PREMIER FC 23 LIVE REVIEW 6/10/2017

We arrived at Chez Josef and quickly found our seats at the media table.  Fight fans were pouring in and I hear they have just a few tickets left.  There are a total of 9 fights on the night and 3 of the fights will be professional ones.  Iggy is the head photographer and the host of the night is the one and only funny-man Marty Caproni.  The refs are John English and Gary Foreman.  I got a sweet spot at the cage next to Stephen Domenico and Warchild so if I miss some action blame those local loudmouths!  Please follow along as we recap the night.





HVY AM Nicholas Brown 0-4 vs. RJ Hayes (Team Jucao Cobleskill) 1-6

RJ gets the double leg takedown.  Nicholas is working his way back up and does.  RJ scoops him back up and slams him to the mat.  He moves to full mount and gets in a few ground and pound.  RJ taps to strikes but the ref didn't see it and the fight is still going on.  Nick's coach said, you don't quit Nick as the round comes to a close.

Rd 2:  RJ get the takedown again and is immediately into full mount.  RJ gets in a few more strikes and Nick taps.

165 AM Jason Showers (Xtreme Ambition) 1-3 vs. James Thomas 0-0

James catches a kick and takes down Jason.  Jason bounces right back up and they are swinging wildly away.  Jason has James's back briefly and James stands back up.  Jason has James up against the fence and he is working his strikes.  James slams Jason to the mat.  They roll and Jason is on top briefly.  They roll again and now James is on top as the round ends.

Showers 10-9

Rd 2:  James starts the round off with an outside leg kick.  Jason gets in a few strikes and tries to pull James to the mat.  James ends up on top and moves to full mount.  He gets in some ground and pound and gets the ref stoppage after about a minute.

145 AM Diego Lopes (Juniko) 1-0 vs. Arslan Otcheyev (FAA) 3-3-1

Arslan misses with a head kick and they go to the mat.  Diego grabs the neck and pulls guard.  Arslan pops his head out and is now on top in guard.  Arslan postures up and gets in a few strikes.  Arslan moves to the side.

Rd 2:  They clinch and Arslan bear hugs him to the mat.  He is in half guard and is looking to pass.  Diego turns and Arslan takes the back.  He works a rear naked choke for the tap.

155 AM Miguel Cuevas (Battlecrew) 2-0 vs. Harrison Adamo (Ultimate MMA) 2-0

They collide and fall to the mat.  Harrison has the side and Miguel stands back up.  Harrison tries for a double leg but can't get it.  They clinch and Harrison is on the outside.  Miguel gets in some solid punches as Harrison dives for a takedown and can't get it.  Miguel is looking for the takedown as the round ends.

Cuevas 10-9

Rd 2:  Harrison grabs the back and suplexes Miguel to the mat.  Miguel works his way up using the cage and they are back to the center.  They clinch and Miguel gets in a knee before the break.  Harrison gets the single leg takedown and is working the side.  Miguel gets the roll and is now in full mount!  Harrison gives up his back and sinks in the rear naked choke for the tap.

185 AM TITLE Costa Gemelas (FAA) 4-2 vs. Pat Casey (Team Link) 6-1

Both fighters are working their strikes.  Costa gets in a kick to the side.  Pat connects with an overhand right.  Costa connects with a front kick.  Both fighters are kicking and punching hard.  I can hear the snaps over the loud crowd.  Costa gets hit in the cup and goes back in after 30 seconds.  Costa goes high and Pat ducks under and gets in a combo to the body.

Casey 10-9

Rd 2:  Casey starts the round off with an outside leg kick.  He gets in another one and Costa takes him down.  They are right back up and fighting away.  These guys are swinging so fast it is hard to keep up.  Casey connects with a looping right that connects to the neck.  Pat backs Costa up with another combo.  Costa fires right back with a counter as the bell sounds.

Rd 3:  Casey connects with an outside leg kick and Costa fires one right back.  Casey with another combo.  Pat with another combo and Costa with a good counter to the neck.  Costa gets in an overhand right.  Man what a fight!!

Rd 4:  Pat gets the quick takedown and has the back for a second as Costa stands up.  Pat gets another takedown and they are there for about a minute.  Costa is firing back rights that connect.  Pat gets the takedown again.  Blood is pouring and Pat's hair is now red.  Doctor checks it out and fight resumes.  Pat gets another takedown and Costa works an armbar with a few seconds left.

Casey 10-9

Rd 5:  Ref has a pow wow and the fight begins.  Pat gets the takedown and Costa slips out the back and they are right back up.  Costa gets in a head kick as Pat gets the takedown.  They are exhausted and swinging away.  Pat gets another takedown and ends up in guard.

Pat Casey defeats Costa Gemelas via unanimous decision.  What a bloody war!  Pat is now the PFC 170 lb and 185 lb champ.









HVY AM TITLE Mike Leverette 4-1 (Garage MMA) vs. Ray Sherwood (Ultimate MMA) 1-0

Ray gets the double leg takedown and is in guard.  Ray postures up and gets in some ground and pound.  Mike gives up his back and Ray finishes him off with some more ground and pound.

Ray Sherwood defeats Mike Leverette via ref stoppage to strikes at 1:18 in Rd 1.





145 PRO Timothy Wheeler (Elite Plus MMA) 1-3 vs. Erick Santiago (Team Link) 0-0

Erick connects with right and Tim drops to the mat.  Erick finishes him off with some ground and pound.

Erick Santiago defeats Timothy via ref stoppage to strikes at 11 seconds in Round 1.  Not bad for a quick pro debut!





125 PRO Tammy Worrick (Xtreme Ambition) 0-1 vs. Lisa Blaine (Ultimate MMA) 0-0

Lisa clinches Tammy up against the cage.  Tammy reverses and Lisa reverses it back.  Lisa is working knees.  Final seconds of the rounds they start swinging.

Blaine 10-9

Rd 2:  Both fighters are working their strikes.  Lisa gets in a pair of kicks.  Tammy gets in a leg kick of her own.  Lisa connects with a combo that knocks Tammy out cold.

205 PRO Mike Diorio 0-0 (Elite Plus MMA) vs. Sean Evans (BST) 1-1

Sean is pressing Mike up against the cage.  Mike spins out and is pressing Sean up against the cage.  They separate and are in the center exchanging punches.  Mike is looking for the single leg but can't get it.   They are in the center again and Sean gets in a few rights.  Mike gets in a good combo.  Sean is trying for a guillotine but can't get the finish.  They are both exchanging punches.  Mike backs Sean up for a second and Sean fires right back with a combo.

Too close to call, I call it a draw

Rd 2:  Mike is clinching up against the cage and they break.  Sean is working his combos.  Sean is pressing Mike up against the cage.  He gets in some knees before the break.  Mike connects with a right.  Mike with a left that connects.  Mike connects and backs up Sean.  Inadvertent eye poke and Sean continues.  Mike with a nasty left.  Sean with a hard right that connects.

Another real close round, too close to call!

Rd 3:  Sean rushes in and Mike gets in  a left.  Mike backs Sean up with a combo.  Mike gets in another combo.  Sean is working his jab.  Man what a battle!  Sean with another jab.  Mike keeps rushing in and coming forward.  Sean with a nice left.  They are still going it in the last seconds of the final round!

Mike Diorio defeats Sean Evans via split decision.
