📰 NEWS--📰 HYLTON AND LIGHTFOOT SET FOR HEAVYWEIGHT COLLISION AT NEF 48

[NEF PRESS RELEASE]

Portland, Maine (May 16, 2022) – New England Fights (NEF) returns with its next mixed-martial-arts (MMA) event “NEF 48: Heatwave” on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at the Rink at Thompson’s Point in Portland, Maine.  The event will be NEF’s first outdoor event since “NEF 8” in 2013.  Earlier today, the fight promotion announced the addition of a professional heavyweight bout to the card.  “The Jamaican Shamrock” Ras “Rasquatch” Hylton (7-6) is scheduled to face Cody Lightfoot (6-5).

6’6” Ras Hylton last competed for the promotion at “NEF 42” in February 2020, with a second-round technical knockout of Brad Lee (0-1).  Hylton has established himself as a local favorite on Maine cards with his unique style and his background as a second-degree black belt in Shotokan karate.  He has competed at the global level in the Bellator MMA cage on two separate occasions.  Most recently, Hylton was victorious via second-round technical knockout on a card in Utah last month.  He currently represents First Class MMA based in Brunswick, Maine and Dragon Fire Martial Arts in Portland.

“It’s been over two years since I have had the opportunity to fight in Maine,” noted Hylton. “I’ve done a lot of traveling to some great places with a lot of great people, but there is nothing as exhilarating as throwing down in your own backyard. It’s good to be home, and I can’t wait to see all of you.”

It has been more than nine years since the last time Cody Lightfoot stepped foot in an MMA cage to compete.  His career in the sport dates back to 2008.  Lightfoot last fought in Maine at “NEF 4” in September 2012, when he unsuccessfully challenged the late Jesse Peterson (7-5) for the professional middleweight strap.  He won a state championship wrestling for Marshwood High School in South Berwick, Maine in 2002 at 189 pounds.  Lightfoot went on to compete for Norwich University in Vermont where he was a Division III All-New England selection in 2007.  He currently represents Nostos MMA in Somersworth, New Hampshire under head coach, and UFC and NEF veteran, Devin Powell (10-5).  Lightfoot vows that the bout with Hylton will be the last of his career.

“After a nine-year ‘rest,’ I'm looking forward to reliving some of my glory days on July 30th at Thompson's Point in Portland, Maine,” said Lightfoot.  “This will mark my final fight as I face off against Ras Hylton. Thank you to NEF for giving me one more opportunity to step into the cage!”

“NEF 48: Heatwave” takes place on July 30, 2022, at the Rink at Thompson’s Point in Portland, Maine.  Tickets for the event are on sale now at www.NewEnglandFights.com/Tickets/.  The event will be the promotion’s first in the outdoors since 2013.
