📰 NEWS--📰 LONG-AWAITED GRUDGE MATCH WILL FINALLY TAKE PLACE AT NEF 50

[NEF PRESS RELEASE]

Portland, Maine (October 22, 2022) – New England Fights (NEF) returns to Aura in Portland, Maine on Saturday, November 12, 2022, with its next mixed-martial-arts (MMA) event “NEF 50.”  Earlier today the fight promotion announced the addition of a professional featherweight bout to the card.  Matt Denning (7-16) will take on Carl Langston (2-6) at a fight weight of 145 pounds.

The rivalry between Denning and Langston has been brewing for years.  They were scheduled to meet each other as amateurs in 2014, but the fight was canceled.  The pair has exchanged banter on social media for some time.  A professional fight was never made, however, due to the disparity in weight between them.  With Denning dropping back down to the featherweight division, the grudge match has finally become a reality.

Matt Denning has been one of the most active fighters in the New England region in 2022.  “NEF 50” will mark Denning’s eighth fight this calendar year, including one pro boxing bout.  He is on a two-fight losing streak this fall after putting together back-to-back wins last summer.  Denning has vowed to end Langston’s career on November 12.

“I wanted the fight, I got the fight,” said Denning. “I’m gonna put him through hell. I’m back in the 145-pound division and I’m going to make a statement with this fight! I’m going to finally retire this bum.”

2022 has been a banner year so far for Carl Langston as a professional.  After a slow start to his pro career, Langston is undefeated this year in the cage.  He started the year with a first-round submission of Zac Richard (1-2) in a rematch of their bout from November 2021.  Langston had taken the second fight with Richard on just a few days’ notice.  He followed up that win with a unanimous decision victory over Zenon Herrera (1-9) last spring at “NEF 47.”  Langston looks to keep his win-streak alive in the grudge match with Denning.

“First, I’d like to thank NEF for having me back,” said Langston “This fight with Denning has been a very long time coming. He did everything he could do to avoid fighting me as amateurs by pulling out of at least two fights. Now he has some fake beef with me that he says came from when he was kicked out of his old gym. But what the problem really comes down to is Denning is delusional and the biggest two-faced guy I have ever come across who’s just fighting for a check. I’m going to smash him and keep this winning streak. I really hope he can make the weight so I can shut his mouth on November 12th.”

“NEF 50” is scheduled for Saturday, November 12 at Aura in Portland, Maine.  Doors will open at 6 p.m. with first fight taking place at 7 p.m.  Tickets are available now at TicketMaster.com.
