PROFESSIONAL CATCHWEIGHT FIGHT ADDED TO NEF XIV

[NEF Press Release]

Lewiston, Maine (May 21, 2014) – New England Fights Mixed Martial Arts (NEF MMA), the Northeast’s premier mixed martial arts promotion, today announced the addition of a professional catchweight bout to the company's "NEF XIV" event.  "NEF XIV" is scheduled to take place at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston on Saturday, September 6, 2014.  The bout will feature "The Junkyard Dog" Ryan Cowette (2-2) taking on John "Little" Healey (0-1) at a weight of 165-pounds.

Cowette is the owner and head coach of MMA Athletix in Bath, Maine.  At one time one of the highest-ranked amateur fighters in New England, Cowette stumbled out of the starting gate at the outset of his professional career, losing his first two fights.  Since that time, however, he has rebounded, winning his last two in a row.  Cowette scored an impressive win over lightweight title contender Jesse "The Viking" Erickson (3-2) at "NEF XI."  He followed it up with an equally-impressive stoppage of Dave Claroni (1-1) earlier this year at "NEF XII."  At "NEF XIII" on September 6, Cowette will look to make it three in a row when he meets John Healey in Lewiston.

“I’m looking forward to getting back into the cage in September,” stated Cowette when reached for comment. “It was nice to focus on my team at the last NEF MMA event. That being said, I’m training hard and you will see the best Junkyard Dog yet come September.”

Healey, who recently signed a long-term multi-fight promotional contract with NEF MMA, is no stranger to the NEF MMA cage, having competed for the fight promotion three times as an amateur.  He has found success in that cage, going undefeated over the course of those three bouts.  While he has yet to compete for NEF MMA in the professional ranks, Healey hopes that his success with the promotion will continue and will earn him his first taste of victory as a professional. Healey currently trains out of the Iron Jaw Gym/Seacoast Boxing in Rochester, New Hampshire.

“Signing with NEF MMA is an amazing opportunity,” stated Healey when reached for comment. “NEF MMA has taken care of me in every fight I have ever done with them and has always shown me gratitude and respect in and out of the cage. I look forward to fighting for NEF MMA on September 6th and many more times in the future. Ryan Cowette, I know, is a tough opponent, but I am ready—I am always ready to step into the cage and put on a show. I'm ready to fight and ready to go.”

NEF MMA's next event, “NEF XIV,” is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston, Maine with a bell time of 7:00 pm.  In the main event of the evening, Tim "The Maine-iac" Sylvia (31-9) returns to Maine to face fellow UFC veteran Christian Morecraft (8-3) for the Super-Heavyweight Title.  Featherweight Champion Ray "All Business" Wood (4-0) returns from injury after a year of recovery.  Plus, Bruce "Pretty Boy" Boyington (6-7) and Jesse "The Viking" Erickson (3-2) will meet for the Lightweight Title.  Tickets for "NEF XIV" start at just $25 and are on sale now at www.TheColisee.com or by calling The Colisee box office at 207.783.2009 x 525.  For more information on the event and fight card updates, please visit the promotion’s website at www.NewEnglandFights.com.
