NEF 25 'HEROES AND VILLAINS' 9/10/2016 LIVE REVIEW


Warchild and I made the trip to the Colisee and for once was actually a half hour before the show started.  We quickly found our spots and saw the boxing and the cage all set up and ready to go.  Fight fans are starting to roll in ready for the NEF action.  There is a total of 13 fights with 3 of them being boxing.  Pete Czymbor is the host of the night and the refs are Steve Rita,  and Alan Lau.  Stay tuned as NEF has a huge announcement coming at 8pm tonight.  The Vayo twins sang the national anthem and the fights are about to start.  Follow along as I recap the night.






160 PRO BOXING John Webster (Rumble) vs. Zenon Herrera (Independent)

Webster wins unanimous decision.  At 47 years old he turns 48 tomorrow and hasn't won since 2004.  Congrats John.






175 PRO BOXING Brandon Montella (The Way LLC) vs. Tollison Lewis (CMBJJ)

Brandon wins TKO Rd 2.







160 PRO BOXING Casey Kramlich (Portland Boxing Club) vs. John Ortolani (S. Tampa Jiu Jitsu & MMA)

Kramlich wins tko Rd 4 at 1:21.








135 AM MMA Walt Shea (0-0 First Class)  vs. Joel Downing 'The Slenderman' (0-0 CMBJJ)

Joel connects with a right that knocks Walt down.  He gets in a few more punches and Walt pushes him off.  They are back up slugging rights.  Walt catches a knee and takes Joel down.  He works a triangle and is pushing the head down.  Walt gets out and Joel looks for an armbar.  Walt steps to the side and is out.  Walt is now working the side and gets into half guard.  He is getting in punches to the side and to the head as the round ends.

Downing 10-9

Rd 2:  Walt starts the round off with an inside leg kick.  Walt closes the distance and is looking for the takedown.  He can't get it and Joel gets in a knee to the body.  They circle to the center and both get tied up and fall to the mat.  Walt has the side and is kneeing to the body.

Shea 10-9

Rd 3:  Walt catches the leg and takes him down.  He lets him back up.  Walt eats a punch and presses Joel up against the cage.  Walt scoops him up and puts him to the mat with a takedown.  He kicks the legs a few times then lets him back up.  Walt kicks the leg and Joel goes down again.  He punches the shin guard and lets Joel back up.  First time I have ever seen that LOL.  Walt is pressing Joel up against the cage and gets the takedown as the round ends.

Shea 10-9

Walt Shea defeats Joel Downing via unanimous decision.







135 AM MMA Jessica Borga (2-1 Champions MMA) vs. Rachael Joyce (1-0 Team Irish)

Jessica connects with a leg kick and Rachael pins her up against the cage.  Rachael gets in a few knees to the body.  She goes for a double leg but Jessica defends and she can't get it.  They break and Rachael connects with a right.  Rachael with a combo as the round ends.

Joyce 10-9

Rd 2:  Jessica starts it off with a kick to the body.  Rachael comes forward with a combo. Rachael pushes Jessie all the way to the opposite end of the cage and is looking for the single leg.  She can't get it and they break to the center.  Rachael goes for another single leg and gets it.  Jessie has a guillotine but its not deep and Rachael pulls her head free.  She postures up and gets in a hammerfist as the round ends.

Joyce 10-9

Rd 3:  Both fighters are exchanging kicks.  Rachael presses Jessica up against the cage briefly.  They break and Jessie connects with a jab.  Nice combo from Rachael.  She gets the double leg takedown and is in guard.  She is trying to posture up and get in some gnp as the round ends.

155 AM MMA Caleb Swoveland (1-1 Ruthless MMA and Boxing) vs. Frank Johanson (0-2 CMBJJ)

Caleb catches a kick and takes Frank down.  He is in guard and Frank is looking for the armbar.  He is eating a bunch of punches but sticks with it and gets the tap.

Frank Johanson defeats Caleb Swoveland via tapout to armbar at 58 seconds in Rd 1.







155 AM MMA TITLE: Rafael Velado (3-0 First Class) vs. Jimmy Jackson (3-2 Young's MMA)

Raf with an inside leg kick.  Jimmy with an inside leg kick of his own.  Rafael just checks a high kick just in time.  Raf connects with a superman punch to the shoulder.  They are both swinging and they clinch up.  Rafael works the takedown and is in half guard.  Rafael works a kimura for the tap.

