CAGE TITANS 23 4/18/2015 TEASER

This Saturday April 18th Cage Titans storms back for another night of hard hitting mma fights.  Cage Titans has put together a 20 fight card in which 4 of them are pro, and 4 title fights.  The card features fighters from all over New England looking to bring home the W this Saturday.  Tickets are still available and will be available at the door as well.  The Plymouth Memorial is such a great venue to see fights as it provides stadium seating, decent priced foor/beer and the cheers in there are incredible.  It is no surprise why fighters love to return and keep fighting for Cage Titans and company.  The Artist and I will be making the trip east to check out the awesome fights.  Still not excited yet??  Well let me break down the card for you and keep in mind some last minute changes may be made and this might not be the correct fight order.

125 AM Nick Amendola (0-0, Speed School MMA) vs Nirav Modi (0-0, MassBJJ)

In the first match up of the night Nick Amendola takes on Nirav Modi in the 125lb division.  Amendola will be making his amateur debut and trains out of Speed School MMA.  His opponent is Nirav Modi and will also be making his amateur debut.  Modi trains out of Mass BJJ and they always get their fighters ready for battle. As you can see both of these fighters are stepping into the cage for the first time so we do not know what to expect so we will have to wait and see.

155 AM Jim McSweeny (1-1, Team Link) vs Chris Mehu (1-1, Gate City MMA)

Next up is Jim McSweeny taking on Chris Mehu at 155 lbs amateur.  Jim trains out of Team Link and comes into this fight with a 1-1 record.  He lost his first fight by submission and then bounced back with a win by ko/tko to strikes.  His opponent is Chris Mehu and he trains with Gate City MMA.  He also comes into this fight with a 1-1 record with 1 win by decision and one loss by submission.  Here is another close fight that could go either way and is just another solid match up for Cage Titans.

125 AM Jessie Pires (1-6, Team BKJA) vs Miguel Trinadad (0-0, TriForce)

In another 125lb fight Jessie Pires returns to the Cage Titans cage against Miguel Trinadad.  Pires trains out of BKJA and comes into this fight with a 1-6 record.  He won his sole win against Brendan Stephenson by submission.  For his losses, he lost 4 by ko/tko, 1 by sub and 1 by decision.  In this battle Pires brings the cage experience so he has the edge in that aspect.  His opponent is Miguel Trinadad and he comes out of Triforce MMA.  Trinadad will be making his amateur debut so we don't know what to expect but from TriForce I know he will have some great stand up.  I see this fight being a fast paced stand up battle and I don't see it going the distance.

180 AM Steve Young (0-0, FightZone) vs Myles Reid (1-5, Indy)

At a catch weight of 180lbs Steve Young takes on Myles Reid.  Young trains out of FightZone and comes into this fight with an 0-0 record.  His opponent is Myles Reid and he comes into this fight with a 1-5 record.  Reid is an independent fighter and won his sole win by guilliotine.  He lost the majority of his match ups by submission or ko/tko to strikes.  We will have to see if his fight experience will be a factor in this fight but I think it will be a close match up.

HVY AM Gravin Guillen (2-1, Indy) vs Jeff Soivilien (1-2, Boston Muay Thai)

In a heavy weight showdown Gravin Guillen is squaring off against Jeff Voivilien in an amateur bout.  Guillen is a 2-1 independent fighter.  He has fought up in Maine in all 3 of his fights so far but is looking to expand and fight anybody.  He has 2 wins over Mladen Holman with 1 by ko/tko to strikes and one decision.  His only loss came against Bill Leahy in which he lost by a submission in Rd 1.  He is pumped and ready to display his skills to fans at Cage Titans.  His opponent is Jeff Soivilien who trains out of Boston Muay Thai. Jeff comes into this fight with a 1-2 record with 1 win by ko/tko to strikes.  For his losses he has lost 1 by submission and 1 by decision.  I know I sound like a broken record here but this is another close match up and the fans are going to be in for a treat as these two behemoths go head to head.

145 AM Timothy Cenabre (0-0 Speed School MMA) vs John Douma (0-0, TriForce)

At 145lbs Timothy Cenabre challenges John Douma in the Cage Titans cage this Saturday.  Cenabre trains out of Speed School MMA and will be making his amateur debut.  His opponent is John Douma and he trains with TriForce mma and will also be making his amateur debut.  Two raw fresh amateur fighters looking to make a name for themselves this Saturday!

160 AM Derek Peterson (0-3, Gillett’s MMA) vs Rob Moser (0-2, Redline)

Derek Peterson faces off against Rob Moser at a catch weight of 160 lbs.  Peterson comes out of Gilette's MMA and has an 0-3 record.  For his fights so far he lost 1 by ko/tko, 1 by submission and 1 by decision.  He is still hungry for his first taste of mma victory.  His opponent comes out of team Redline by the name of Rob Moser.  He comes into this fight with an 0-2 record with 1 loss by decision and 1 loss by submission.  He is also looking to get his first W in mma.  Again, another real close match up and to make it even more exciting, one of them will be getting the first W of their careers.

