Portland, Maine (June 24, 2022) – New England Fights (NEF) returns with its next mixed-martial-arts (MMA) event “NEF 48: Heatwave” on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at the Rink at Thompson’s Point in Portland, Maine. The event will be NEF’s first outdoor event since “NEF 8” in 2013. Earlier today, the fight promotion announced the addition of an amateur featherweight bout to the card. Will Smith (0-1) will take on Evrit Roy (0-0) at a weight of 145 pounds.
Will Smith made his MMA debut at “NEF 46” last February in a losing effort to Mike Jolicoeur (1-1). Smith is a decorated wrestler. He won a New Hampshire state championship in 2010.
“I’m going to march forward with a violent mentality,” stated Smith. “Simple as that. Living by the motto ‘Sine Metu’ (without fear).”
Evrit “Kilroy” Roy will make his amateur debut at “NEF 48” after a successful career on the wrestling mats for Mountain Valley High School in Rumford, Maine. Roy won more than 150 matches and was a state finalist in 2019 and 2020, respectively. He is also a former recipient of the NEF scholarship to the Brawlin’ Lobstah wrestling camp at the University of Southern Maine. Roy represents First Class MMA based in Brunswick, Maine.
“I’m very excited to finally be stepping into the cage,” said Roy. “It has been something I’ve wanted to do for a couple years now. My opponent is a wrestler as well which makes this matchup super interesting. This fight is going to the ground it’s just who’s taking down who at this point. Once we’re on the ground though it’ll be just a matter of time until he succumbs to my intensity that I’ll be bringing into the cage.”
“NEF 48: Heatwave” takes place on July 30, 2022, at the Rink at Thompson’s Point in Portland, Maine. Tickets for the event are on sale now at www.NewEnglandFights.com/Tickets/. The event will be the promotion’s first in the outdoors since 2013.
