Bangor, Maine (September 5, 2022) – New England Fights (NEF) returns to Bangor, Maine on Friday, September 9, 2022, with its next mixed-martial-arts (MMA) event “NEF 49: Queen City Showdown.” It will be NEF’s first event in Bangor in more than three years. Earlier today, the fight promotion announced the addition of a professional lightweight bout to the card. Jimmy Jackson (0-0) will face Aaron Hughes (1-3) at a fight weight of 155 pounds.
The fight will be the pro debut for Jimmy Jackson who went 4-4 as an amateur competing in the sport since 2012. Jackson last stepped foot in the NEF cage as a competitor in September 2019 at “NEF 40” in nearby Orono, Maine. He had challenged for both the promotion’s featherweight and lightweight titles as an amateur. Jackson currently represents Young’s MMA based in Orrington, Maine.
“I’m super pumped about this fight,” said Jackson. “I love fighting in Bangor in front of family, friends, and close fans. I don't know much about my opponent; I’ve just been focusing on myself lately and being the best I can be so I can put on one hell of a show for my people. Fans can expect me to put everything I can on display for them no matter where the fight goes.”
Aaron Hughes will compete in the NEF cage for the third time in 13 months. In his most recent appearance with the promotion, Hughes lost to Anthony Vasta (1-2) last May at “NEF 47” in Auburn, Maine. He will look for his first win since an April 2021 second-round finish of Tyler Edwards (0-3) on a fight card in Tennessee. Hughes represents Regiment Training Center based in Fall River, Massachusetts.
“I know if I believe in myself and my skills I’m one of the best in the area,” said Hughes. “I’ve proved it in the gym multiple times. No promotion, no interviews for this fight, just grinding. We’ll see who’s better.”