170 AM Angelo Richardson (2-1, Speed School MMA) vs Peter Luciani (1-1, SBG East)

At 170lbs Angelo Richardson is set to take on Peter Luciani.  Angelo trains with Speed School MMA and comes into this fight with a 2-1 record.  He has two wins by submission and lost one by decision.  I have seen his last two fights and he made quick work of both of his opponents.  His opponent is Peter Luciani and he trains out of SBG East.  He comes into this fight with a 1-1 card with 1 win by submission and his loss by submission.  Luciani hasn't fought since 2013 and is anxious to make his return.  Here is another solid match up and I think this one is going to be a ground battle.

155 AM Jimmy MacDonald (1-1, FightZone) vs Jimmy Bruce (1-1, Upstate BJJ)

Jimmy MacDonald takes on Jimmy Bruce at 155lbs.  Jimmy MacDonald (no relation to Kevin the Ref) trains with Team FightZone and has a 1-1 record.  He has one win by ko/tko over Scott Decristoforo and for his loss he lost by decision.  His opponent is Jimmy Bruce and he trains out of Upstate BJJ and also comes into this fight with a 1-1 record.  I was only able to find one of his fights online and he lost by submission in Rd 1. The battle of the Jimmys will take place this Saturday and one of them will move to 2-1.

120 AM – Randi Beth Knowles (1-0, Youngs) vs Danielle Hindley (0-0, SSSF)

At 120 lbs Randi Beth Knowles takes on Danielle Hindley.  This fight was just added a few days ago and Knowles just fought last Saturday for NEF in which she won the decision against Alex Walker.
Knowles trains with Youngs MMA and comes into this fight with a 1-0 record.  Randi showed good control and was able to work her takedowns and win the rounds.  I am sure she will be looking to do some more of that in this fight.  Her opponent is Danielle Hindley and she will be making her amateur debut.  Being from SSSF I know she will be ready for a battle.  I highly expect this fight will be an intense one and the crowd will be going nuts.  Fight of the night potential right here.

205 AM Yorgan De Castro (2-1, Lauzon MMA) vs Sean Evans (2-0, Simmler BJJ)

Next battle for Cage Titans is at 205 lbs between Yorgan De Castro and Sean Evans.  Yorgan trains out of Lauzon MMA and has a 2-1 record.  He has one win by ko/tko to strikes and one by decision.  For his losses he lost 1 by decision to Pat McCrohan.  His opponent is Sean Evans and trains with Simmler BJJ.  He comes into this fight with an unblemished record of 2-0 with both of his wins coming by decision.  This fight was supposed to happen at CFX but as we all have heard they had roof issues at the venue and the promotion was cancelled.  Thankfully Cage Titans has picked up the fight so we all can see it happen!

135 AM Arslan Otciev (2-1, K Dojo) vs Max Barrett (4-4, GFMMA)

Arslan Otciev will be taking on Mad Max Barrett at 135 amateur showdown.  Arslan comes into this fight with a 2-1 record and trains with K Dojo.  He has 2 wins by submission and one loss by decision to Matt Tullos.  His opponent is Max Barrett and he trains out of GFMMA and comes into this fight with a 4-4 record.  Max has 3 wins by ko/tko and 1 win by decision.  For his losses he lost 3 by submission and 1 by ko/tko.  Arslan is very slick on the ground and will be looking to get this fight on the ground and get the sub.  For Max to win he will need to keep this fight standing and work his striking to wear down Arslan.

155 AM Devin Carrier (2-1, Lauzon MMA) vs Jacob Weeks (2-1, SBG East)

Devin Carrier will be facing off against Jacob Weeks at 155lbs.  Devin trains out of Lauzon MMA and comes into this fight with a 2-1 record.  Devin is a 2 fight win streak with one win by ko/tko and one by decision.  He lost his first fight to Stephanos Kampouris by decision.  His opponent is Jacob Weeks and he comes into this fight with a 2-1 record.  Weeks has a 2-1 record with 2 wins by submission and one loss by decision.  Carrier will want to use his reach and work his strikes as Weeks will want to stay in close and grind it out and work his takedowns.

155 AM TITLE Alex Ortiz (2-0 Renzo Gracie CT) vs. Don Shainis (3-0 Victory)

For the 155lb amateur title Alex Ortiz takes on Don Shainis.  Ortiz has a 2-0 record with 1 win by submission and 1 win by decision.  He trains with Renzo Gracie CT and from what I have seen has a great ground game.  His opponent is Don Shainis and he trains out of Victory MMA.  He comes into this fight with a 3-0 record with 1 by ko/tko and 1 win by submission.  Real close records and they both are undefeated and they are going head to head for the Cage Titans title.  Both of them are going to give it their all to take home the strap and I see this fight being a ground battle.

