📰 NEWS--📰 GRIMARD AND LANGSTON TO MEET IN FEATHERWEIGHT BOUT IN BANGOR

[NEF PRESS RELEASE]

Bangor, Maine (January 5, 2023) – New England Fights (NEF) returns to the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, Maine on February 11, 2023, with its next mixed-martial-arts (MMA) event “NEF 51: Banger in Bangor.”  Earlier today, the fight promotion announced the addition of a professional featherweight bout to the card.  Nathaniel Grimard (2-2) is scheduled to face Carl Langston (2-7) at a fight weight of 145 pounds.

Nathaniel Grimard turned pro in 2022 after a successful amateur career that saw him go 4-1 and capture the NEF Amateur Featherweight Title.  He won his first two professional bouts via unanimous decision over Anthony Vasta (1-3) and Andrew Provost (1-1) respectively.  Grimard then lost his next two in a row by first-round submission to close out the calendar year.  He will be looking to start 2023 off like he did 2022 – in the win column.  Grimard represents Nostos MMA based in Somersworth, New Hampshire where he trains under UFC veteran and former NEF Professional Lightweight Champion Devin Powell (10-5).

📰 NEWS--📰 TRASH TALK RAMPS UP AHEAD OF NEF 50 GRUDGE MATCH

[NEF PRESS RELEASE]

Portland, Maine (October 30, 2022)

The adrenaline-fueled, supervised violence that makes it a worldwide phenomenon notwithstanding, mixed martial arts is paradoxically most often a gentlemen’s or ladies’ sport.

Talking smack before the event and bloodying the opposition during the fight are strictly business, as evidenced by how quickly the combatants embrace and make plans to sit down together with a cold beverage afterward.

There’s no such love or even mutual respect waiting to blossom while New England Fights (NEF) veterans Matthew Denning (7-16) and Carl Langston (2-6) are in the cage together Saturday. November 12 at Aura in Portland, Maine.

When months if not years of attempts to pair the journeymen come to fruition with a professional featherweight bout at NEF 50, it will light the fuse underneath two resilient dudes who flat-out don’t like each other.

“As a person, Carl Langston and I shouldn’t be in the same room together, ‘cause I’ll smack him in the mouth whether we’re getting paid to or not,” Denning said.

📰 NEWS--📰 LONG-AWAITED GRUDGE MATCH WILL FINALLY TAKE PLACE AT NEF 50

[NEF PRESS RELEASE]

Portland, Maine (October 22, 2022) – New England Fights (NEF) returns to Aura in Portland, Maine on Saturday, November 12, 2022, with its next mixed-martial-arts (MMA) event “NEF 50.”  Earlier today the fight promotion announced the addition of a professional featherweight bout to the card.  Matt Denning (7-16) will take on Carl Langston (2-6) at a fight weight of 145 pounds.

The rivalry between Denning and Langston has been brewing for years.  They were scheduled to meet each other as amateurs in 2014, but the fight was canceled.  The pair has exchanged banter on social media for some time.  A professional fight was never made, however, due to the disparity in weight between them.  With Denning dropping back down to the featherweight division, the grudge match has finally become a reality.

Matt Denning has been one of the most active fighters in the New England region in 2022.  “NEF 50” will mark Denning’s eighth fight this calendar year, including one pro boxing bout.  He is on a two-fight losing streak this fall after putting together back-to-back wins last summer.  Denning has vowed to end Langston’s career on November 12.

🚨BREAKING--🚨 LANGSTON TO MEET HERRERA IN LIGHTWEIGHT BOUT AT NEF 47

 [NEF PRESS RELEASE]

Auburn, Maine (April 27, 2022) – New England Fights (NEF) returns with its next mixed-martial-arts (MMA) event “NEF 47: The Battle of L/A” on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at the Norway Savings Bank Arena in Auburn, Maine.  Earlier today, the fight promotion announced the addition of a professional lightweight bout to the card.  Carl Langston (1-6) is scheduled to face Zenon Herrera (1-8) at a fight weight of 155 pounds.

Carl Langston is coming off the long sought-after first win of his professional career last February at “NEF 46.”  Langston accepted a fight on short notice with Zac Richard (1-2) after Richard’s original opponent pulled out the week before the event.  It took Langston a mere 1:21 to submit Richard in the first round and score the upset.  That fight was a rematch of a November 2021 meeting that saw Richard defeat Langston via first round technical knockout.  The win put an end to a six-fight skid for Langston that started with his pro debut in the spring of 2018.  Langston will now look for his second win as a professional on May 14 against Herrera.

“I want to thank NEF for this fight,” said Langston. “They do a good job getting me opponents. Everyone knows that I’m way better than my record. It was a matter of showing up mentally and I did that in my last fight against Zac. I know the mindset I need to get in to go out there and perform the way everyone knows I can. Zenon is just another guy on the hit list and I’ll be getting my hand raised at all cost come May 14th.”

