NEF 36 BATTLE FOR GOLD LIVE REVIEW 11/17/2018

Portland Maine streets are packed and lively tonight with the remnants of snow.  Warchild and I maneuvered and found the parking garage and walked over to Club Aura for what should be another solid night of fights.  NEF 36 will be taking place tonight with a total of 14 fights.  The voice Pete Czymbor will be the host for the night.  The NEF ring girls are looking good tonight.  The refs are Steve Rita and Kevin MacDonald.  The national anthem has been sung and the fights are about to begin.  Please follow along as I recap the night.


135 AM Taylor Thompson 2-0 (BST) vs Catie Denning 1-0 (Young’s MMA)

Both ladies come out swinging.  Catie pushes Taylor up against the cage and gets in a good punch as they break.  Taylor is now pressing Catie up against the cage and works a couple of knees to the body.  They break and are now swinging away.  Taylor is pressing Catie up against the cage and they are both exchanging knees to the body.  They break and Catie gets in a good combo before the round ends.

Denning 10-9

Rd 2:  Catie comes out swinging and Taylor gets in an inside leg kick.  Taylor is clinching up and gets in a knee to the body.  They break and Taylor clinches again and gets in some more knees.  Taylor gets in some more knees.  As the 10 second timer goes off Catie breaks and gets in an uppercut before the round ends.

Thompson 10-9

Rd 3:  Taylor is working her kicks.  Catie gets in a good combo.  Taylor goes high with a kick.  Catie gets in an uppercut.  Taylor gets in 3 kicks and Catie catches Taylor with a punch and she stumbles for a second.  Taylor with an overhand right that connects.  Catie is showing fatigue but still throws a snapping leg kick that connects.  Catie gets in combo that draws some blood near Taylor's nose.

Thompson 10-9

Taylor Thompson defeats Catie Denning via unanimous decision.

175 AM Jon Assam 0-0 (CMBJJ) vs Jordan Norman 0-1 (Bad Little Falls Dojo)

Jordan comes forward with two punches.  Jordan is connecting with some big punches.  These guys are going at and we have a fight going on now!  Jon is starting to find his rhythm and working the jab.  Jordan tries for a takedown but can't finish it.  Jordan gets in a few more solid shots before the round ends.

Norman 10-9

Rd 2:  Right back where we left off and these guys are swinging.  Jordan is getting the better of the exchanges.  Jon with a combo.  Both fighters are starting to show fatigue.  Jon with a nice superman punch.  The rest of the round is once again all stand up.

Norman 10-9

Rd 3:  They are standing in the center and banging!  Jon is getting the better of the exchange.  Jon is continuing getting the better of the exchanges.  Jordan gets in a counter punch.

Assam 10-9

Jordan Norman defeats Jon Assam via split decision.

155 AM Mohammad Al Kinani 4-1 (Evolution Athletix) vs Clifford Redman 0-6 (Independent)

Mohammad connects with a right and Clifford goes for a takedown.  Mohammad stuffs it and tosses him to the mat.  He gets in a bunch of hammerfists and lets him.  Mohammad connects again and drops Clifford and finishes him off with some hammerfists for the stoppage.

Mohammad Al Kinani defeats Clifford Redman via tko stoppage to strikes at 1:18 in Rd 1.

135 AM Schuyler Vaillancourt 0-0 (Nostos) vs Felipe Gunther 0-0 (First Class MMA)

Both fighters are working on their kicks so far.  Felipe gets in two kicks to the body.  Schuyler gets in a kick of his own that sends Felipe to the mat.  Felipe gets the takedown and he gets bucked off and they are back up.  Felipe closes the gap and gets in a combo.  He takes down Schuyler and and he gets right back up to their feet.

Gunther 10-9

Rd 2:  They are both kicking.  Felipe connects with a right.  Felipe drops him and takes the back and sinks in the rear naked choke for the tap.