145 AM TITLE Jeff Perez (5-2 SBG East) vs. Mark Cardarelli (3-1 Rivera Athletics)

At 145lbs for the title Jeff Perez defends his title against Mark Cardarelli.  Both of these guys have fought for Cage Titans several times between them so they are no stranger to the CT fans.  Perez comes into this fight with a 5-2 record and trains out of SBG East.  He has 3 wins by ko/tko, 1 sub and 1 decision win.  His two losses were ones he lost by decision.  Perez has killer hands that can hit at anytime and also a killer beard to boot.  His opponent is Mark Cardarelli who trains out of Rivera Athletics and comes into this fight with a 3-1 record.  He has 2 wins by submission and 1 win by decision so far in his amateur career.  He has one loss in which he lost by a decision.  Both fighters have proven they have the cardio to go the distance if needed but remember this is a 5 round fight.  Perez will have the edge on his feet and will look to wait for the right moment to get the ko or knockdown to win the fight.  Mark will be looking to get this fight to the ground if he sees his opening and work his submissions.

185 AM TITLE Shane Mulligan (CCFA/GFMMA 2-0) vs. Pat McCrohan (3-0 Gillett's MMA)

In the 3rd title fight of the night Shane Mulligan will square off against Pat McCrohan for the 185 lb strap.  Mulligan trains with CCFA/GFMMA and comes into this fight with a 2-0 record.  He has two wins by ko/tko to strikes so he is very deadly with the striking.  His opponent is Pat McCrohan and he trains with Gillett's MMA.  He comes into this fight with a 3-0 record with 2 wins by ko/tko and 1 win by decision so far in his amateur career.  A lot is at stake in this fight, their unblemished records and the title so no doubt both of these fighters are going to push their mma game to the next level on this fight.  I don't see this one going to the distance and I think it will be a clinch and grind-em out type of fight.

145 PRO Manny Torres (2-3 Kipp's Basement) vs. Scott Gorgone (1-0 Mass BJJ)

At 145lbs Manny Torres takes on Scott Gorgone for the first professional fight of the evening.  Torres comes into this fight with a 2-3 record and trains out of Kipp's Basement.  He has 1 win by decision and 1 win by submission.  For his losses he lost 3 straight fights by ko/tko to strikes.  All of his fights before this were for Reality Fighting and now he is branching out to other promotions.  His opponent is Scott Gorgone from Mass BJJ.  He comes into this fight with a 1-0 record with 1 win by submission against Anthony Carmenatty.  He has been very dominant fighter so far in his career and is nasty of the ground.  I feel this is a tough fight for Torres and I see this one being a ground battle.  Torres will be looking to use his 5 fight experience to bring home the W.

170 PRO Sean Lally (2-1 GFMMA)  vs. Addison O'Neil (DCNU 1-3)

In the second pro fight of the night Sean Lally challenges Addison O'Neil in the cage at 170 lbs.  Lally trains with GFMMA and comes into this fight with a 2-1 record.  He won his last fight for Cage Titans against Tunde Odumusu by submission late into Rd 1.  He will be looking for his takedowns and to control this battle on the ground and work a submission.  His opponent is Addison O'Neil who comes into this fight with a 1-3 record.  Hailing out of DCNU in Connecticut he has 1 win by submission so far in his pro career.  For his losses he lost 1 by ko/tko, 1 by sub and 1 by decision.  I think this will be a close fight and will be a ground battle.

125 PRO Remo Cardarelli (4-1 Rivera Athletics) vs. Andy Aiello (2-1 Lauzon MMA)

At 125 lbs Remo Cardarelli returns to the Cage Titans cage against Andy Aiello.  Remo trains with Rivera Athletics and comes into this fight with a 4-1 record with all 4 wins by way of submission.  He lost his last fight by ko/tko to strikes against Billy Giovanella and is looking to return to his winning ways.  His opponent is Andy Aiello and he trains out Lauzon MMA.  He comes into this fight with a 2-1 record with 1 win by ko/tko and 1 by decision.  His only loss came against Kody Nordby by submission at a previous AFO show.  This is going to be an awesome battle and I see it being a back and forth ground battle.

145 PRO TITLE Frank Sforza (SSSF 4-0) vs. Taylor Trahan (Team Link 5-2)

In the main event Frank Sforza takes on Taylor Trahan for the professional 145 lb title.  Sforza trains with SSSF and comes into this fight with a 4-0 record.  He has 3 wins by submission and 1 win by decision.  His opponent is Taylor Trahan fighting out of Team Link.  He comes into this fight with a 5-2 record with 2 wins by submission and 3 by decision.  For his losses he lost 1 by ko and 1 by ko/tko.  Both of these guys are comfortable on the ground so I feel this one is going to be going to the ground very quickly.  This fight is totally worth of a title fight and is going to be real fun to watch!

There you have the complete breakdown of the Cage Titans 23 card that takes place at Plymouth Memorial on April 18th, 2015.  I would like to give a shoutout to the Cage Titans crew for always keeping us in the loop on all the mma happenings and also to Miss Brandie Light who does a tremendous job behind the scenes making sure each and every fighter gets their paperwork in so they can fight.  There are so many good fights on this card so really you have no excuse to miss this one!  Hope to see you all there.
