POLITIS AND GÜNTER TO SQUARE OFF FOR BANTAMWEIGHT TITLE IN PORTLAND

[NEF PRESS RELEASE]

New England Fights (NEF) returns with its next mixed-martial-arts (MMA) event, “NEF 45: Uprising,” on Friday, November 5, 2021, at Aura in Portland, Maine.  Earlier today, NEF announced the addition of an amateur bantamweight title bout to the fight card.  Teddy Politis (2-0) will take on Felipe Günter (3-0) for the vacant NEF Amateur Bantamweight Championship.

Undefeated Teddy Politis has proved himself to have a powerful submission game early in his career.  He made his amateur debut at “NEF 42” in February 2020 with an impressive first-round submission win over Kevin Lemay (0-1) via Kimura.  This past summer at “NEF 44,” Politis returned to the cage and submitted Tyler Parent (0-1) in the first round with an arm triangle choke.  Politis represents Evolution Athletix based in Saco, Maine.

“I’m super humbled that I am being chosen to fight for an NEF belt,” said Politis.  “I’m excited for a five-round fight and eager to showcase my abilities. I’m proud to represent my team and be the manifestation of all the time and energy my coaches have put into me.  Aura on November 5th is going to be insane and I’m looking forward to walking out in front of that crowd again.”

Like Politis, Felipe Günter has yet to taste defeat in the MMA cage.  He made his NEF amateur debut in November 2018 at “NEF 36” with a second-round submission of Schuyler Vaillancourt (1-2). Günter followed up that win with a unanimous decision victory over Hannon Sanford (0-2) at “NEF 42.”  Last month in Vermont, he re-matched Vaillancourt and again came away with a win by submission – this time in the first round.  Günter represents First Class MMA based in Brunswick, Maine.  Prior to competing in MMA, Günter wrestled for Mt. Ararat High School in Topsham, Maine.

“I'm excited to finally get that belt,” stated Günter.  “My wrestling coaches always believed I could become a champion and unfortunately because of my own self doubts and lack of discipline in my younger years, I was never able to acquire that state title. A few months ago one my wrestling coaches who was also one of my biggest mentors growing up passed away. I re-read some of the emails we exchanged and saw his encouraging words once again, which sparked something within me. I've been working hard on improving every aspect of my game during this pandemic and I can't wait to display that in the NEF cage this November. This one's for you coach Reese.”

“NEF 45: Uprising” takes place on Friday, November 5, 2021, at Aura in Portland, Maine.  Doors open at 6 pm with first fight at 7 pm.  Tickets are on sale now at www.Ticketmaster.com.
