📰 NEWS--📰 LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHTS WILL THROW DOWN AT NEF 48 IN PORTLAND

[NEF PRESS RELEASE]

Portland, Maine (June 26, 2022) – New England Fights (NEF) returns with its next mixed-martial-arts (MMA) event “NEF 48: Heatwave” on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at the Rink at Thompson’s Point in Portland, Maine.  The event will be NEF’s first outdoor event since “NEF 8” in 2013.  Earlier today, the fight promotion announced the addition of an amateur light heavyweight bout to the card.  Seth Godfrey (1-0) will face Jared Turcotte (0-0) at a fight weight of 205 pounds.

Seth Godfrey made his amateur MMA debut last month at “NEF 47” in Auburn, Maine.  It took Godfrey a mere 37 seconds to score a technical knockout victory over the more experienced George Pissimissis (1-3).  Godfrey is a product of Titan Athletics based in Brewer, Maine.

“It’s Jared’s first fight so he’s a complete unknown, but underestimating him would be a huge mistake,” said Godfrey. “I walked into my first fight an unknown, and walked out 37-seconds later with the W. So I’m preparing for the biggest, meanest, toughest son of a bitch this side of the Mississippi, and I’m going to make it one hell of a scrap.”

Jared Turcotte may be a newcomer to the MMA cage, but his accomplishments on the football field are nothing short of legendary.  Turcotte had 4,562 yards on offense and 554 tackles on defense playing for Lewiston High School in Lewiston, Maine.  During his senior season, Turcotte won the prestigious Fitzpatrick Award and was named the Maine Gatorade Player of the Year.  He later played for the University of Maine at Orono.  In 2019, Turcotte was inducted into the Auburn-Lewiston Hall of Fame.  He currently represents Central Maine Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (CMBJJ) in Lewiston as he prepares to make his MMA debut.

"I’m appreciative and extremely excited for the opportunity presented by NEF to get into the cage for the first time,” said Turcotte.  “I hope to provide excitement for all of the fight fans in attendance and aim to perform at a level that makes my coaches, training partners, teammates, and family proud."

“NEF 48: Heatwave” takes place on July 30, 2022, at the Rink at Thompson’s Point in Portland, Maine.  Tickets for the event are on sale now at www.NewEnglandFights.com/Tickets/.  The event will be the promotion’s first in the outdoors since 2013.