📰NEWS--📰 LANGSTON STEPS IN TO REMATCH RICHARD AT NEF 46 THIS SATURDAY

[NEF PRESS RELEASE]

Portland, Maine (February 8, 2022) – New England Fights (NEF) returns with its next mixed-martial-arts (MMA) event, “NEF 46: Decade of Dominance,” on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at Aura in Portland, Maine. The event will commemorate NEF’s ten-year anniversary. The leading regional promotion launched on February 11, 2012. Earlier today, NEF announced the addition of a professional featherweight bout to the fight card. Carl Langston (0-6) will take on Zac “Rocky” Richard (1-0) at a fight weight of 145 pounds.

Langston stepped in on short notice to replace Richard’s previous opponent Urias Osorio (0-0) who pulled out of the fight earlier in the week.  Likewise, Langston was recently left without an opponent on the “NEF 46” card when his originally-scheduled opponent Shaun Ray (2-1) revealed to promoters that he could no longer pass medicals to obtain a fight license.

The bout will now be a rematch of the first meeting between Langston and Richard that took place last November at “NEF45.”  That fight, which was Richard’s professional debut, saw Richard defeat Langston by technical knockout in the first round.  Langston says the outcome will be different this Saturday.

“When I got asked to take this rematch on short notice it was a no brainer for me,” said Langston.  “Thank you to NEF for the opportunity and Zac’s team. This fight is going to have a very different outcome.”

“I’m very disappointed in the original fight being dropped,” noted Richard. “However, I worked too hard to sit on the sidelines and watch. I’m thankful to still have the opportunity to fight.”

“NEF 46: Decade of Dominance” takes place this Saturday, February 12, 2022, at Aura in Portland, Maine.  The event will commemorate NEF’s ten-year anniversary. Doors open at 6 pm with first fight at 7 pm.  Tickets are on sale now at www.Ticketmaster.com.  The event will also stream live in its entirety at www.CombatSportsNow.com at a price of $29.99.

🚨BREAKING--🚨 NEF ANNOUNCES CARL LANGSTON AGAINST SHAUN RAY

[NEF PRESS RELEASE]

Portland, Maine (January 11, 2022) – New England Fights (NEF) returns with its next mixed-martial-arts (MMA) event, “NEF 46: Decade of Dominance,” on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at Aura in Portland, Maine. The event will commemorate NEF’s ten-year anniversary. The leading regional promotion launched on February 11, 2012. Earlier today, NEF announced the addition of a professional lightweight bout to the fight card. Carl Langston (0-6) is scheduled to take on Shaun Ray (2-1) at a fight weight of 155 pounds.

Carl Langston will look for the first win of his professional career – a career stretching back to 2018.  Prior to that time, Langston won seven fights as an amateur. He is a lifelong martial artist, having practiced taekwondo since the age of six and medaling in the sport at the Junior Olympic level.  Langston is currently competing as an independent fighter.

“This fight is make it or break it for me,” noted Langston.  “I have every tool to best Shaun and any of my last opponents, I just have to show up mentally. I have had some major positive life changes with the start of this New Year with more to come, and I feel that’s going to help play a major role in this fight. I’m ready to bite down on my mouthpiece and get this finish. I don’t feel like Ray is a true 55er—he’s very small for the weight class—so the jump up to 55 to fight him is a testament to my skill set. I’m going to be the breakthrough fighter of 2022.”

Shaun Ray made his NEF debut last summer at “NEF 44” in Milford, New Hampshire in a losing effort to Caleb Hall (4-0).  Ray is a graduate of Easton High School in Easton, Maryland.  He is currently a resident of Waterville, Maine.  Like Langston, Ray is also an independent fighter.

“I am thankful for the opportunity to test my skill against a very well-seasoned striker,” said Ray.  “I have known Carl and followed his fight career for seven years. I have a lot of respect for him as a fighter. As for myself, I am just doing what I love to do. I feel this is an excellent match up.”

“NEF 46: Decade of Dominance” takes place on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at Aura in Portland, Maine.  The event will commemorate NEF’s ten-year anniversary. Doors open at 6 pm with first fight at 7 pm.  Tickets are on sale now at www.Ticketmaster.com.

FEATHERWEIGHT BOUT ADDED TO NEF 43 CARD IN ORONO, MAINE

Aaron Hughes
[NEF PRESS RELEASE]

Orono, Maine (March 10, 2020) – New England Fights (NEF) will present its next mixed-martial-arts (MMA) event at the Collins Center for the Arts on the University of Maine’s flagship Orono campus.  The event, titled “NEF 43: Rampage,” will take place on Saturday, April 18, 2020, with a bell-time of 7 pm EDT.  Earlier today, the fight promotion announced the addition of a professional featherweight bout to the card.  Carl Langston (0-5) is scheduled to meet Aaron “Short Fuse” Hughes (0-0) at a fight weight of 145 pounds.

Carl Langston comes into the fight looking for the first win that has eluded him thus far in his professional career.  Last month, Langston took on Jacob Deppmeyer (1-0) in Portland, Maine at “NEF 42,” losing via first-round technical knockout.  It was his first fight back with the promotion since losing his pro debut in April 2018.  Langston, a lifelong practitioner of Taekwondo, currently represents Young’s MMA based in nearby Bangor, Maine.