155 AM Brandon Mailet-Fevens 0-0 (CMBJJ) vs Ben Peters 0-0 (Titan Athletics)

They clinch and Ben is trying for a guillotine.  Brandon defends and gets him to the mat.  Ben gets back to his feet and gets a takedown of his own.  He has the side and works a kimura for the tap.

Ben Peters defeats Brandon Mailet-Fevens via tapout(verbal submission) to kimura at 1:47 in Rd 1.

140 AM Megan Rosado 0-0 (Evolution Athletix) vs Glory Watson 1-0 (Young’s MMA)

Glory with a combo.  She goes high with a kick that connects clean.  She gets Megan to the mat and is in half guard.  Megan pushes her off and they are back standing.  Megan gets in a combo and Glory is looking for the takedown.  She gets her down to the mat but Megan bounces right back up.  Megan is tired and Glory gets in another combo.  Both ladies are swinging as the round ends.

Watson 10-9

Rd 2:  Megan gets in an outside kick.  They clinch briefly and are now back in the center.  They clinch again and Glory punches her way out.  Megan with a high kick.  Megan gets Glory to the mat.  She has the back briefly but falls off.  They are both swinging away as the round ends.

Rosado 10-9

Rd 3:  They are both swinging away and Megan gets in another high kick.  They clinch and then break.  Megan with an inside kick and Glory presses Megan up against the cage.  Megan tries for a guillotine but can't get it.  They fall to the mat and Megan gets the back in the scramble.  She is trying for the finish but runs out of time.

Rosado 10-9

Glory Watson defeats Megan Rosado via split decision.

155 AM Zac Richard 2-0 (Nostos) vs Chris Lachcik 0-1 (Independent)

I have never seen glitter on fight shorts before but now I have thanks to Zac Richard.  Zac goes for the takedown and gets with a slam.  He has the side and passes to full mount.  He takes the back and works the rear naked choke for the win.

135 AM Nate Boucher 2-3 (CMBJJ) vs Jordan Young 1-1 (Independent)

They are both swinging.  Nate eats a kick to the body and Nate gets the takedown.  They are back to their feet and Nate gets another takedown.  He moves to full mount and is trying for the rear naked choke.  Jordan is fighting it and defends it for a minute.  Nate sinks the arm under deeper and gets the tap.

140 AM Henry Clark 4-4 (Choi Institute) vs Killian Murphy 1-1 (Nostos)

Killian with a crisp leg kick drops Clark.  Clark grabs the leg and is trying to get Killian to the mat.  He postures up and is dropping bombs.  Clark has the leg for a bit and Killian gets it free.  Clark stands up and Killian rips him down to the mat.  Clark has a triangle and reverses it.  He tries for an arm bar at the end but runs of time.

Murphy 10-9

Rd 2:  Both fighters are exchanging leg kicks.  They are exchanging knees from the clinch.  Killian grabs the leg and tries for a takedown but can't get it.  Killian is getting the better of the striking now.  Clark eats a few shots and clinches with a knee to the body as the round ends.

Murphy 10-9

Rd 3:  They are both exchanging leg kicks.  Clark gets in a kick and Killian slips.  Clark takes his back.  He is trying for the finish but Killian is defending.  Killian is firing shots from the top behind his back.

Henry Clark defeats Killian Murphy via unanimous decision.

125 AM Chelsea Tucker 0-2 (First Class MMA) vs BJ Garceau 1-0 (Young’s MMA)

Chelsea gets in a kick.  BJ is pressing Chelsea up against the cage and they break after a minute.  Chelsea gets in some punches and they clinch again.  BJ is pressing Chelsea up against the cage as the round ends.

Tucker 10-9

Rd 2:  Chelsea comes out swinging.  BJ closes the gap and is pressing Chelsea up against the cage.  BJ with a leg kick.  Chelsea with a combo and followed up by a knee to the body.  Chelsea lets out a barrage of punches and BJ goes down to one knee.  BJ stands back up before the round ends.

