the New England circuit.
“I’m very excited to come to Maine to challenge the defending NEF Champ,” exclaimed Meeks. “Like Smythe, I’m also a current 125 title holder. We have different styles that will make for great entertainment for the crowd!”
“NEF 47: The Battle of L/A” takes place on May 14, 2022, at the Norway Savings Bank Arena in Auburn, Maine. Tickets for the event are on sale now at www.NewEnglandFights.com/Tickets/. The event will be the promotion’s first in Lewiston-Auburn since June 2019.
