AFO Night of Champions April 13th 2012 Teaser III

We are back with another installment of AFO NOC teaser part 3.  We are getting closer to the next AFO event, in fact a little over 3 weeks.  Tickets are still on sale at www.afomma.com so make sure you get them.  This teaser is featuring four of the amateur title fights.  The event is set to take place on April 13th, 2012 at the Holiday Inn in Mansfield MA.  Let us begin...

The 135 ammy title fight is between Billy Giovanella and Devin Pilkington. Billy trains with Connors MMA and has a record of 4-2. He has two submission wins and two decision wins in his career so far. Billy has fought for AFO 3 out of his 6 fights. Devin trains out of Rukus and comes into this fight with a record of 3-2. He has two first round stoppages, one ref stoppage to punches against Graeme Prue and guillotine win over Fred Mandracchia. Their records are very similar and I expect this to be a ground battle.

Next fight is the 145lb ammy title featuring Cory Pickering and John Cumper. Cory is quickly making a name for himself with a 4-0 record and trains out of SSSF. He always takes tough fights and has been showing it and hence why is NortheastMMA's #2 ranked 145lber. He has wins over Eddie Lee, Matt Doherty and Shaun Shugert. All of three of these fights were stopped in the first round and he has one submission win via armbar! He is a very fast striker and packs a mean punch for a 145lber. He was supposed to fight Amryan Aliyev but he dropped out of this show and for CFX's show. Not sure what happened there. Who will step up to face him?? Thankfully, John "Luda" Cumper is here to the rescue. He trains out of Sityodtong and is a coach there as well. He has a record of 3-1 that I have seen online and has had 5 or so muay thai matches. He has a first round stoppage and his one loss came to Sam Nadeau at a Premier FC who is ranked #3 on the 145lber rankings. He had a fight set for CFX but had to pull out due to an injury and lucky for us fans he is cleared to fight and ready to battle for us on April 13th! I expect this fight to be a fast paced bout and might not make it out of the first round!

Next fight is 155 ammy title between Jeremiah Diruzzo vs Jarrid Heon. Jeremiah trains out of Redline Fight Sports and has a record of 4-1. All four of his wins have come via submission in the first round. Jeremiah is currently ranked #2 on the 170lb rankings and is making his move to 155 and ready to show what he is made of. Jeremiah's only loss comes to Dicky White who is also fighting on this card. His opponent, Jarrid comes into this fight with a 2-2 record and fights out of Team Link. He has beaten Ryan Daniels in the first round at a previous AFO and one of his losses came to none other than Dicky White, so they have a common opponent. I expect this one to be a display of jiu jitsu fight. Jeremiah will use his strength and try for another submission victory. Jarrid defends very well on the ground so this should make for an awesome fight.

Last fight is between Tim Leary and Jay Balinowski. This fight is for the 170lb ammy title. Tim fights out of Redline Sports and has a record of 2-0. He won his last fight at the last AFO via a huge KO punch in rd 2. His first win was a submission win against Mike Justice back in February 2010. He has the knockout power and can submit! His opponent Jay Balinowski is from Wai Kru and comes into this fight with a record of 3-1. I wasn't able to find any information on his but with being from Wai Kru and a record of 3-1 I am sure he is coming to ready to fight! This one has potential to be fight of the night!

I hope you all enjoyed this teaser.  I know I say this alot but I apologize to any fighters for any information I have is wrong.  I use Sherdog/AFO/MixedMartialArts websites for the records and try to use the most accurate one.  Just let me know and I will gladly fix it!  We will have one more teaser for this upcoming AFO and stay tuned for more teasers.  We hope to see you all there!  Til next time keep training!
