Western Mass's Kym Sturdivant Is Set To Take On Champ

AFO has just announced that Kym Sturdivant and Randy Smith, the current heavyweight professional champ has agreed to terms.  Read more about Kym in our last month's Featured Fighter.  Kym was set to fight at the Premier FC in last weeks show but his opponent dropped out last minute due to lack of medicals so he is fight ready.  Randy Smith also has been having bad luck finding an opponent.  He was set to fight Lee Beane a few shows back but Lee unfortunately got hurt so Randy defeated Marcello Rocha-Pereirra last October.  Randy was then recently set to fight in Bellator last month but the fight did not happen unfortunately.  Fortunately for us we get to see Randy fight right here in MA at the next AFO!

AFO stated that...

"The amount of HW's out there are kinda slim, we've reached out to all that we could find to step up and face our HW Champ Randy Smith. Some said no thanks and others just to shy to say anything.... Except this one! Kym Sturdivant Answered the Challenge with a "Hell Ya, I want it" - So for the HW Championship The Wolf will face Sturdivant on Jan 13th 2012"

I was able to catch up with Kym and asked him how he felt about his matchup and he told me this..

"I think it's a great fight for me. I've fought against guys taller than him and without giving away my game plan it's going to be a great fight for "true" MMA fans with the contrast in our styles where the "average" fan may not appreciate watching the two different styles in the early rounds. I have much respect for Randy and his camp and we're working on this end."

Kym's last fight was in dominating fashion over Mark Hoxie with a ref stoppage early in Rd 1 back in April.  Sorry Hoxie!!  He comes into this fight with a 4-7 Pro record. Randy Smith who just recently lost his good friend and training partner Jared Palmer and is dedicating this fight to him!!  I can't wait to see this fight and neither should you all so mark your calendars for January 13th for AFO's Redemption.  Also on this card is another title fight where newly turned pro Kody Nordby takes on Theo Desjardin for the 125lb Pro Belt!!