Tucker 10-9

Rd 3:  Chelsea is getting in her strikes and BJ is now pressing her up against the cage.  Chelsea reverses and breaks.  She is working her striking once again.  BJ with a snapping kick.  Chelsea gets in a knee to the body that drops BJ and she gets the stoppage.

145 PRO Matt Probin 2-0 (Recon) vs Lionel Young 7-15 (Citadel Martial Arts)

Matt gets in a kick to the body.  He tries for a takedown and Lionel grabs the head.  Matt gets free and is pressing Lionel up against the cage.  Matt gets the takedown and is in guard.  Lionel gets some space and they are back to their feet.  Lionel gets the takedown and is working the side.  He gets pushed back to guard.  Matt is getting in punches from the bottom.  Matt tries for a triangle and is trying for the finish but can't get it.

Probin 10-9

Rd 2:  Lionel gets in a pair of leg kicks.  Matt gets in a leg kick and a knee to the body that drops Lionel.  He gets in some more punches

125 PRO Ernesto Ornelas 4-7 (Choi Institute) vs Jose Lugo 3-0 (BST MMA & Fitness)

They clinch and Ernie has the outside.  Lugo reverses and gets the takedown.  Ernie is trying to get back up and Jose grabs his back.  He sinks in the rear naked choke standing and gets the tap.

225 PRO TITLE Ras Hylton 3-1 (First Class MMA) vs Yorgan De Castro 2-0 (Regiment)

Yorgan with a hard leg kick.  Ras with a kick to the body.  They break  and Yorgan gets in 3 outside leg kicks.  Ras with some knees from the clinch.  Ras with another combo.  Yorgan comes forward with a combo of his own.  Yorgan with an overhand right that connects.  Yorgan gets in a leg kick then follows it up with a right that knocks Ras out cold.

Yorgan De Castro defeats Ras Hylton via KO at 4:05 in Round 1.

155 PRO TITLE Ryan Sanders 17-9 (Young’s MMA) vs Jacob Bohn 7-5 (Behring Jiu Jitsu NY)

Jacob goes high with a kick.  Jacob is on Ryan's back and Ryan slips out the back.  Jacob gets the back again and is in full mount.  He gets pushed back to half guard and gets in a punch.  Jacob is relentless and moves to full mount.  Ryan pushes him off and Jacob gets the double leg takedown.  Ryan gets back to his feet and Jacob gets him back to the mat.  He is in full mount and Ryan slips out the back.  Jacob keeps trying for a takedown and Ryan has the guillotine.  They roll and somehow Jacob gets out.  They stand and the round ends.

Bohn 10-9

Rd 2:  Ryan gets in a leg kick to the chest.  Jacob is looking for the single leg takedown.  He gets in a knee to the body.  They break and Ryan gets in a combo.  Jacob is going for a takedown again.  Ryan goes for a guillotine and they roll.  Ryan is on top and gets in a big elbow.  Jacob gives up his back and Ryan has the side.  Blood is flowing and Kevin stops the fight to have the doctor check and the fight is over.

Ryan Sanders defeats Jacob Bohn via doctor stoppage tko at 4:29 in Rd 2.

New England Fights returns on February 1st for NEF 37 in Bangor Maine.  New England Fights announced the first fight for NEF 37 and it will be Josh Harvey against Bill Jones.  It was an awesome night of fights as I think everyone is in agreement on that one.  I would say it was the best NEF show of the year.  I would also like to note that Club Aura has the best sound system of an mma show that I have ever been to.  Their bass is so crisp and clear and you can feel it.  A couple things I would like to note before I go and that is I agree with the stoppage on Jacob Bohn, the cut was huge and must have taken at least 14 stitches or so near the eye.  The other thing I would like to note is Zac Richard had a huge crowd at the sold out show.  Man it was loud in there when he won.  I hope you all enjoyed this write and please share on FB.  Have a happy holidays from us to you!
