📰 NEWS--📰 QUINN POIRIER RETURNS TO FACE ALEX MORRIS AT NEF 48

[NEF PRESS RELEASE]

Portland, Maine (July 15, 2022) – New England Fights (NEF) returns with its next mixed-martial-arts (MMA) event “NEF 48: Heatwave” on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at the Rink at Thompson’s Point in Portland, Maine.  The event will be NEF’s first outdoor event since “NEF 8” in 2013.  Earlier today, the fight promotion announced the addition of an amateur catchweight bout to the card.  Quinn Poirier (0-1) will meet Alex Morris (0-0) at a weight of 130 pounds.

Quinn Poirier made his amateur debut at “NEF 46” in Portland, Maine earlier this year.  He would lose via submission to Key Baltazar (1-0) in the second round in a fight that featured some wild back-and-forth striking.  Poirier will have the opportunity to avenge the loss on July 30th in the fight with Baltazar’s Nostos MMA teammate Alex Morris.  Poirier represents First Class MMA of Brunswick, Maine under head coach John Raio.

“Anyone who saw my last fight knows I can throw down,” said Poirier. “I’m gonna keep my composure and set off fireworks like the Fourth of July. This time I’m evening my record.”

Alex Morris will make his amateur debut at “NEF 48.”  He is confident that his team will have him ready for the bout.  As previously noted, Morris is a member of Nostos MMA based in Somersworth, New Hampshire where he trains under UFC and Bellator veteran, and former NEF Professional Lightweight Champion, Devin Powell (10-5).

“My first time ever going to watch a live MMA event was Combat Zone 26 when I was 13 years old,” noted Morris. “We went to support a local up and coming fighter from Methuen in his first main event following a tough loss down in New Jersey. Little did I realize that also fighting on that card making his MMA debut was Cody Lightfoot. I originally wanted to have my first fight with CZ as that's where I first fell in love with MMA, but once I heard Cody was on this card, speaking with my coach Devin Powell, alongside being able to make my debut with six other Nostos fighters, and it being outside, I knew that NEF 48: Heatwave was where I wanted to make my debut.

“I've worked hard over the last two years to get my opportunity to step into the cage and I'm excited that my time is finally here,” Morris continued.  “I'm ready to put on a performance not only for the fans, but most of all, my family and friends, that have always shown their support for me in sports and my rehabilitation, where for about a year I thought I would never get a chance to be able to do this because of physical circumstances.

“I train with the best team in New England and will be ready to take this fight wherever I need to get the finish.”

“NEF 48: Heatwave” takes place on July 30, 2022, at the Rink at Thompson’s Point in Portland, Maine.  Tickets for the event are on sale now at www.NewEnglandFights.com/Tickets/.  The event will be the promotion’s first in the outdoors since 2013.
