New England Fights! Announces Fight Card for February 2 Event

Lewiston, Maine (January 11, 2013) -- New England Fights! (NEF) is pleased to announce the fight card for the promotion's Fight Night VI event. Fight Night VI, a mixed-martial arts ("MMA") event, is scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 2 at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston. Doors will open to the public at 5:00 pm, and the first fight is set to begin at 6:00 pm.

"NEF is starting off 2013 the same way it finished 2012 - with an exciting fight card filled with local standouts," stated NEF co-owner and promoter Nick DiSalvo. "And the entire card centers around a great main event featuring Jesse Peterson (7-2) and Greg Rebello (14-5) in a battle for the NEF Maine State Light Heavyweight Title. Jesse won the Maine State Middleweight Title back in September, so now he has the opportunity to not only compete, but to be a champion, in two separate divisions. Rebello's been to the big dance before. He's a Bellator veteran, fought in the preliminary round of the UFC’s groundbreaking “The Ultimate Fighter” reality series, and is currently the number-three ranked light heavyweight in the Northeast. This fight is a main event anywhere in New England on any night of the week."

DiSalvo says that the promotion expects to have tickets on sale at the door on February 2, but warns fans to get tickets early as the promotion had already sold more tickets for the event three-weeks out than it had sold on all previous events.

"Lewiston is now the place to be if you're an MMA fighter,” continued DiSalvo. “Matt (Peterson) and I get calls and emails from fighters and managers all over the world asking to come fight here at the Colisee."

When it came to putting the Fight Night VI card together, however, NEF needed look no further than its own backyard.

"There's so much talent right here in Maine," said NEF co-owner and matchmaker Matt Peterson. "It’s been a pleasure to work with the teams that have really helped the sport take shape here. This card is just filled with talent from those teams. In addition, we have several fighters on this card with Maine roots that have moved on to train in other parts of the country."

The card will feature the NEF debuts of two such athletes in Ryan Hodge (4-6) and Luc Bondole (1-0). Hodge and Bondole, who will face one another in a pro middleweight scrap, now live and train in Florida and Southern California respectively, but both have ties to Maine. In addition, Fight Night VI will see the return of the ever-popular Brandon Bushaw (4-2) to the NEF cage. Born in Lincoln, Bushaw was a standout wrestler at Westbrook High School where he was selected as all-state and all-conference twice and was later inducted into the Maine Amateur Wrestling Alliance Hall of Fame. He now lives and trains in South Carolina, but Bushaw returned home for NEF's November card to score a decision victory over Nick Spencer (2-2).

"This card shows the depth of Maine's talent pool for MMA," continued Peterson who, as a state representative, supported the legislation that legalized and regulated the sport in Maine. "I'm proud of how far the sport has come in this state. In 2013, NEF will take Maine MMA to the next level, and Fight Night VI will be the first step in that direction."
