BUCK PINEAU AND JUSTIN BURRILL TO MAKE LONG-AWAITED RETURNS AT NEF 42

[NEF PRESS RELEASE]

Portland, Maine (December 17, 2019) – New England Fights (NEF) will hold its next mixed-martial-arts (MMA) event, "NEF 42: Symphony of Destruction," on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Merrill Auditorium in Portland.  Earlier today, NEF announced the addition of a professional light-heavyweight bout to the card.  Buck “Knuckles” Pineau (1-6) will face Justin Burrill (3-2) at a fight weight of 205 pounds.

Buck Pineau competed on eight of the first 14 NEF events as an amateur going 4-4.  In one of the most memorable fights to ever take place in the NEF cage, Pineau won a unanimous decision over Isaiah Queen (2-4) in the main event of “NEF 9.”  In the first round Pineau suffered a fractured knee with three torn ligaments.  He continued the fight hobbling on one leg in an incredibly gutsy performance that will never be forgotten by those who were at the Biddeford Arena that night.  The fight with Burrill will be Pineau’s first in more than five years with NEF, and it will also be his first professional fight with the promotion.  Over all, Pineau has not competed since the summer of 2018.

“I’m more than excited for the chance to step back into the NEF cage and put on a show,” exclaimed Pineau.  “I want to thank New England Fights and my opponent for the opportunity! I’m expecting a scrap February 8th, so I’ll be letting my hands and feet go, looking for the finish!”

Like Pineau, it has been some time since Justin Burrill has competed in the MMA cage.  And while Burrill will be making his NEF debut on February 8, he is the furthest thing from a newcomer to the sport as a whole.  Burrill began his fight career over twelve years ago in 2007.  He has competed in 2013, winning via first-round technical knockout on a card in Massachusetts.  Burrill represents South Shore Sportfighting based in Rockland, Massachusetts.

"I am excited to end my fighting layoff with NEF and what promises to be an exciting card,” said Burrill. “I am moving up a few weight classes which makes for an easy, enjoyable fight camp. Buck let's give ’em a show!”