145 AM MMA TITLE: Caleb Hall (7-3 Choi) vs. Johnny Crafts (4-0 CMBJJ)

Caleb gets in 3 inside leg kicks.  They are both exchanging kicks and Crafts gets hit in the cup.  Fight resumes and they are swinging now.  Blood is coming out of near Craft's eye.  Johnny gets the takedown and they are right back up.  Great round.

Hall 10-9

Rd 2:  Hall starts us off with a leg kick.  Crafts with a good kick to the back.  Crafts works a takedown and is in half guard.  They roll and Caleb has his back while Craft is standing.  They are up against the cage and Caleb gets in a combo as he steps back.  Crafts goes for a takedown and gets it and Hall transitions right to the side.  He stands back up and they are in the center as the round ends.

Hall 10-9, could be a close round

Rd 3:  They both exchange punches.  Johnny dives for a takedown and Caleb stuffs it.  Caleb keeps rushing in and working his punches.  Johnny gets the takedown and is standing back up.  Caleb is back up and gets in two leg kicks to the leg of downed Crafts.  Crafts gets up as the round ends.

Hall 10-9

Caleb Hall defeats Johnny Crafts via split decision.  Caleb Hall is still the champ.








135 PRO MMA Elias Leland (2-1 Academy of MMA) vs. Walter Smith Cotito (3-4 Team Link)


Both fighters are exchanging kicks.  Elias works a takedown and is in half guard.  Nice move and Walt is back up.  Nice right from Elias and Walter counters.  Elias looks for the double leg but can't get it.  Walter reverses and they are back into the center.  Elias connects with a kick and works a takedown.  Walter works his way up. Walter with a jumping knee!  Elias is looking for the single leg but can't get it.  Walter with a short jab.  Walter goes high with a head kick and Elias counters with a right.  Elias connects with 2 good rights.  Walter has Elias up against the cage.  They break and swinging away as the round ends!!  What a round.

Leland 10-9

Rd 2:  Right back where we left off.  They are both exchanging leg kicks.  Very even on the exchange.  Elias dives low for a takedown and Walt stuffs it.  Walt with a right.  Another nice combo for Walter.  Elias dives for a takedown and is stuffed.  Walt has his back briefly but Elias circles out and they are back up swinging.  Elias is trying for a takedown but can't get it.  They fall to the mat and Walter works a d'arce for the tap.

Walter Smith Cotito defeats Elias Leland via tapout to d'arce at 4:16 in Rd 2.








145 PRO MMA Cory Trial (0-0 Ruthless MMA) vs. Aaron Lacey (2-0 Young's MMA)

Aaron rushes in and is looking for the takedown.  Cory defends a few attempts but Aaron eventually gets it.  He takes his back as Cory is getting up and has the hooks in.  He is getting in some heavy hands to the head.  He gets the rear naked choke for the tap.

145 PRO MMA Matt Denning (3-3 CMBJJ) vs. Taylor Trahan (5-6 Team Link)

Matt starts us out with a leg kick.  Matt is pressing Taylor up against the cage.  Taylor circles out and works a takedown.  Matt works his way up and jumps for a guillotine.  Taylor eventually gets out and slams him to the mat.  Taylor has the arm and rips it free for the tap.










205 PRO MMA Mike Hansen (4-4 Berserkers MMA) vs. Matt Andrikut (2-0 Kut Combat)

Mike starts us out with two leg kicks.  Matt misses with a wild leg leg and falls to the mat.  Matt gets in close and rips him to the mat.  He has his back and falls off.  Matt is now in guard.  He gets the reverse and is now on top.  His butt is in his face and he works the kimura for the tap.

180 PRO MMA Jesse Erickson (8-5 CMBJJ) vs. Crowsneck Boutin (2-2 Choi's Institute)

Jesse starts it off with a leg kick.  Crow connects and pushes Jesse to the mat.  Crow moves to half then gets to guard.  Crow gets in a hammerfist and is looking for short elbows.  Jesse is looking for the armbar but Crow defends it.  Jesse gets the roll and has his back.  He works the rear naked choke for the tap.  Jesse has a nice hematoma below his eye.

FIGHT OF THE NIGHT:  Caleb Hall vs. Johnny Crafts
KO/TKO OF THE NIGHT: None on the night
SUB OF THE NIGHT:  Cotito d'arce choke
BLUNDER OF THE NIGHT:  Witnessing a photographer try to sit on his foldable chair and completely fall over.

NEF was a solid night of fights and I always leave with a smile on my face.  The fights were very well matched and the ring girls looked great.  NEF announced the next show will be November 4th which is a Friday and it will be a show with CES fighters as well.  It will also be on AXS so fight fans will be able to watch it all over the U.S.  Special thanks to NEF for the hospitality.
