[NEF PRESS RELEASE]
Portland, Maine (June 30, 2023) – New England Fights returns to Merrill Auditorium in Portland with its next mixed-martial-arts (MMA) event, “NEF 53: American Valor,” on Saturday, July 8, 2023. Earlier today, the fight promotion announced the addition of an amateur flyweight bout to the card. Alex Morris (1-1) will meet Timm Murray (1-1) at a fight weight of 125 pounds.
Alex “The Alley Cat” Morris is an even .500 in the NEF cage. He debuted at “NEF 48” in the summer of 2022 with a first-round technical knockout of Quinn Poirier (0-3) in what was a gritty slugfest while it lasted. Morris returned to the cage last month at “NEF 52” to face Qasim Abdulla (2-0). He lost a decision in a hard-fought contest. Morris represents Nostos MMA based in Somersworth, New Hampshire where he trains under UFC veteran and former NEF Pro Lightweight Champion Devin Powell (10-5).
“I’m looking forward to getting back on the winning side of things and set myself up for an exciting, fight-filled year in 2024,” said Morris.
Timm “The Fighting Chef” Murray will step into the NEF cage for the third time on July 8. It has been nearly two years since his last fight at “NEF 44” in Milford, New Hampshire. Murray lost his amateur debut to Randall Hathorn (1-2) at “NEF 42.” He rebounded with a leg kick knockout of Giuliano Rossi (0-2) in the summer of 2021. Murray represents Primo Bellarosa’s VisionQuest Muay Thai based in Pittsfield, Maine.
“It’s been a couple of years since my last fight. It feels like much longer than that,” noted Murray. “However, I have had the ability to spend more time at VisionQuest, with the team and Primo’s coaching second to none. We have evolved so much as a team and it’s an honor to share the cage with them on July 8th.”
“NEF 53: American Valor” takes place on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Merrill Auditorium in Portland, Maine. Doors are scheduled to open at 6 pm with first fight taking place at 7 pm. Tickets to “NEF 53” are available now at www.porttix.com.

Alex “The Alley Cat” Morris is fueled by aspirations no different than any amateur mixed martial artist aiming to grow his craft and his reputation with New England Fights.
Somewhere in the back of his mind, the flyweight from Salem, New Hampshire, trains most every day at Nostos MMA in nearby Somersworth with the dream of making it to Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) or Bellator MMA pushing him through the perspiration, blood and hours away from his family and friends.
If the 27-year-old never becomes one of the precious few to parlay his talent and opportunity into a sniff of that rare air, Morris still would love to be almost front and center with the eyes of the world focused on an adjacent cage.
One of Morris’ other passions is photography. Long before his debut last summer with a 64-second stoppage of Quinn Poirier, Morris made his inroads to the sport by taking MMA dressing room and action photos on his own time, as described to host Steve Domenico in a recent episode of “The Room Podcast.”

Portland, Maine (April 10, 2023) – New England Fights (NEF) returns to Aura in Portland, Maine on Saturday, May 13, 2023, with its next mixed-martial-arts (MMA) event “NEF 52: Zero Hour.” Earlier today, the fight promotion announced the addition of an amateur flyweight bout to the card. Alex Morris (1-0) will meet Qasim Abdulla (1-0) at a fight weight of 125 pounds.
Alex Morris was explosive in his amateur MMA debut last summer at “NEF 48,” making quick work of Quinn Poirier (0-2). Morris had Poirier on the mat mere seconds into the first round and was raining down bombs on his opponent. Poirier was able to get back to his feet and land a couple of punches that Morris weathered before dropping Poirier with a right hand, prompting the referee to stop the bout. Morris represents Nostos MMA based in Somersworth, New Hampshire where he trains under UFC veteran and former NEF Professional Lightweight Champion Devin Powell.

Portland, Maine (July 15, 2022) – New England Fights (NEF) returns with its next mixed-martial-arts (MMA) event “NEF 48: Heatwave” on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at the Rink at Thompson’s Point in Portland, Maine. The event will be NEF’s first outdoor event since “NEF 8” in 2013. Earlier today, the fight promotion announced the addition of an amateur catchweight bout to the card. Quinn Poirier (0-1) will meet Alex Morris (0-0) at a weight of 130 pounds.
Quinn Poirier made his amateur debut at “NEF 46” in Portland, Maine earlier this year. He would lose via submission to Key Baltazar (1-0) in the second round in a fight that featured some wild back-and-forth striking. Poirier will have the opportunity to avenge the loss on July 30th in the fight with Baltazar’s Nostos MMA teammate Alex Morris. Poirier represents First Class MMA of Brunswick, Maine under head coach John Raio.
“Anyone who saw my last fight knows I can throw down,” said Poirier. “I’m gonna keep my composure and set off fireworks like the Fourth of July. This time I’m evening my record.”
