Bangor, Maine (June 20, 2013) – New England Fights! (NEF) today announced the fight card for its July 12 outdoor event at Darling's Waterfront Pavilion in Bangor. Entitled "Nations Collide: Canadian Invasion," the patriotic show will feature several bouts pitting American mixed-martial artists against their Canadian counterparts.
The main event for the July 12 card, already announced earlier this month, will feature undefeated top-prospect, and Bucksport resident, Ray "All Business" Wood (3-0) of local gym Young's MMA battling Lenny Wheeler to determine the first-ever Maine State MMA Featherweight Champion. Wheeler, a native of Prince Edward Island, represents respected Canadian team Wulfrun MMA. Sporting an impressive 6-2 record as a professional fighter, Wheeler has not lost a fight in more than two years.
In the co-main event of the evening, Team Irish's Jon Lemke (3-0) will meet fellow undefeated pro Matt DesRoches (4-0) also of Wulfrun MMA in Cornwall, Prince Edward Island, Canada. Lemke, a Bellator veteran, is coming off a win last month at NEF VII in Lewiston, Maine. DesRoches, whose four victories as a pro have all come by way of either first or second round stoppages, will be Lemke's toughest test to date.
