Portland, Maine (July 19, 2023) – New England Fights (NEF) and Boston Boxing Promotions present “NEF 54: A Fight at the Opera” on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at Merrill Auditorium in Portland. A full pro boxing card will take place beginning at 5 pm immediately followed by a full MMA card. Earlier today, NEF announced the addition of an amateur MMA featherweight bout to the card. Undefeated prospects Danny Buteau (1-0) and William Lagasse (2-0) are scheduled to meet at a fight weight of 145 pounds.
William Lagasse is undefeated to date with back-to-back wins on “NEF 52” in May and “NEF 53” earlier this month. Neither opponent made it to the 30-second mark with Lagasse as he starched Connor Morrill in 20 seconds and then Joe Diaz in 17 seconds – both wins coming by way of knockout. Lagasse currently represents Team Alena.
“I want to thank Danny Buteau for taking this fight,” said Lagasse. “I can’t wait to take the walk to the cage for the third time. Danny is a very game opponent and to take this win will be huge for me. I’m coming September 2nd and I’m coming with bad intentions!”
Danny Buteau made his amateur debut at “NEF 52” last spring with a first-round submission win over Isaac Therrien. Prior to his foray into MMA, Buteau was an accomplished wrestler. He won four state titles while competing for Oak Hill High School in Wales, Maine. Later, while a sophomore at Husson University in Bangor, Maine, Buteau won an NCWA national title at 141-pounds. He currently trains at Recon in Westbrook, Maine.
“I’m just excited to be able to compete again, and keep climbing the ladder to the top,” said Buteau. “I hope William is ready for a dog fight, because it isn’t going to be anything like his first two!”
“NEF 54: A Fight at the Opera” takes place on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at Merrill Auditorium in Portland, Maine. A professional boxing card will be presented first by Boston Boxing Promotions immediately followed by an MMA card by New England Fights.
